Raging WatersBy: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
LeChuck and I braved the raging waters to get this one -- although we ended up pushing our courage just a bit farther up the road. Lots of canines and their companions in Sunol Valley Regional Park, as the weather was spectacular for hiking here today! TFTC.
Acorn WoodpeckerBy: N2Books2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Nice to find something large in the park today, and so close to parking! This was the first of the day -- a beautiful day -- in our loop of Sunol Regional Park. TNLNSL, Thanks!
Burl IvesBy: Ron Streeter Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
Came from below and didn't spot it at first, then looked around for a bit at a higher elevation and managed to find it reasonably quickly. There were people everywhere on the trails in Sunol Regional Park today -- it was a beautiful day out there -- so I had to be very quiet as some hikers passed nearby. Thanks!
End of the (Bike) TrailBy: fizzymagic Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
The nearby gate to Ohlone wilderness, and the Equinox cache, was just too tempting after finding this cache. So off we went, up and around, against WalruZ' better judgement and LeChuck's protests. I went off-trail at about 500 feet away, and I probably could have reached it the hard way, only I had already crawled through enough poison oak for the day while doing W Rock Scramble. Thanks for the cache at what ended up being the furthest cache-point on our loop for the day!

Jurcachic ParkBy: Chuguy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
It was truly a beautiful day out in Sunol Regional Park today. WalruZ, LeChuck, and I did a healthy little loop around to grab some new caches and allow LeChuck and I to find some older ones too. Thanks for placing this one along the high road!
Cerro Este Pit StopBy: dandm Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
Lots of people out in Sunol Regional Park today, since the weather was spectacular and the water was running fast. WalruZ, LeChuck and I came from the trail along the ridge that ends here and stopped for a quick snack at the picnic table. We made a feeble attempt at timing our obvious searching between people coming to use the nearby facilities. WalruZ was looking in the right location, while I was not. Thanks!
"W" Tree Rock ScrambleBy: dandm Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small
WalruZ, LeChuck and I started this adventure sort of trepidaciously, not deciding whether to take the high road or the scramble. After a few hundred yards, we decided to put the FRS radios to use, and WalruZ went up the east bank, then crossed back over somehow to the west side, before we lost sight of him. LeChuck and I continued through a very enjoyable rock-hop, although I was wearing nice water-resistant footwear while LeChuck risked taking a wrong step in your run-of-the-mill athletic shoes. We went on this way until the GPSr pointed a ways off the creek at .19 miles, which is also where we spotted WalruZ, trudging along at about the same pace as we were just above. So up we went, to see what was going on there. That part wasn't too easy, but we made it. After a little rest, off we went again. Unfortunately, I managed to cut across the side of the slope into a really nasty area of poison oak. Now, I've never really reacted to the stuff, but I'm still pretty paranoid about hugging it with both arms and all. Since there really wasn't an option of going back, I continued on and managed to thread my way through spindly bushes back down to the creek area where I was rewarded with more spindly bushes. At this point, I was thinking that I'd really oughtta stayed with my initial idea of rock scrambling the whole way -- not that there weren't similar dangers lurking by the creekbed, just that the rocks made it easy to avoid that danger. I got to the cache site a full 5 or 10 minutes before both WalruZ and LeChuck, thanks to my cross-country-hillside-poison-oak adventure. Unfortunately, again, I had no clue what I was looking for. WalruZ was carrying the all-important Palm with the cache description loaded in it, so I just had to assume things. Being so far off-trail, I assumed incorrectly. That assumption took me right by the actual cache, up a steep dirt slope that looks to have slid recently, and into more poison oak near where a tree had fallen (no doubt due to the still-damp dirt slide that I crawled up). While I wa s doing really stupid things up there, and sliding down the dirt slide area in search of more poison oak to crawl through, WalruZ signalled that he had found the cache.
Ahhhh, good times. Thanks for the adventure!
Rock - No ScrambleBy: dandm Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
There were a ton of people and their dogs walking back on the fire road by the time we came by the cache area. I know I looked where WalruZ eventually found the cache, but I guess I just wasn't looking hard enough. TFTC!
As Seen From the Sky!By: Daniel Christina Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Neat area that I have never seen, from the sky or otherwise, before tonight! I was happy, after an evening of having Woof! find most of the stuff we were going for, to find this one myself. Of course, Woof! wasn't really looking cuz she had something else she needed to do and has already found this cache, but it was still nice to find something tonight! Didn't see the TB in the cache. TNLNSL, thanks!
Wandering around ChinatownBy: BKT Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
I thought I had my VPN all set and working, crunching out new and improved datasets (like we need more of those right now, with all the outstanding papers) while I went to find some caches that were "littering" my map of San Francisco. Needless to say, the minute I left the house the internet connection disappeared and I'm re-running the scripts after a nice evening of night-caching with Woof!. Interesting folks in the park on a Friday night, although Woof! and I looked pretty strange ourselves. TFTC!
Home of the GodsBy: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Ah, maneuvering around the City with Woof! tonight, and sure to not find anything first with her "mad skillz" goin' on. Well, this one was due to my obsession with my keychain alarm thing that seems to not work sometimes, and then work other times, and then drive me mad enough to go to the Jeep dealer and have them make a whole new one (not gratis, of course). So, I'm back there pounding on the little unlock button while Woof! is rushing up to the -- well, I couldn't see anything, so I don't know what it really was -- thingy and she was nice enough to let me know that she found it but let me find it myself also. Which was good. So I found it and wondered: How the heck did you get superglue on your lips doing that?!?!?
TFTC. [8D]

Okay, I really don't understand how I didn't see this one. Really, I don't. I'm baffled. Truly I am. Woof found it, I ain't gonna lie. I was flailing around (again) in another section of the area, positive that it was supposed to be there. It wasn't. Woof was nice enough to let me sign the log... Thanks!

Hey -- who approves this guy's caches ?? Midnight at the OasisBy: stonyagers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Last cache of our Palm Desert trip, as we needed to start driving back to the SF Bay Area. It was about 1 pm, and already 88 degrees. Since both WalruZ and I were in our caching best -- which includes long pants rather than shorts -- we decided that it would be best to hang out in the air conditioned car for a while. Really, Really Evil GeocacheBy: TEAM Nohoch Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen
There are two general methods one can use while geocaching: a patient scan of the area or a brute force physical search. I tend to start with the first, WalruZ with the second. On a cache like this, he's gotta be very lucky to get it before I do. [;)] 'Course, sometimes he does get lucky...

By this time on our walk back to the car from the Bear Creek series, WalruZ was complaining about his feet. It was nice to get of the bike path a bit and look at La Quinta from another view. Tweener OneBy: TEAM Nohoch Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
This was part of our roundabout way back to our Jeep, which we left parked at the Magnocache in the morning. I suppose we finished up the Bear Creek series and did part of the Oasis Cove area, and were just grabbing what was convenient now. We figure that we had maybe 30 minutes of daylight left to cache while we walked through this La Quinta neighborhood, so we sped up our searches and how we notated each cache just a bit. TFTC!

I decided to see what WalruZ was climbing so high for, which was probably a bad idea in retrospect. I ended up navigating across the hillside down and over to the cache, sitting down on a piece of dead ocotillo branch in the process. I don't think I can ever say that I've sat on a cactus before now... Anyway, the cache site was incredibly cool (once I got there), with views of La Quinta and beyond. Took a few photos and avoided looking down where my legs were dangling for the most part. Thanks!

The place was deserted on a holiday evening, so we enjoyed our stroll to the site from the parking area off a side street. Being one of those mature, sophisticated, city cachers I never took much glee in the aforementioned East Bay Hider antics that involved this type of thing. Of course that would ensure that this cache would turn out to be my #700. It took us some time to find it in the dusk, which turned to dark quite quickly. You wouldn't believe the noise even if I had a wav recorded and could play it back to you. I'm looking around -- on the trail -- when I see the friendly neighborhood docent strolling up the path. I raise my voice to try to get WalruZ to stop moving, come out into the open, or just do anything but attract her attention. Of course, he can't hear me with all the racket he's making. Luckily this must happen quite a bit out here, as she walked right by without a look at us. After peering in various places, I just sat down. This really should be a DNF for me, but WalruZ was kind enough to let my name go on the log. Thanks!

This was a nice introduction to the desert terrain that WalruZ and I would spend the day hiking through. We enjoyed the great coords, the hidden placement, and the cute kid Thanks!

There's being thorough, and then there's being Thorough. I had a nice view of whatever flailing WalruZ was doing before he finally signalled to me that I should find a place for the Jeep and get in on the act. After that, the hardest part was crossing the street without getting hit. Thanks.
Hello?...Is Anybody Home?By: TEAM Nohoch Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
After some searching, WalruZ and I were both saying that it really should be in a particular feature. I guess we just didn't search as thoroughly as we thought we had, because when I rechecked -- there it was! TFTC!

Mmm, all these ammo cans are spoiling me, methinks. We passed by another set of shorts and safari-hat-clad hikers on the way to this one, and I again wondered if I could somehow cut my warm-up pants into shorts. Unfortunately today, scissors are not something you find in caches. Thanks!
Pushawalla Power Path #3By: thBriGuy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
We continued on the hike, sporadically passing small groups of hikers in shorts and safari hats. This made me wonder whether I had thought enough about what hiking in January in Palm Desert entailed. I was wearing lined running pants and a cap, and WalruZ had forgotten to bring his cap. Oh well, onward!

It was nice to start gaining some elevation, after wandering around the arroyo floor (losing the trail often, I might add). For some reason I couldn't see this one right away, and couldn't figure out why I couldn't sense it in such a small area to move in... TFTC, and onward!

Well, I have spent a reasonable amount of time living in the desert, so I guess I can spot stuff on the landscape much easier than your average Northerner. Of course, I 'm not sure the High Desert (Chihuahuan) of New Mexico qualifies as the same as the Sonoran Desert, and I'm sure the ecotone areas of my former San Diego life don't count at all... TFTC.

The start of a be-a-u-ti-ful day of hiking in the desert. The hills were green, well for hills around here anyway. The water was cold, and the snakes were in hibernation. Thanks for the series!

Ah, debating the finer points of things that happened way before anyone was there to see them. Always a good way to pass the time hiking. And also a good way to distract your hiking companion from his little arrow. Thanks!

Waypoints make the trail, I always say... Well, not always, since I'm a map-hound by nature. it was strange to see so many trails in a landscape where trails seem to be everywhere. Very unlike the SF Bay Area, where the trails have to be maintained from all the growth! TFTC.
Pushawalla Power Path #7By: TEAM Nohoch Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
I really liked this spot, even though one had to be quite careful not to get impaled. It afforded some small amount of shade in a way, and we seemed to be clear of all the hikers wearing shorts and large-brimmed hats that obviously had more sense than we did. WalruZ did some trades here, which I then ended up carrying in my pack for the rest of the day [:p]. Thanks!

I had forgotten how well sound carries in the desert. It was Sunday, so I'm thinking some sort of celebration was going on in the Sky Valley area. A melodic male spanish voice could be heard almost the entire time we walked the ridge. TFTC!

Thanks so much for the series! We liked the change of pace for this one. Used a different feature of the area than we'd seen all day. A cacher once sent me the definition of this item, by way of a dig on my intelligence, and so every time I see one now I smile...

Out from under the palm clearing, the stream coursed its way down the bed, apparently cleaning out the decay from the palm stand. I was glad that we visited after so much rain, because the area had a really lively feel about it. I found this one pretty much out in the open, but it seems to have survived well that way. Thanks.

We used the hint to replace the cache, since we found it sitting naked-like on the side of the rocky face. If memory serves me correctly, the lid was a little chewed, so the culprit was probably just hungry... TFTC.
Pushawalla Power Path # 20By: Team Woodlmt Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Other
After crawling around in the wash, and old palm fronds, I enjoyed the chance at a view. Not that I mind crawling around much of anywhere for a cache... Here I could see the flowers that dot the ridge growth just starting to open up this afternoon, which was also nice. TFTC!
Pushawalla Power Path #15By: thBriGuy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small
Down, up, its all the same to me; one hurts the knees and the other strains the quads... it was neat to see the butterfly flit past us on its way to land on a piece of green grass popping out of the sand. WalruZ thought it might be a bit "lost". Aren't they supposed to be up in Pacific Grove right now?

Ah, the tune of an old 70s soft pop song plays over and over in my head. So much so that we had to do the cache of the same name as our last stop in the Palm Desert area! However, it was more like Noon At The Oasis when we came upon this cache. Thanks!

We're getting close enough to the trailhead (and the car) at this point that we can actually hear the conversations of different groups of hikers on the paths just below the ridge. Did I mention yet how fascinated I am at how well sound carries in the desert [;)]? Thanks for another smiley!
Pushawalla Power Path #25By: TEAM Nohoch Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Other
He sure acted like a geocacher -- staring at us staring at him, circling around a small little scrubby bush, staring back at us staring at him from the ridge... But, we didn't notice any new names in the earlier caches we did at the trailhead. What he was doing out in the desert circling around brush in the middle of the afternoon will have to remain a mystery to us. Another cache with a great ridge view. What a reward for making the trip!
LaQuinta Nano Cache 1By: thBriGuy Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
We had the park to ourselves tonight, which made looking for this cache much easier. I guess all the beer-drinking teenagers were at Joe Mann rather than here. Cache could use some maintenance, I find I need to replace this kind of container about every 4 months in the fog-belt of San Francisco... Thanks!

This was our lunchtime stop, as WalruZ noted. We had some difficulty finding this one, largely because the trees were doing weird things to the GPSr signal. Maybe its because I'm used to manicured and urbanified palms, but the fronds on these trees looked a little parched even with the swamp sitting around their bases. Hopefully the recent rains will perk them up soon. TFTC!

I was really starting to feel a sense of accomplishment by this point. It seemed that we had seen quite a bit of different territory from both above and below. The ridge was pleasantly windy this afternoon, which helped to cool us down given the lack of any cover up there. TFTC.

We were staying nearby during our trip to the Palm Desert caching mecca, and started off our trip to the outer power trails with this micro. WalruZ found it while I was examining other hiding spots. Lots of softball going on, with the players in shorts, as it was already fairly warm on the January morning. TFTC!

Tax HikeBy: WestwardHo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
I was kind of uncomfortable going in the area, not knowing if the gate was put there for a reason, but WalruZ was taking his time. I went back there having just read the description and once I scoped the area out I went to it. The mice really were creeping me out, as I had stuck my hand blindly somewhere dark to grab the cache, and then a couple of the little furry things scurried out to meet me from places nearby. I hope they weren't expecting anything from me, because I had a Willard experience about then and let WalruZ return the cache to its hiding spot... Picked up the Fire TB.

I get nervous crossing highways in the dark, but we did it anyway. I suppose I could have parked closer, but then I would risk the stopped car not being seen on the road in the dark. I must be some sort of urban pansy... Anyway, found quickly enough for my tastes. Took A Faster Cache Machine to fly away to other parts.

Dude, Where's My Car?By: TJLolo (Team Tree HugR) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Ah, Burger King, the dinner of geo-champions... We obviously stumbled upon a Black Widow nature preserve in the area, as I counted 3 of the red hourglasses in the search area. Lo and behold, one of the little sweeties was guarding the cache with due diligence. Luckily she didn't like being poked with a flashlight much and left. Thanks!

This was a really quick find on a calm Saturday morning. *Someone* had told me I was going to have trouble with it, and tried very hard to spoil it for me, but I found it right off. Swapped TBs. PS, used the alternate coords provided by workerofwood -- they rock!

I was expecting to have to wait out a guy with his kids, but they moved over to the other playground just as I was doing the loop back around to my car. After that, I was able to look around and use my geo-sense to come up with it relatively quickly. It helped me to keep the cache title/description in mind, and I also decrypted the hint so I knew what I was looking for. TFTC!

I was on another road trip this way, so I made a last minute decision to pull off I5 and finally put my DNF from a couple months ago to rest. co-FTF on this great hike with Woof! and WalruZ to a very cool, hidden area! We made a loop of it, by first going and doing some cache maintenance on Bridge to the Other Side and then using smaller trails (e.g. not Laurel Dell) to get from one to the other. Cache site was very interesting, and a great hide to boot. Dropped a TB, TFTC!

Dipsea StepsBy: BKT Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
I had wanted to do something for my #600. but was so busy with work lately that all I've been able to do is grab the random cache here and there. It seemed a shame to usher a new milestone in that way, so I arranged schedules to get to work just a little bit later today and have the chance to cache with Woof! on her one free day back from her internship in the Sierras (and also a milestone find for her), and introduce WalruZ to the finer points of caching in Marin on his birthday. What better way to do this than to pick the cache, a hard cache as it turns out, hidden by another of my favorite cachers -- BKT! T was actually working today, as I probably would have been had the evil Bucky on my shoulder not been screaming "go caching, go caching". It was fortunate that T was listening to her good BKT, though, as we came from above and really mis-estimated the steps from below. We had trudged all throug h what we thought was the cache area, until I made my first-ever "lifeline(Tm)" call to figure out if we were even in the right area (my excuse is the lack of satellites). We weren't. We got a little more of a hint, and even then searched yet another area before coming up with the cache. All in a ll, quite the way to start off the day! Thanks!

Oh yeah, its gone alright, I was by here with Woof! and WalruZ on the way to another cache, so stopped by to check on this one. Only found the velcro. Multiple DNFs over 2 months with no note or check from the owner, who is also not very active in Geocaching anymore, and I'll post the SBA so that another cache might be hidden in this great trailhead area.

Co-FTF, with WalruZ, at 7:35pm!! It was a dark and stormy night... Downright pouring while we were at the cache site, but since the traffic was easing up and we had already eaten, it just seemed like the thing to do. Heck, it wasn't even listed when I checked my nearest new before leaving work, so when I got home I took it as a "sign" to run out and try for a FTF. Sign from who, well, I'm not so sure after having all those devilish caches hidden recently. Several months ago I think I came by here, like Boulter, looking for a good way to get to Mom's Wild Ride. It was just a matter of memory to figure out how to get back. Thanks for the cache!

Touring the area with WalruZ after dropping off LeChuck sorta nearby. WalruZ, of course, opted to watch from afar as I went to search for this cache. This was a real test of whether my pulled quad muscle has fully healed, and finally it passed muster. I can go hiking with abandon now -- Palm Desert here we come!
