11:43am Last EC in Red Rock and another cool one because as soon as we saw the wash on both sides of the road, we knew knew we were in the right spot. Made the short walk up the wash to examine the boulders. Mahalo for taking us to Red Rock!

Ancient Dunes

10:55am While visiting Vegas for a few days, we knew we had to visit Red Rock. And what an impressive place it was! After a quick pit stop at the Visitor's Center, it was off to drive down the Loop Drive. The Ancient Dunes was our first stop and although it was quick hot, we managed to make the short walk to the coords and made our measurement. We also saw a couple of lizards sunning themselves nearby. Mahalo for the Earthcache!

Dips in Red Rock

11:47am We made the short walk to this one from the nearby Earthcache and was glad it was a short one, as it was hot today! Not sure what the hint relates too but we did manage to spot the cache's hiding spot from a ways away. Took the Ducky TB, LNSL.

3:12pm The last time we visited about two years ago, I'm pretty sure this wasn't here as we parked in an outdoor lot. The outlets were busy today so we had to circle a few times before finding a parking space. Found this cache after hitting a few stores and having a Strawberry Julius to cool ourselves. TNLNSL.

4:53pm This one took a while until I found something that referred to the hint. The problem is, it wasn't where we thought it was supposed to be. So we kept searching where we thought it should have been and finally found the cache. I got a small chuckle out of the cache and replaced it gently. Will email the cache owner about the hint. 5:21pm We parked up the street and walked over to the cache, first trying to go through the trees but only getting spiderwebs on us. We followed the road and got to the cache site. Took a couple of moments to spot the cache. When I opened it, I saw the Starburst geocoin and thought, hey, that's a cool coin to grab. But it wasn't the real thing, only a copy, so I left it there. 7:15pm We pulled up to the park and as we got out, a dogwalker and regular walker decided to detour through the park. So we slowly followed them until they left through the exit, or is it the other entrance. Anyway, it took a few minutes until we used the hint to narrow the spots down. And there it was, in the open. Jenn spotted it and we used teamwork to make the grab. We TNLNSL and used teamwork again to replace it.

5:49pm Nice little park, lots of muggles on the play equipment but none anywhere near the cache. The hint kind of threw us but Jenn spotted the cache. Took the two TB's, LNSL. BTW, the BikeDog geocoin and Green Jeep TB are not in there. They should be marked as missing so they won't show up in the cache's inventory anymore.

Franciscan Complex - Fossils and Ash

6:39pm A while back, we had checked out the Thornton State Beach location and didn't see how to get down to the Earthcache. So today, we drove to Fort Funston but after a day of walking the streets of downtown SF our legs were tired and we didn't think we could take over two miles of walking on sand. So back to the Thornton State Beach parking lot. I had checked out the trails down to the Old One C ache and the Earthcache so I knew where to start. So we started down to the trail, then got to the rope section of the descent. Not too bad, didn't really need the rope at all. Then off to find the Old One, then down the hill towards the beach. A second semi-steep descent was fine but when we got to the last semi-steep descent down to the beach, I had Jenn stop halfway down and wait for me while I went to go find the fossils and ash. I made the short walk down the beach and was amazed to see the fossils. I took a look up on the hill and saw the ash line also. Back to where Jenn was waiting and twenty minutes later, we were back in the car headed to Jamba Juice for some refreshment.

6:20pm We found the monarch habitat but there weren't any butterflies around. We started toward the final but we heard some rustling in the trees. We looked up and there was a man, just sitting there on a eucalyptus branch. We decided to go to the cache another way but was able to spot the fallen trees and make the grab. Took a stamp in my logbook, left my koi stamp in the cache logbook, signed log. Mahalo!
