History is all around...

By: Cache-meifucan Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Virtual

After checking the historic listings, I found out that my old high school was on the list. I'm back on Maui vacationing so I went to Baldwin High School and walked around the corridors for a while. Iao Valley

By: WhipLash511 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

We spent over half an hour looking for this one, although it might have been slightly off course after looking at the previous logs. But we had WAAS reception and it was telling us to look where there were hundreds of possible hiding spots. Oh well, maybe I'll try again before I leave to go back to California in a few days.

Iao Needle

By: fireproof94 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

3:55pm On vacation from California but used to live here so getting to the cache area was no problem. Once we were there, it took a while to find this one. My GPSr kept telling me the cache was on the wrong side of the stream but I knew better. Kept looking around because the hint pointed us to numerous possible hiding spots. Finally found it by randomly looking around. Took Tweedle TB, left digitalfish #1121 (http://www.lynnmurphy.com/geocaching/tracking/index.php for more info) and signature item. Signed log.

By: Buck8Point Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

This is me in front of my hometown's sign in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. I now live in San Jose, CA but called Maui my home for 27 years. My parent's home is about a mile away and I used to work a few blocks south of this sign.

By: SYamato Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

3:32pm Found this during a visit to Lahaina. On vacation from California but originally from Maui, as you can tell by my handle. Very busy spot when we were there, as passengers were boarding shuttles to the cruise ship offshore.

Time to find something Historic !

By: Night Crawlers (Confuzn & Saxy) Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Other

Iao Theater (added 1995 - Building - #94001622) 68 N. Market St., Wailuku Historic Significance: Event, Architecture/Engineering Architect, builder, or engineer: Walsh, Edward Architectural Style: Mission/Spanish Revival Area of Significance: Social History, Architecture Period of Significance: 1925-1949 Owner: Local Gov't Historic Function: Recreation And Culture Historic Sub-function: Theater Current Function: Recreation And Culture Current Sub-function: Theater I chose Iao Theater as my Historic Place because I am originally from Maui and have been to this theater and even performed with my high school band here. It was been recently refurbished and renovated and it looks much better. It is the home to local theater groups and on the weekends it can be filled to capacity with theater-goers. It is probably the most known building in old Wailuku town on the island of Maui.

Trail's End

By: TeamMoehrke Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

3:28pm When we got to the spot we found a parking space and started walking towards the cache. There were a lot of muggles around but I looked at my PDA with the cache page loaded on it and when I saw "virtual cache" I was pleased since we had just DNFed a couple further up the coast. I used to live on Maui but had never ventured this far down the coast before. Thanks for taking me there. An email with answers is on its way.

Grandma's idea

By: Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

1:34pm On vacation from California and decided to go geocaching since it was raining. Found this one after taking a trail through some thorny bushes (which you don't have to do). Left digitalfish #1046 (see http://www.lynnmurphy.com/geocaching/tracking/index.php for more info), took nothing, and signed log.

Turtle Town/Maluaka

By: weegawk Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Looked for this one for about ten minutes before giving up since muggles were setting up for a wedding. And it looks like the plant growth had been recently cut but not taken away so the cache might be covered pretty good under there.

Mountain View Station

By: Stacy & Jerry Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

4:30pm Parked on a side street and walked over to this one. The station was pretty empty and we found what we were looking for quickly. Now we need to find the way to the Moffett Park cache!

My Meridian

By: Wintertime Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

4:07pm Third time's the charm. After DNFing this twice, we came back to this one, armed with a few more hints. Using a stick didn't help so we just started trampling on the ivy. Hated to do it but a lot of the ivy seems to be dying anyway, or at least browning. My girlfriend finally felt something and there it was, nicely hidden. TNLNSL.

Nihonmachi

By: payakoi Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We've been to Japantown a bunch of times for various things, like the Matsuri festival and obon festival. We're both Japanese so we've also eaten at nearby restaurants, shopped at the stores and eaten a bunch of manju at Shuei-Do. We got all the information needed but looked for a while for the cache. Our GPSr didn't want to settle down so we were walking in circles. It was a fairly busy area during the lunch hours so we aborted our search and will try again soon.

San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail: End of the trail

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

2:50pm Walked down to this one from the parking lot at the Santa Clara Golf Club...about a 1.7 mile round trip walk. Got to the cache site, our GPSr told us it was on the other side of the creek so we went over the bridge. When we got to that side, our GPSr told us to go back to the other side. Went back to the other side and found it soon thereafter. TNLNSL.

Bridge to the Past

By: bullit and mickeychopchop Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

2:37pm Of all the caches we found today, this one, believe it or not, took us the longest to find. We walked down from the Santa Clara Golf Club so our GPSr had ample time to settle down. But when we got to the cache site, it had us walking all around. I finally found it after searching for over fifteen minutes. But this is a much easier find than I make it sound. Took digitalfish #1121, left micro sig item, signed log.

San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail: Great America

By: bullit and mickeychopchop Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

3:20pm After walking to the end of the trail, we turned around and headed for this one. Had to wait for a couple of joggers to pass before we searched a few places. Found quickly and signed the margin of the log sheet, since it's full. TNLNSL.

JPC #1 - Sea of Ivy

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

5:07pm Got to the cache site and based on the clue and logs, we knew we were in the correct location. It was getting dark already so we had to walk back to the car and get our flashlight. With some extra light, we saw the cache and being 5'7", I had to do a little jump to get the cache. Nice hide. TNLNSL.

Mountain View's Smallest Park?

By: jrb_net Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

4:39pm Yep, it's pretty small. I had read the hint before we got to the cache site so I had a pretty good idea where to look. Found it right where I thought it'd be. Had a seat and TNLNSL.

Secret Trailhead #9 - Vasona

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

4:58pm Parked near the cache but there were a lot of muggles around so we went searching for a couple of other caches and then walked back. Still more muggles so we went and found another cache. Walked back and there was a ranger locking up some gates so we had to wait him out to look for it. Found it soon thereafter since I had an idea of what to look for. TNLNSL.

Goose Meadow

By: jabberwocky and the little momeraths Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

4:51pm After DNFing this one a few months back because it wasn't there we found it today after searching for a few minutes. Not too many muggles around since it was getting dark. TNLNSL.

First Cache of Spring

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

4:21pm After finding Slippery When Wet, we walked down to this one and after searching for a while, we sat down on the bench and thought about the hint. I had an idea so I told my girlfriend what to look for and she found it a minute later. Sat on the bench and signed the log as many muggle were using the trail in the later afternoon. Great job WoW, once again! TNLNSL.

Slippery When Wet

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

4:07pm Parked near Secret Trailhead #9 and walked down to this one. I looked around for a few minutes as my girlfriend kept a look out for muggles. I still couldn't find it so she decided to help search. A few seconds later she had found it, in a place I had searched previously but not well enough. When I opened it I was happy to see Signal the Frog staring at me so I took him and left my signature item, signed log.

Ram Run

By: chepup Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

4:07pm Boy, was this a doozy. Back in Gilroy today so with some hints from the cache owner we tried this one again. We started on a trail behind the track and followed it until we got to the church. It picks up again near the parking lot and at one point we were less than 400 feet away from the cache. But there was a barbed wire fence and we didn't want to risk getting scratched or have our clothes torn. So we followed the trail further along until we were nearly .3 of a mile away from the cache. There's a trailhead at 36 degrees 58.634N, 121 degrees 34.414W where there's a set of steps over the fence. We followed the trail up and down a couple of hills and 1.45 miles from our start we got to the cache site. Our GPSr was telling us that the cache was in the middle of the upper field but looking at the hint, I knew where it must be. It took a few minutes to find it and we TN, left our sig item and signed log. I'm also adding my coordinates since it says we were 70 feet off. We decided to take the shortcut through the barbed wire fence and the walk back to the car was about .4 miles. If you take the "official" trail I'd say the terrain rating's at least a 2.5. If you use the shortcut through the barbed wire fence, it's probably a 1.5 or 2.

Please Donate Blood Cache

By: k2dave Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

I've given blood in the past but I've just given blood twice in the past month for a very important reason. My best friend's eight month old son just underwent open heart surgery and needed some blood donated for use during and after the surgery. I had the same blood type so of course I decided to donate. I first gave on November 11th and then again on December 3rd. I've logging December 3rd as the date of the "find" because it's the first day I met who I was donating my blood for. I'm happy to report the surgery went fine and he'll be released from the hospital soon. If you can donate, please do...it's easy, it doesn't hurt, and whoever gets your blood is very thankful.
