CalTrain - Morgan Hill

By: bykenut Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I spent quite a bit of time looking for this one, well after the Mardi Gras celebration today. I had great signal, even zeroed out right in front of the place indicated by the hint, but didn't come up with the cache.

Nice Neighborhood Garden

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Easy find with the description today -- just had to displace a few snails. First of 2 of Walruz's caches this morning. Thanks!

Bridge View

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I had come by this one on my way home from work the same day (night) as Kablooey's log -- I chose a very long way to walk it then, making a long day even longer. I saw the area I thought it was supposed to be in, but was beat after work so I didn't spend enough time looking to bother with a DNF. I found it today at the same spot I looked in last time, but this time the cache was there, lying out in the open and forming a nice color contrast. Things were rather damp both inside and outside the cache. I signed the log and placed the cache back where I found it, but covered it with some available materials. Maybe moving it a few feet over to an area that isn't so prone to saturation might help that situation.

Good Reverberations

By: Anatra Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Swung by this one today, and from the items in #1 I knew what had to be done. Unfortunately, I saw a few different things that I could do it to and none of them looked exactly what I had pictured. So I relied on the hint so as not to disturb/upset anyone that was in the area (and there were several people closeby for this particular weekend holiday). Email is on its way, thanks for the cache!

...by any other name...

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

In the area for a dentist appointment and wanted to come and see the outcome of the construction on the south-western side. I'm glad there is at least one orchard -- even if for historical purposes -- preserved in Sunnyvale! No one around here mid-morning on a Tuesday, so I had free reign to search. TFTC!

Go With The Flow

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

I grew up very near here, even taking gymnastics, theater and dance classes as a kid, and it was neat to walk around the community center once again. I remember when the drought was in effect (78-81ish) and water didn't flow here at all. Now it's eerily blue coming up out of the fountains... I wonder if the dye hurts the ducks?

How Succulent!

By: X-C Girl and Searoom Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Turned around my earlier DNF with one of those "wow, the coords were sure off last time!" sort of hunts. I can't believe how off they were on my last visit -- and sending me to a place that had ample hiding spaces in a very sticky bush next to an item appropriate to the hint. Today went much more smoothly, and I was able to choose a path to the area that avoided tree cover, mostly. Found cache with no one around, but spent an interesting half hour waiting out someone on a nearby bench to put it back. TNLNSL. Thanks for a great Sunday afternoon outing. As stated before, no TB in the cache.

Athin's Revenge

By: kusanagi Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Made it to the mystery coords today, and it earned every portion of that 3 star difficulty without having to solve the puzzle! Patience, patience. In particular, there was one woman that decided to make a 1 hour phone call (I'm not kidding -- I timed it!!) right next to the cache site as I was looking to return it. Luckily I could find a few other things to do nearby. I can imagine better times to do this one than late on a Sunday afternoon, but that's when I found my self leaving work today... Thanks for bringing me here -- one of my favorite places without the added bonus of cache-hunting!

Nice Neighborhood Garden

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Hmmm. Bench appears to have been replaced with two plastic chairs... No rocks underneath. Sat on the steps for awhile and enjoyed poking at a huge bug that had been going about its business underneath a rock, though.

Secret Garden

By: misteracj Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Great use of an old alley! Ran into the cat lady today, who was happy at the prospect of having some food donated -- just leave it in a plastic bag by the station, she said. There were 3 cats there today, probably because they know when the lady comes around. The roses smelled wonderful, and I stopped my hunt for quite some time to get a close up photo of a beautiful spotted purple flower. Thanks for bringing me here!

Nanny Goat Hill

By: Dr. Zaius Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

The updated coords were right on today -- with clear skies and very little wind. Lots of people and dogs enjoying the weather at the top, though. I had a seat and waited for a break in the action to search. After searching about 4 locations within range, I found it. Now, if I had just started at the other end... Took magnet clip thing and travel bug, left a CD.

Creature Comforts

By: Loobpug Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Coords were right on! I enjoyed the hide, but there's a bit of a geo-trail leading up to the cache now, and I could see what I was after as I followed it. Tried to hide better than I found it. Container was pretty full, so I took a pez dispenser to make some more room. TFTC!

JUST WAITING FOR THE MAIL

By: Ca_Surveyor Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

Great bug cache, practically deserted around here for a Saturday morning! Dropped off my new bug in swap for another that might enjoy an upcoming trip to the midwest with me!

In Memory Of My Dumb Friends

By: purp Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Found on a Saturday morning with surprisingly few people around. The cache seemed unnecessarily exposed and there wasn't much in there as far as geocaching paperwork or trade items. I signed the sheet of paper in there and put back a little out of sight from where I found it. Thanks for bringing me here to see all the neat houses! TNLN.

Three Bridges

By: Muggle Finder Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Nice easy find on a Saturday morning with bikes whizzing by! Took mirror, which will come in handy for any future micro caches I might hunt, left a Susan B $.

Conservatory of Flowers

By: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Great evening for a walk among sprouting flower bushes! TFTC -- logging is getting a little messy with the extra papers...

Ex Libris: A LooneyTunes Puzzle Cache

By: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

I've been meaning to do this one for a few months now, largely because I knew from the description what was entailed and I love going to that type of place, particularly when they are as nice as this one! Found right where it should be, although there were several starting options. I was lucky and chose the correct one first! Thanks for a unique caching experience.

CityCache1_V2

By: Scott Hassan Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Funny, it was a small bush with leaves-of-three, each leaf in the shape of an oak tree leaf... WalruZ writes in the forums on April 29, 2004:
I didn't know from Poison Oak. (some people say I still don't). My arms were red up to the t-shirt sleeves.
[End snip from the poison oak forum]

I may never have had a bout with the stuff, but growing up on the peninsula and doing a lot of hiking in Big Basin and Felton as a kid, I was well-schooled with what it is and how to avoid it.

Twin Peaks

By: mariva Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Nice replant -- found on a windy evening with nary a soul around... Sat down with the cache on the Bay-facing slope to avoid the wind and had a great environment to ponder nature for awhile. Took the mocha token, left a package of batteries. Thanks!

It's a Tankless Cache but Somebody's Gotta Find It

By: TeamJiffy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Hit this one tonight after my twin peaks geo-binge after work. It was starting to get dark, and was already very windy, but there were still a couple groups of people out on the point taking photos, etc. I zeroed in on where the cache was, but used the hint before I did anything unnecessary that might attract attention. Turns out I didn't really need to read the hint. Thanks for showing me this hidden park!

CityCache1_V2

By: Scott Hassan Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

A tumultuous evening to go hunting for this one -- it was a great example of SF microclimates, and this cache was at the junction of the Western fog/wind and the Eastern sun. Part of me was worried about being blown off the hill on the way up and down, but my mind was quickly turned to cache-hunting and poison-oak avoiding as I neared. Luckily I've never really had a bad run in with the evil oak, because the cache appears to be sitting right on top of a nice fresh patch of it. I may regret retrieving this one within the next 2 weeks... Took cassette and TB, left new SimCity 2000/3-D Golf CDROM for PC.

Athin's Revenge

By: kusanagi Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Aw darnit! I just got around to solving it on Saturday (after I broke down, read the clue, and then had to google it a few times).

Higher Education

By: Woof! Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

[I got rockstar parking for this one -- largely because its a Sunday and I don't think the ticketing folks are at their usual "bunny" speed. While I was walking the campus, I realized that after being a native Bay Arean and then involved in the academic world for some 16 or 17 years, I had never been on the SFSU campus, even back in the day when friends of mine went there! Weird. Anyhow, I enjoyed the hide and the Etrex pionted right to it once I found the right path. Thanks, Woof!] velcro is hanging a little...

DUEL

By: spiney Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Nice area to visit with a new caching friend, cyan_blue. We milled around a bit, and finally decided to use our brains (okay, well only cyan_blue's was working for this one) to narrow down the search. Nice hide and great bit of history, but by my footsteps, someone didn't walk their full 10 paces!

Fort Funston Webcam

By: dgreno (with forman) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Hmmm, difficulty on this one may be more than 2... Okay, well maybe if we stopped shuffling around so much, and grew a foot or two between the 10 minute intervals. I think we stood on that path acting silly and scaring off the poor dog-walkers for at least 45 minutes. We must have looked like we had lost our minds (inside joke for those who know what we do for a living)! I still think we should have stood at the posted coordinates and just held the GPSrs up (but we couldn't be sure those would actually have made it in the photo either). My coords for where we stood are listed, and I'm the one in black in cyan_blue's photo.

The Bells of El Camino Real (locationless)

By: Parsa Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

After doing this locationless in Monterey county, I'm noticing ECR Bells everywhere as I drive around now! This bell is just on the Daly City side of the Colma-Daly City border. It was a little too dangerous to take a full-bell photo much closer than what I did, but I did get coordinates by stopping right next to it. This is on ECR in San Mateo county, and is sponsored by AAA.

Cache at Joe's

By: Woof! Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Enjoyed the drive-by, just after opening, with a very creative hide. Unfortunately we had to grab breakfast elsewhere, it looks like an interesting place to eat. TNLNSL, thanks!

WPArt: Victor's Cache

By: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Thanks for bringing me to this spot -- found what I was looking for, although I was there after hours. There are some very nice memorials nearby that deserve a read while you are here. TFTC!

City View

By: Novato Larry Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

[A native Bay Area person, and I don't think I've ever been up here -- at least in my adult memory! Easy hide -- didn't have to be too steathly] because everyone is pretty much looking the other direction! [TNLNSL, thanks!]

Battle of the Bulge

By: LooneyTunes Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Visited this afternoon after a particularly fulfilling softball game nearby, so I was more than game to hop fences (usually I'm not, particularly when the coords are pointing 120 feet away). TNLNSL -- thanks for the view!

ZOOM-ZOOM

By: Ford's Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I came by about a week ago, but I was in such a hurry that I didn't use the Force -- which is necessary for this hide unless you want to resort to decrypting the hint. I'm proud to say that I didn't touch the hint, and came back as a much calmer person today to find it! I didn't have anything small to trade, so TNLNSL.

Silver and Gold

By: pepperjacks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I was by here last weekend, but it was pretty dark in that area by then, and I didn't have a flashlight with me. I have this thing about putting my hand in places I can't see just a little of... Anyhow, I came back today and after milling about to confuse the lunchtime crowd until they were done staring at me, I walked right to it. Took the where's george to travel along, and left a silverish small carabiner. TFTC!

Courthouse Cache

By: The Plunketts Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Was in the area long after dark, so I thought I would give this one a shot. Had ok sat reception, but couldn't figure the hints out, and I didn't have a flashlight to do a thorough search. I'll come back later with the hopes that I will see another way to look without jumping any bushes or otherwise attract undue attention in the daytime!

Isaac J. Harvey

By: The Plunketts Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Nice hide, got this one just after dark and was a little wary of sticking my hand in places I couldn't see. Came up with it anyway, without any harm. Cute house.

Little and Red

By: The Plunketts Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I'd been by this cache on my way to some Old Stage Road caches in early April, but couldn't come up with it -- I thought it was me... Anyway, I was passing this way again and thought I'd check it out. Punched up the last 3 logs in Cachemate and voila! Replanted! I drove up to where I had been searching for stage 2 before and spotted it from the car. I think this cache has been discovered by some of the local inhabitants, and not just mice, since it was left a little more in view than a cacher might leave it and the lid wasn't on all the way. I took the mouse cat toy and left some Chuck E Cheese tokens and a pen (there wasn't one in the cache). Thanks for a great backroads adventure!

Sunset Rocks

By: SpiderCubs Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

A very windy day made the waves and rocks that much more beautiful, although it was tough to stay outside very long because of the flying sand. Some brave families were out trying to enjoy the tidepools, which made us very nervous since it looked like the wind would blow the little ones away! Email is on its way.

Waves and Change Too!

By: Just a Short Walk Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

The wind and waves made for an absolutely beautiful ocean view today, with some nasty sand blowing around too! Nobody seemed to want to get out of their cars, so this one took some patience and good body positioning to retrieve and replace. Took 1997 quarter and left a 1973 quarter. TFTC!

MBA

By: bthomas Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Nice easy find on a windy day. It was hours after aquarium closing time on a Saturday, so the throngs were a few blocks to the northeast at the restaurants. Finding a place to rest my feet after an afternoon of caching was no trouble at all.

Shady Cache #1483

By: Just a Short Walk Along for the Ride Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

A really nice windy evening for this one, just as the sun was setting over the Pacific. I didn't have anything appropriate to trade, so TNLNSL!

Gina's Grove

By: Jason HolliWould Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I don't know who Gina is, but she must like poison oak a lot more than I do. I looked in what I thought were the most appropriate places in the area -- that weren't covered in the evil weed -- although I did not travel far off trails (because of said evil weed). Its literally everywhere -- from choking off entire tree trunks/branches in an evil bushy ivy-like fashion, to spurting up through the ground in the most unconspicuous way. I'll probably try again another time, just because I dislike DNFs, but if it ain't in the poison oak-covered bushes and trees, I don't really know where else to look.

Love is in the air

By: Ford's Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

This was a great evening for this cache -- clear comfortable calm weather and relatively few people milling around the general cache area. I figured out within about 2 feet of where it was, but decided to use the hint so as not to risk the ankle-twisting I was on my way to... Didn't have my trade bag today, so TNLNSL. Cache is getting a little rusty, and the lid was sorta loose when I put it all back together -- it will probably last through another cycle of seasons (summer fog, winter rain) before needing replacement.

Secret Point #1

By: compass_bearing_north Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Virtual

Since I'm not much one for poetry, I left my camera in the car (unfortunately, since the purple iceplant is in full bloom at the moment), and I can only guestimate the bearings of items in #1, I'll have to list the wildlife we watched. We saw (of course) several seagulls; a group flying and two napping on a rock formation straight ahead. Two crows were harrassing the napping seagulls, which were paying them no attention. A little blackbird poked around in a patch of the purple iceplant just to our left, while its friends made beautiful music (if you're a blackbird) in the pokey bushes behind us. I think we saw a heron near a small sea lion out a ways, but there was an some discussion about whether the sea lion was really a big otter... Neat little area, with lots of hidden points to ponder the natural world around us! TFTC!

g.SLC.R?T. Moving Cache

By: 26 Fe (Adopted by JeeperDad) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Sent off an email to Chief Firedog to explain where it was -- it is definitely on metal, but you are right that there isn't much metal around there. If you want me to check on it, send me an email (I have two home areas, so don't let my profile location throw you off).

It's a Guy Thing

By: CacheClone Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

The nearby bike trail was pretty busy today, but they were zooming by too fast to notice us bushwacking through to this cache. Not too much of the 3-leaved nastiness around yet, but you can see it coming up! Brought a guy with me, who gets kind of bored easily, so didn't linger long with the cache contents. We didn't have too many guy things to trade in the swag bag anyway -- which bummed my guy out because there was a really cool mini screwdriver set and we had nothing even or up to trade for it. Ended up taking keychain from Des Moines area business, left a marble package and Speedy Horse TB.

Big Tree

By: Liger Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

It was a much nicer day to geocache than yesterday, so we started out with a walk to Big Tree and some nearby caches. This was a big tree, and a nice day to find it! Dropped off the party pumpkin TB, but otherwise TNLNSL. Thanks!

Sycamore Trail

By: pipesmoker Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Definitely a nice maze of trails to follow with the GPSr, we hit what might have been private property and balked a little, but the alternative method of getting to the cache appeared more thorny... Nice full ammo box, good hide, easy find. Tried to trade even, so took the CocaCola keychain penlight and left a keychain from Modesto, CA and a package of marbles. TFTC!

The Northview Cache

By: M M backpackers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Last cache of the day this afternoon, a short walk in from the parking lot. The 3-leaved Nasty is just starting to poke up out of the ground, so it was avoidable (but plentiful) on the way to the cache. Took some quarters, left a penlight and a sand dollar.

Sandpiper Cache

By: Nilwob Inc. Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Easy walk along the trail, only a couple of possible hiding places in the area, but it was a different type of hide from the other caches we hit today. TNLNSL -- TFTC!

Cherries Forever

By: RWTP Enterprises Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Close to trails, parking, and roadway. Spotted this mid-afternoon, walking up to the site from about 40 feet away. Tried to hide it better than we found it. Took dollar, left a lock and a pen.
