Secret Trailhead #13 - Pacifica

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

I had been here in the dark before, so I knew where I was going and what was probably going to have to be done. So, I pointed WalruZ to it. I think I'm getting used to this married thing... Thanks for the cache!

3D Shoot

By: Woof! and Squints Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Decided to leave the East Bay today for cooler climates, so this one was a pleasure to do. It was still pretty sunny around noon, but as we were driving down to the area we could see the fog rolling in from the ocean. I thought the range was pretty impressive, but WalruZ was a little worried about all the beer cans that he saw in the trash on the way to do the cache. I'm just hoping the consumption of beer occurs *after* people do the course rather than before! Thanks for the introduction to a very interesting area!

Still Standing

By: Woof! Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

For some reason, we had made it all day without me getting any ticks on my legs (in shorts today, because they are sooooo much more comfy). At this cache, I flicked off 4, count 'em, 4 little buggers from my shoes/calves/socks. We weren't even there that long -- they must be really hungry these days. Ugh! Anyhow, we enjoyed the historical plaque, and ended up admiring the actual site that was Still Standing from afar, as a tow truck was driving in just as we were making our way up the dirt road from the cache. Since LeChuck chose to stay in the car, we were sorta afraid we might lose him, so we booked on back to the Jeep before we had a situation to sort out. TFTC!

Can You Do the Cam Can?

By: TBD & D Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Lots of people at Half Moon Bay today, so the place was pretty busy. We had been hiking around on the coast to beat the heat on the other side of the mountains, and I had just noticed a tick crawling around on me, so I was sorta distracted for a bit. But after I took care of that problem (which jeeved me out for the rest of the day because like an idiot I chose to wear shorts today), I was able to concentrate on finding this cache. Looks like a really fun place to come for a group event! TFTC.

Ferrosaurus

By: digitalfish Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I zero'd out in the right area first, but couldn't find it for the life of me. I guess it was something about heading back over the hill to the heat had me out of my caching mojo then. WalruZ came around after taking a bunch of photos, and found it pretty quickly near where I had been pacing. I guess we end up making a pretty good team, averaging over caches... TFTC!

Coastside Clifftop Stroll

By: Coppernob for Mrs. and Ivor Screwloose Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I've been meaning to do this cache for about a year now, and today I was determined that we'd finally get up and go do it. After all, it was really hot on the other side of those mountains, and gas to half moon bay would cost just as much as plugging in the old window-seated air conditioner and sitting in front of it all day... This was a great walk, just enough so that I could feel like I was getting out and doing some hiking, but not enough that I started huffing and puffing around the bluff. Cache was in great shape, and the views with the light fog were very nice. TFTC.

Surfin' Safari

By: crawburr Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Great area, neat hidden parking, got to stare at some llamas and ostriches (who really didn't seem to care much), and saw a wonderful cache container. Thanks for bringing us around this way! Dropped a brand new ND & BB sig item I received at an event last night. TFTC!

Finnegan's Rainbow

By: PisoMojado Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Great vista -- Thanks for placing a cache here!

I Wish Lunch Could Last Forever

By: TheSunnyOaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Neat grove of trees nearby, although it appears that the local adolescents use it as a BMX course (and don't clean up their litter). The cache location, thankfully, was litter and BMX-free... Thanks for the cache!

Tsunami Rangers

By: vaccine Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Tooling around the coast today, avoiding the heat on the other side of the mountains. Neat structure -- which is apparently fairly new. A lady happened upon us "admiring" the nearby bridge and said that its installation upset the B & B across the street so much that they shut down (they thought it really blocked their views)! Now that's acting on principle, to the extreme... TFTC!

Beyond The End

By: TheSunnyOaks Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A nearby couple were taking a break from rollerblading, but they moved on pretty quickly. We played balance beam on what was left of the barn, and enjoyed the view of the well-used beach below. TFTC.

East of Eden

By: ac! Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Came back this morning, and lo and behold the softball games don't start very early on the weekend... After finding very easy parking, WalruZ, LeChuck and I located the general vicinity, but ended up resorting to the hint to finish off the cache. TFTC!

Hex If I Know

By: ac! Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Ahhhhh, I get it now -- and in the daytime it really is easier to get -- no security disrupting the hunt. TFTC!

HMB Hoosegow

By: digitalfish Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

There were 4 men across the street staring at a car with its hood open, and occasionally revving the engine. I don't think they were too concerned with us, but I felt self-conscious anyway so I speeded up the whole hunting process and surprised WalruZ, who was off in never-never land looking at the bars on the door. TFTC!

My Kind Of Town - Campbell

By: Thefogheads Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Glad it cooled down around here after the event, made going after a few last caches justifiable! TFTC -- interesting item there.

Campbell Park Troll

By: Jim and Jeanette Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Yep, took longer than it probably should have, but I appreciated the shade to search in! Man was it hot out today. There was a mister in the playground, and LeChuck and I availed ourselves of it for quite some time... TFTC!

Los Gatos Creek Trail - Flood Control

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Interesting structure, but man did it need some shade today -- either that or I really need to stop caching in shorts when its like 100 degrees out (leaning up against it was, um, eye-opening). After that, I sent WalruZ to spot, and LeChuck did the honors of retrieving. Thanks!

Los Gatos Creek Trail - Hamilton Ave

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I have no idea how WalruZ and I couldn't have found this one 7 or 8 months ago. I'm baffled. It was right where I was violating ... I guess I'll chalk it up to a bad nightcaching trip, because in the afternoon today it was all 'go'.

F.A.M.E. #2 - Los Gatos Creek Trail

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

No cats around when we went there, but a ton of food was left out for them, so there must be quite the herd somewhere (geese fly in a gaggle, dogs run in packs, so what is a group of cats?). No other cachers either (dunno what a pack of those are called, besides "event"), but it seemed we were right on the heels of zapboy for most of the day. I was starting to lose focus on caching, dreaming about getting back in the air conditioned car at this point --and we had only just started... TFTC.

3 Cup

By: Tonton-Ca Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Like many others it seems, I visited this cache prior to the nearby event tonight. Thanks for the smiley!

Happy Birthday Joani!

By: mfc61 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

WalruZ just walked right up to it, even though plenty of others had been looking. I hadn't even gotten into search mode yet! TFTC -- hope PacBell was cooler than it was in Campbell!

July Birthday Bash

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

This was a very unique place for a geocaching event, but quite appropo for a birthday party! Happy birthday to Joani, and I'm sure all the kids felt like it was their birthday too by the end of the evening... TFT Fun.

Romantic Rendezvous 1 ? NEM

By: hals99 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Mmmm, ToGo's -- now that's some date food... Was in the area with WalruZ and LeChuck for the nearby event, and grabbed some caches Campbell-style. TFTC.

Marsh View

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I enjoyed my visit to this area on a nice short after-work stroll. We had the path to ourselves, which was somewhat surprising. Thanks!

Marsh View Parking

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Nice little start to a nice little after-work walk (waddle). TFTC.

Sun Microsystems Geek Cache

By: DeadReckoner Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This path makes for a nice little walk, and an interesting view of the Bay (with the tide out). Thanks for bringing me here.

Triangle

By: Rocket Girl & DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

With WalruZ on this No-find. I've never really been fond of searching this type of place in the daylight, but unfortunately that's when we were in the area. My first no-find of the day.

Sunnyvale's Smallest Park?

By: katiecacher Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

It looked a lot different "back in the day". My brother used to ride his bike down here, where you could access a drainage ditch/creek-of-sorts, and he'd bring back all sorts of weird bugs and salamanders. Looks like you can't get down to the creek now, and it also looks like they've put some newer housing at the end of the road. Thanks for the hide -- I would never have had the occasion to visit here again to see "progress".

20th Century Crier

By: The Petoskey Stones Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I enjoyed coming back to this park on the way to my dentist's, which is almost next door to the park. More than a few years back I worked for Sunnyvale Parks and Rec, and one of my close friends was assigned to supervise this park's after school activities. She always seemed to have kids hanging around playing the board games later than I did, so I usually ended up there after closing my site. Its really a well-built place, with lots of neat places to walk (and play, if you're a kid). TFTC!

Circles & Squares,Light & Dark

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Came with WalruZ for this quickie with the chefs out on break before their evening rush. TFTC.

Hanging Out in Las Palmas

By: Rocket Girl and Duckey Lee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I swear those palm trees were only 3 feet tall!?!?! As a toddler, I used to play under them and be hidden entirely from my mom because of the palm fronds. TFTC.

Rock On

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I grew up in a house about a half block down the street, and I remember my friends and I playing around this particular building (for some unknown reason) on summer break from elementary school. That was long before the 7-11 across the street was there selling slurpees, or I'm sure I woulda been hanging out there instead on summer days! TFTC.

SHHH!

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

When they were constructing this facility, they basically closed off all access from this residential neighborhood to the nearby high school over the two year project, which really made the students that had to walk to school mad. I'm glad to see they provided a public walkway for those unfortunate enough not to have a car to drive around the corner with... TFTC.

I See Sick People

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We seemed to be there at the right time, so parking was quite convenient. TFTC.

Don't Go There To Get There

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The nearby establishments were pretty busy for a Monday afternoon... I always thought of Happy Hour as more of a Thursday-ish event. TFTC.

Somewhere in Sunnyvale

By: catomcat Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I can honestly say that during the four years I was interred at the nearby school, I never had the occasion to root around in this particular area. TFTC.

Hungering For A Cache

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The nearby pepper tree has grown to a quite impressive size. Thanks for bringing me back to one of the old high school, late night haunts (I didn't bother to go in and bug the waitresses for old times' sake). TFTC.

Sunnyvale Gold Rush

By: Kolrxing Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I enjoyed reading this little bit of Sunnyvale history. WalruZ had to explain just what was stamped, and why it would have caused so many environmental problems. Learn something new every day, I guess... TFTC.

Somewhere in Loehmann's Plaza

By: catomcat Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Was with WalruZ on an afternoon of caching around my dentist's office. We had a little sat trouble, but finally settled near the right spot. TFTC.

Cars and Carrots

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Again, not much had changed here since I used to regularly come to this shopping center, so no distractions from finding the cache for me. All in all, today's tour of Sunnyvale was fun for me, although WalruZ might be a little bit bored with all my "back-in-the-day" stories. After the quick find, off to dinner we headed, caching finished for the day. Thanks for the caches!

Mental Workout

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Ah the first RGnDL find of the day. The nearby pizza place used to be a lunchtime high school hangout of mine. TFTC.

Bottom's Up

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Well, that's not quite what happened, but thanks for the cache!

Mary Washington Cache

By: L-grl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I think this is one of the ones I found, probably because I have no recollection of what used to be here in place of the shopping center (which is definitely new since I've been by here), and so didn't waste any brainpower reminiscing about it. Driving down El Camino after the find, however, was another story. TFTC.

De Anza Park

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A few decades ago, this park was a happnin' place for the rogue pre-teens from the nearby Jr. High (I guess its now a middle school), and the site of a few garage band concerts courtesy of teens from the two nearest high schools. So, as you can imagine, I knew pretty much where we were going, but it took WalruZ to remain clear-headed enough to find the cache... Thanks!

Now That's Funny

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Here with WalruZ on a random caching trip in Sunnyvale after my dentist appointment. These stores all seem to change ownership/type every time I'm in the area. The gas station turned into a Blockbuster?

Whatawaste Plaza

By: boulter Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I guess I did everything then, but I found it pretty quickly. WalruZ just about had a cow when he saw what I was going to do myself, but I showed him that even a wide load (okay, I'm more wide if you look at me from the side than the front, so that's a long load I guess) can retrieve this cache. He wouldn't let me replace it though... TFTC.

Yet Another Walkway

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Thanks for the quick cache! I always wondered where in the heck Nimitz school was... Today I figured it out.

Happy Birthday JoeSpaz #7

By: joespaz Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I might not put money down on this one not being there, although WalruZ was with me and eventually started searching himself. My guess is its been taken by some needy canine.

Happy Birthday JoeSpaz #6

By: joespaz Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Add me to the list of people that would bet you 5 bucks it ain't there.

Happy Birthday JoeSpaz #5

By: joespaz Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Wouldn't have been able to get this one out of its hiding place if it weren't for WalruZ' persistence. I'm woefully low on tools in the truck right now, since I've cleared out the normal riff-raff I carry around to make room to move household items. Hopefully we put it back in a more accessible manner for others.

By: ac! Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I used to play softball at a complex just like this one. They sure pack in the games, until pretty late at night, apparently...

Turk Island Revisited

By: ac! Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

WalruZ and I found the cache not quite where it was obviously intended to be, so when we finished our business we put it back in the right spot. Its a veritable ant highway around there! We had an ant hitch a ride all the way to dinner at Fuddruckers later that evening...

Border Of Borders

By: ac! Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Yeah, well, at least I got us there... Parking was just a problem tonight, and here was no exception. Luckily, nobody was worried about the area just around the cache, and we could rest the car in a non-legal manner for the 10 seconds it took for WalruZ to come up with this one! TFTC.

Hex If I Know

By: ac! Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Man, that security guy was jonny-on-the-spot. Luckily the pair of us didn't look too terribly threatening. Another day, perhaps.

Omo i de

By: TeamMoehrke Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

After attending a nice little afternoon party nearby, WalruZ and I decided to take a walk in the park and do some caching in the area (we don't get up here all that often). We started this cache at about 4:30 on a pleasant Saturday afternoon, and had a nice stroll around. When we were done with all the waypoints in the park, off we went to get the two virtual finals. By the time we got to Omo i de's last waypoint, the gates of the cemetary were closed with hours listed from 8:30 to 4:30. I sure wish that we had known of this limitation before starting this cache, as I'm likely to lose the answers to the first three questions between now and the next function we attend in Vacaville. Oh well.

It Is... Outta Here!

I'm glad I had the WalruZ with me to help with retrieval! A very spirited softball game was going on, reminding me of my youthful days playing organized softball. Thanks for the cache!

Nice hide in a very trafficked park! We enjoyed our walking tour around the entire facility very much, guided by your two virts and this cache. Thanks!

By: Johnny Vegas and Julie Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

A full year later, I'm "up this way" again and poised to find this cache. Coords were jumping around, as before, but I'd already ruled out two potential places and it wasn't quite so busy at night as it was when I was here last time during the day. Found it in the second place I tried. TFTC.

Clang Clang - Vacaville History

By: TeamMoehrke Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Found today with WalruZ, email has been sent. They've really done a great job with this area, and the murals at the last stop were quite interesting -- well worth the stop. Thanks for the tour of downtown Vacaville.

Downtown Creekwalk

By: "R" Troop Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

We had originally come by this cache at the start of our walk in the park, but a few teenagers were spending some time at the site, and there was no way that 1) we thought we could outlast them and 2) they wouldn't see us poking around to retrieve the cache. As it was, we decided to look around, then spotted the cache, but did not want to compromise it by retrieving. We gave up and went to get the other caches in the park. As we were finishing up, we decided to run by and see if the kids had left. At that moment, they just started to walk away. What timing! We were then able to quickly retrieve the cache and do our thing. TFTC.

Horse Creek

By: CowTownClan Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

WalruZ made a nice spot on this one, I don't think I would have ever found it, as I was looking under an erroneous assumption of how the 35mm can would be hidden. Nice park. Thanks.

Fitting I should attempt this cache the day after *really* becoming an East Bay resident. We left the boxes where they sat and decided to spend the holiday caching rather than unpacking and organizing (or worse yet, cleaning up the SF place). It was pretty hot out around noon, not the best time on the 4th of July to be schlepping up hills in the East Bay, but this area of Las Trampas isn't so bad (until you lose the shade of the trees, that is -- I should have brought more water with me). Of course 5 or 6 months ago, this would have been an easy hike, too... Getting to that first thousand was a relatively easy prospect, except for maybe the last hundred or so, than I think getting to 2k is going to be [;)] -- heck, WalruZ is already outpacing me and I'm not even really big yet -- but I'm sure it's all worth it in the end. Thanks for placing the cache.

Hit this cache with WalruZ on a very toasty 4th of July holiday. TFTC.

Where's the Cashe?

Wow -- this is going to be one high-density area when they get done with it. Still nice to know that people can (theoretically) buy something to live in that's still in the Bay Area (as opposed to moving to Manteca and commuting to San Jose...). Enjoyed the park, as were a few other families on the 4th of July. TFTC.

Some of my earliest memories as a little kid, no more than 2 or 3, was going to Mitchell park in Palo Alto to feed the ducks. The act (or field trip) of feeding ducks is now engrained as the ultimate thing to do with toddlers. As I'm nearing the time where I might have one of these strange beings, I think I've now found the place where I'm going to take my little one to experience feeding the ducks on at least a weekly basis. Today was a great day to be out watching waterfowl. Small mommy ducks were exploring the lake with their fuzzy ducklings, no longer than perhaps 4 inches. Bigger, more agressive non-mommy ducks were cruising the perimeter looking for food. An army of geese sailed by the mom and ducklings in sin gle file, as if they were some sort of fowl police patrol of the lake.

After a few visits to the area, I can definitely say that I'm familiar with this lake. Stage 1 was relatively straightforward and I nabbed it on my first visit, but failed to find stage 2 then. After coming back on a weekday i nstead of a weekend, I was able to spot stage 2, but when I went to stage 3, there were a couple homeboys at the cache site fishing. On yet another day, on my way to work, I thought to come by and see if I could search, but didn't have the coords punched in and then ran out of time to cover the are a without coords... Today I was in the area again, and felt like seeing what I could do, so I revisited stage 2 to get the coords, and headed to the cache site, where some guy and his two toddlers were fishing. I left to go DNF something else, and when I came back the coast was clear. Found it pr etty quickly after that.

Thanks, went to re-look for this today in the daylight, as it showed active in the pocket query I ran on Wed/Thurs. Found hiding spot -- I'm sure of it, but thought I was going nuts because no cache was there.
