Just One Thing

By: Cachin' Katie and Sandi Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I came here from the Augustin Bernal Park geocache. It was a short and steep hike to the cache with good trails most of the way. Took the mints (which had melted and were making a mess), and I left a miniature panda bear. Cache was well hidden, I was standing next to it when I noticed a bit of blue. Thanks.

Thanks so much, this was a fun cache all around. Coordinates and comment by other cachers were helpful too.

Found it. Cache is in good shape. Log book looks like it was wet at one time but it's dry now. Felt fortunate to look for this one at a time of year when it's found easily. Took the Eat Chikin T/B. Thanks.

I had gotten my cache reports mixed up and thought I was searching for Speckles. Thought my luck had run out, Pepper & Claire would not hide a cache in there. Left and found some other caches, and realized my mistake. Oh Fizzy hid it, well ok then! Found it after figuring out how to avoid the PO. Thanks.

Clemmys Mormorata, Western Pond Turtle, Lake Anza, Berkeley, California. While turtles have been logged before, this turtle is unusual because its the only species of freshwater turtle in California, its endangered, and because this particular one appeared to be quite large and is probably over 10 years old. I think they're kind of rare, in fact I'd never seen one before.

Man's Best Friend

By: Penny & Chaos Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

This is a statue in downtown San Jose, CA, of a boy, a pheasant, a dog and a monkey (sorry, it's not a great picture). The plaque has a Japanese fable, part of which I have copied below: As a young man, Momotaro was ready to fight for justice. With the blessing of his parents, he set out to Ogre Island to fight the wicked monsters that lived there. When he left home, his mother made some dumplings for Momotaro to take with him. He strapped the bag of dumplings to his belt and se t off bravely onwards. On the way to the Island, Momotaro befriended a dog, a monkey and a pheasant. Each of them promised to accompany him on his mission if Momotaro would share his dumplings with them. Momotaro gave each of them a dumpling and together they crossed the sea to confront the enemy . The four friends fought bravely and finally crushed their opponents. The lowly ogres promised never to be wicked again and returned all the treasures they had previously stolen from Momotaro's homeland.

SacreBlue!

By: Kaveh, Team Bench Leader Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 4.5 Container: Regular

Liked this cache. It's was a difficult one, but I liked it. I came in from the top because after studying the topo map it seemed easier, and in practice that appeared to be true. Saw 3 newborn calves today. I think I found a wildcat trap as well, it was a chainlink cage with a trap door, and it appeared to have been recently used. Next time I see a ranger I'll have to ask.

Kansas City A's

By: The Xeroids Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I like this kind of cache. There are several fire roads, social trails and cow trails in the vicinty of the cache, and I was within 120 feet of the zero point, but decided to backtrack around because there was an easier way. Took a SF Giants squished penny and left a miniature elephant (go A's!). Thanks.

Fading Ads

By: DRAGN Tamers Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

This is the Spark Stoves Barn in Castro Valley, CA. Its something of a landmark, and I've never seen anyone use it. The purple is still bright, especially after a rainstorm, and covers an ad underneath that reads 'as important as the brakes'. I forgot to put my GPS in the picture but I promise I was there. Thanks.

Nike - Last ditch air defense

By: Team Headrush Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

The location of SF-31, Lake Chabot, Castro Valley, CA, is very well documented on the web and the launcher and IFC sites were easy to find. I first drove to the SF-31 Launcher site (see reverse cache coordinates). The site is now the East Bay Regional Parks Police/Fire Headquarters. I parked my truck on a 40x40 foot cement slab which appears to have no other purpose than to cover something, perhaps the silo (see photo). I then drove to a trailhead and hiked about 1 mile on a paved road to the SF-31 IFC (N37 43.344, W122 7.052). On the return trip I realized that I could photograph the SF-31 Laucher site with SF-25 in the background. Thanks for the informative cache, I really had no idea these things existed other than what I had heard in high s chool years ago.

Smash a Penny

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Anyone who has visited my cache Heron Bay Coin Cache knows I am a fan of the smashed penny. (Did you know I once purchased someone's collection on Ebay, cost $7!). Anyway, I found a penny smasher during lunch break at Winchester Mystery House in San Jose (hint, there's more than one smasher!). I hadn't been there since I was a kid, one thing interesting is that entrance to the gift shop and the museums is completely free. Hours are 9 - 5, parking free, sometimes they stay open later, check http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/rates.html. This is a great way to document where the penny machines are. Thanks.

Did this cache with bthomas and vdbalamo. It had us driving around Santa Rosa, and the funny thing was that we had lunch quite close to the final stage, before we had found stage 2. This is the first multi-stage virtual cache I have found, and it was fun. Thanks.

The Bells of El Camino Real (locationless)

By: Parsa Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Found this bell guidepost while geocaching. Its at Cline Cellars Vineyard, 24737 Highway 121, Sonoma, CA. As the story goes, the site was the first camp of Father Altimira in his quest to establish the Sonoma Mission San Francisco Solano. So this bell is at the camp, not to be mistaken for the Mission (which was already logged by TeamMoehrke). Thanks!

Kate's Laguna Cache

By: Kate the Great Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

My GPS lost its mind at this cache, so I watched for geomuggles while the cache was found and replaced. In the end I had to take out the batteries and short the battery terminals to get the GPS working again. What a relief, because it was a 50+ cache day.

When the campus police showed up to check out the SUV (the only other vehicle there at 10pm), bthomas and I had gotten about 50 feet from the parking lot. He said 'just keep walking and don't look'. Somehow the campus police never saw us and sped off. After that finding the cache in the dark seemed easy! Thanks for the adventure!
