Water Works SouthBy: Summit Dweller (adopted by smillersmiller) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
First cache on a weekend visit to Des Moines. The clouds overhead were threatening, but held off until just the moment that we opened the cache. Didn't have any raingear with me, so tnlnsl very quickly.
Summer SolsticeBy: Signorelli Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Stopped by to see if I could take a TB on a trip, but as of April 26 there were no bug tags anywhere to be found...
Don't Fence Me InBy: The Plunketts Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Actually spied it yesterday evening, but with all the post-marathon activity down this way, it was obvious that I was not going to get it then. I returned early this morning to nab it and some coffee at a nearby, fairly ubiquitous java house. Not sure how long this one will last, but glad I found it -- TFTC!
Monterey Bay ViewBy: Ford's Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Was starting to have a really annoying day of largely DNF-caching, but the peace and tranquility (and view) in this neighborhood turned the last few hours of the day around for me. TNLNSL.
Walk the Plank! (A Wheelchair Accessible Cache)By: Just a Short Walk Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Did a pretty thorough search for this one, read the hint/spoiler, and still didn't come up with it. Some pruning in the area of the spoiler leads me to think this one is gonzo...
Historic Buildings of MontereyBy: The Plunketts Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
I really enjoyed the walk and the history at each waypoint. The poem at waypoint 3 was hilarious!! Great cammo, too. I'm waypointing a couple bugs through here, since I didn't hit anything large enough to leave them in this weekend...
g.SLC.R?T. Moving CacheBy: 26 Fe (Adopted by JeeperDad) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
[Okay, so I'm editing my previous log to today's find -- took a special trip this morning to find GMPR?T at the coordinates in Salinas near the Steinbeck Historical Center and headed back to the Peninsula. It can now be found at the waypoint listed above. It'll cost $7 for a cache-n-dash, but you can enjoy a scenic 1 mi. (from the closest trailhead) walk to it for free. Hint:] Joe almost knows, but it's the electrifying folk at the country club that tell.
The Bells of El Camino Real (locationless)By: Parsa Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
This is one of two bells very near an historic mission in the City of Monterey, on Fremont Ave near Church St. This is a main offshoot of the old El Camino Real that was forged in order to allow people to get to the original state capitol in Monterey. There are quite a few of these in these parts... I'll try to edit with more photos of the Plaque, etc. later (camera ran out of batteries). There is a history of this mission (this was the original site established in 1770) at www.carmelmission.org/history.htm.
The Itsy CacheBy: The Plunketts Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
Looked all around that bad boy, but couldn't come up with it... On May 9, came back to do a more thorough search with relatively few people around (restaurant and shop closed). The cache was nowhere to be found, and nothing but spiders and their houses in the holes and crannies that it might be in. I think this one's gone.
Panning for GoldBy: IWCOTTON Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
A nice walk to this virtual after work allowed me to get a great bread-bowl full of chowder for dinner! Thanks for the walk in today's very nice weather. Email is on its way.
Early Bird gets the Cache!By: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen
Wow -- what a great day to figure this one out! I spent more time than I might have here, enjoying the secret view, because just as I started poking around the sprinklers came on -- what a way to settle a type A back to something normal! I waited out the sprinklers, read the hint, and went back at it. No one around this evening to worry about, but I didn't have my swag bag with me so I T: travel bug (going on a long trip soon), LNSL.
Momma Cache's BabyBy: Frankenlurch Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
It was just too nice of a day in San Francisco to work until dark today! So, when the office was thinning out, I took my cue and went off in search of more downtown caches. I had never been to this little area before, and although the grassy areas were cordoned off with temporary fencing the cache was easily retrieved. Didn't have my swag bag with me, so I TNLN, but the TB jumped in my pack for an upcoming trip. Thanks Frankenlurch!
Indiana Jones and the Lost PondBy: Sir Francis Drake Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen
Email sent -- thanks for the views!
Happy TrailsBy: X-C Girl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
What a great forgotten location! GPSr was a little bouncy, but a solid hide among many dubious locations nearby allowed me to get this one. The place is really overgrown, and a whole new generation of pigeons is benefitting from the former horse quarters. I bothered quite a few of them, and spied 2 different nests with little birds hanging out. Their "parents" dive bombed me coming out the door to protect them... I'm glad to see, at least, that the city kids benefit from the polo grounds (soccer was just finishing up when I was there). Took lots of photos of the area, left a quarter (all I had with me, besides the camera).
Seize Caesar's Stash!By: sftriman Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Found this one later in the afternoon, in fact it was probably evening by most people's standards. I had stumbled across an "alternate" cache at the n-1 step to the real cache, left by someone in a hurry to stash something that is not GC.com approved, so was a little distracted and in a hurry to leave the area after CITO-ing it out -- so I used the hint. On hindsight, I probably didn't need to. The cache ziploc was still a bit damp, so I put the log/pen in its own ziploc that I had with me. Took the socks, that were also damp. Tried to leave items relatively impervious to wetness: a tire gauge, a golf ball and a patch. TFTC.
WPArt: Lucien's CacheBy: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
[This truly is an impressive display of art, and I was struck with the Rodgers-and-Hammersteinian tone (e.g. definitely an early '30s feel to it). Someday I'll make it upstairs ...] The required info: Mark Twain.
Crazy LinesBy: Frankenlurch Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
I needed a more obvious hint, as either my timing or my GPSr were way off on my last two tries. Signed both cache logs. Thanks Frankenlurch for the hints and the great after-work caching!
Whole Lot of Shakin'By: TeamMoehrke Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
Enjoyed my visit(s) to this hidden spot after work. I looks like a particularly nice spot to sit around and read on a sunny day. TFTC!
Skyline CacheBy: Just a Short Walk Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Nice day for a picnic at Jack's Peak today. Minimal PO and a lot of hiding spaces -- the perfect cache site in my opinion! Mi madre stayed behind at the trail to "supervise" because footing could be a little tricky for those not nimble on their feet. Took the broken exacto from the cache. Left toy doggie. No sign of the TB.
Cache De CanyonBy: Just a Short Walk Iron Chef Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
GPS was basically right on from the trail -- the last of the Jack's Peak caches we could hit on this Easter Sunday. Mi madre is starting to ask me if there's a cache we can go get every time I'm around now! This one was fine for her until about 200 feet, then I went out on my own. Found easily, although you have to be looking for it. Took CHOMP bandaid pack and a patch, left a SJ Sharks baseball cap.
The BayBy: Ford's Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
[So nice to have this kind of hide ]that isn't stuck in someplace in the middle of poison oak, you have to stick your hand underneath something, or otherwise crawl around. [Loved the view, although the road was busy and narrow -- a little dangerous to park and cache on. Lotsa room so I left the Travelling Friend TB and Godzilla soundtrack CD. T: CITO bag.]
Doc's Geo Cache VIIIBy: docshop Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Tried for this one today from the Skyline cache, but the GPSr was leading me off the trail and I didn't have jpp's coordinates with me, so I figured that we should have probably picked up a trail map on the way in to be sure. We'll try this one another on another weekend!
Old Stage TrailheadBy: The Plunketts Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
STF! I really appreciated the cache at the trailhead -- showed me where to park, start, and gave me a convenient point to return to after tackling the Paseo de Padre refurbishing! Loved the hide, but even at this early stage there is a little moisture in the cache. Contributed a smallish ziploc for the log, but its perhaps a bit too small... T: asparagus seeds, L: Mumm pin and Fitz O'Lucky TB. Attracted a lot of attention from some local inhabitants -- I'll post a photo soon!
Duck and CoverBy: Marky Joani Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
My first attempt at a locationless -- some of these take some serious research! Luckily, I had a run in with this one prior to my geocaching days that left a lasting impression... This siren is in the Sunset area of San Francisco at 18th Ave and Judah. I moved to this neighborhood a little over a year ago. One afternoon, when I really should have been at work, I had the beejeeezus scared out of me when this went off! I remember thinking that it had to be in the backyard, or at least on the same block, so I went out looking for it -- it was 3 full blocks away! As a kid in Sunnyvale, I remember Duck and Cover very well, but thought it was all about Earthquakes. Silly me.
Paseo de PadreBy: psyzygy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
A refreshing hike from the Prunedale side allowed me to catch another new cache in the area as well. Packed in a 7.62mm ammo box and extra water to swap out the to-be-retired tupperware. I was hoping to do a high-quality restock, but it turned out I needed a bigger ammo box, so I took a few more things than I normally do to make do with the version I had. T: Tupperware container, broken McToy, quarter, VHS tape, postcard of oakland coliseum. L: Ammo Box and water bottle. Swapped out the Travelling Friend TB with Brogan's TB (please help Brogans along -- they eventually want to get to Ontario, Canada!)
Along the De Anza Trail 1 - GilroyBy: Marky Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
On my way down to the "other" Bay Area, and was expecting something much different from the location I found myself at. There weren't many possible places, except the one to look in -- nice hide! Log is on the full side; I signed in the margin. T: Sand dollar, L: green dice.
San Francisco WaterfrontBy: Johnny Vegas Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Another after-work adventure that turned the DNF to a FTF! With the improved coords, this was a much nicer evening and a nice hide... TFTC.
San Francisco WaterfrontBy: Johnny Vegas Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
I spent quite a bit of time on this one after work this evening. Indeed, this is a time-limited cache, as the public walkway is only open from 6am to sunset+2hrs. Windows are everywhere with folks working both before and after-hours. The coords for both steps and the final location were at least 100 ft off. Step 1 and step 2 are in different locations, therefore a single set of coordinates is not going to be accurate. Regardless, the main coords for the first two steps was pointing 150 ft east into the bay. Found what I needed for the final location anyway, as I had been scouting this area for a cache placement of my own last month. The final coords pointed 100 ft west into the bay on the other side. The current hint doesn't really add much to the experience, maybe a description of the container as a second hint?
Harry's HideoutBy: Andrew and Ian Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
Found the new version of this cache and was first to sign new log. Met a muggle on the stairway and introduced her to geocaching after a more than a few minutes chatting. Had tried this one in early January, back when I only had a few finds under my belt and was still really "wet-behind-the-cache". Took the armor all wipe and left a packet of squash seeds.
Golden Gate CacheBy: Beckerbuns Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Grabbed this one on the way to the headlands -- great bike cache for those on their way to/from a grueling headlands ride! Cache is getting a little full for a micro, with a keychain taking up the bulk of space...
The Big ViewBy: Novato Larry Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Had a nice walk around the point, enjoyed the cache placement immensely! TFTC.
Secret Trailhead #6 - San FranciscoBy: Marky Joani Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro
[Turning around my DNF from a week or so ago. This time I was prepared -- with more appropriate clothing ] (gloves were a must for this one; and long pants, the heavy denim kind) [-- and was able to find it relatively easily. Not much room in the cache, so I swapped out the big pen for a skinnier pen, took toy snake and a quarter, left a Chuck E. Cheese token.] [ March 27: Spent quite a bit of time in what is likely the right location, but no luck finding the cache. Looks like some recent "gardening" was done in the area as well, so I thought I'd log my DNF just in case. Hopefully I can turn this one around soon.]
(Son of) GlenCacheBy: Dave Becker Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular
I have been to the park to play softball many times, and never went past the viewable portion of this great area! GPSr signal was spotty, but settled down eventually today. Found cache with hint very easily -- saw it walking up -- so I covered it a little better when I left. Cache quite full, so took larger stuffed doggie toy and left mini snake toy. Grabbed TB apparently left yesterday (was not logged yet, so I'll wait a bit before logging it) and contributed to poem.
Marin Headlands TwoBy: SpiderTracks, FrogFace SpiderCubs Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Virtual
A typically foggy/overcast day in the Western Bay Area, but breathtaking nonetheless. Thanks for getting us up to this point for the view!
Marin Headlands OneBy: SpiderTracks, FrogFace SpiderCubs Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual
Nice, easy way to start our cache-photo-walk in the Marin Headlands this morning! Weather cooperated for caching, but not photo-taking... Email is on its way. TFTC!
Gorilla's Double DBy: Novato Larry Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Nice find on the way to watch the lions feed. Signed back of the log, TFTC!
How Succulent!By: X-C Girl and Searoom Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
Was around here at noon and had no luck -- of course the GPSr was bouncing around, even when there wasn't much tree cover. Maybe I crossed paths too closely with deltaromeo5? Such a nice place deserves another visit to turn the DNF around.
Queche Sera Serra - SouthboundBy: PisoMojado Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
[Boy do I love driving 280!!! I had never stopped to see the view from here, and I'm glad I had some company with me in the car today when I did. This place is quite the silent social meeting place... Found the cache fairly easily] in fact, almost hit it with my head.[Took the biohazard keychain, left a breathstrips pack to honor those waiting around here today. TFTC!]
The Legend of Pirate CoveBy: Captain Freako Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
