Tired of the Fremont Drive-by Micro's?

By: archaeor Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

3rd of 6 on a babyless caching day. I was needing to get out and just do some hiking without worrying about lugging the baby and her stuff around too. WalruZ was nice enough to spend the afternoon with Geo Baby, who is still recovering from her first daycare cold. I also haven't had much of an opportunity to do much in the way of exercize since going back to work. Today I chose the little loop of caches behind Ohlone College to see how the lungs and legs would fare. Had many close encounters of the Bovine Kind on the way to the cache, and if I could get paid for upclose photos of cows I would have a bundle from today's trek! Picked up a tick at the cache site, which surprised me as it seems fairly early on in the season for those guys to be jumpin' on so quickly. Left a TB, but otherwise TNLNSL, thanks!

Ohlone College 101

By: CDNinCA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

4th of 6 today in the Ohlone College area. I haven't had much of a chance to get out without the baby to do some real hiking, so today was a real treat. I was winding around to finish my loop behind Ohlone College, and this was just a short detour off the main drag back to the parking lot, on a marked trail even. Nice to not have to worry about snakes this time of year, or at this site. Thanks!

Mission District Mini

By: CALHUNTER Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

5th of 6 today on a baby-less and solo caching expedition around Ohlone College. I, too, was misled by my GPSr maps to the wrong side of the street, but things weren't all that busy today to make the quick run to the other side. Found cache quickly, as its basically in plain sight! Thanks!

Orisom Overlook

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

2nd of 6 today on an afternoon of baby-less caching. I had rounded the Peak Trail, and was happy to see an EBRPD trail marker at the junction showing me the way to Dry Creek Trail. Unfortunately, the cow gate was not only wire-hangared, but someone has the gall to stick a padlock around it. Since there was no sign, the trail map at the parking area had no indication that Dry Creek Trail was closed, and I knew that the rest of the loop I'd planned was open, I went ahead and jumped the gate. Someone should let the parks folks know that some idiot has padlocked the main trail juncture between the Ohlone College trails and Mission Peak regional preserve. Or, if it was the parks people, they need a sign of some sort saying that the Dry Creek Trail is closed (at the trailhead would be nice too!). I couldn't see any reason to have that closed, the trail is fine and accessible on its other side...

RED TAIL POWER

By: CALHUNTER Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

6th of 6 today on a solo, babyless caching expedition around the hills of Ohlone College, which I don't have much opportunity to do these days. WalruZ was kind enough to stay home with Geo Baby (who is recovering from her first daycare cold) to allow me to do some hiking. This cache is apparently the source of some ill will with the neighbors. I spent about a quarter of an hour explaining why I thought I had permission to go to the cache area, and even read the cache description for them. The neighbor had their own experience that suggests that the land owner has not granted permission (or has forgotten that he has). This person intends to call the police on anyone seen "tresspassing" to the cache site.

Perhaps this would be a good time of the year (with red tail baby season arriving) to reaffirm permission for geocachers to access this cache? It might als o be helpful if the land owner notified their homeowners association board of said permission so that those who follow after don't have an unpleasant experience with the neighbors or the police.

Another way up ? 1, Troll Haven

By: CTomGeo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

1st of 6 today on a baby-less, solo caching trip. I haven't been hiking much, but man is that a hill! When WalruZ instructed me on how to get to the trailhead, he said that "you end up taking the trail along the face of the hill", which was a bit misleading as to the elevation gain... Cache was well-hidden and seemed to be drying out a bit. Thanks!

The Coin Sig Item Share Swap Event

By: Kindergarten Teacher, image415, joescales Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

We'll have to see how juggling the daycare-work-commute thing plays out for the three of us by the end of March... At least one of us should be there, regardless.

PEZtacular view

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were in the baylands area today, since the place is now sick with caches. We could see this cache quite obviously from the path, so I made sure to rehide (in the same spot) so that wasn't the case. It was nice to see several PEZ dispensers in accordance with the cache theme, even though this is a fairly old cache. I guess PEZ has some favored standing with cachers so that they don't trade down... Someone should do a study on that. Anyhow, we didn't have any PEZ stuff, so I left a travelbug instead. Thanks!

The Dump

By: Joseph Ruff Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

My those hills are green. Must be some great fertilizer they put on that grass! it smelled pretty powerful today, but there were a lot of geese having their way with the area too. Cache is in pretty good shape for as old as it is. Thanks!

Going Postal

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I thought that this was a great area and a nice cache container to boot! It was also nice to finally have some grass to sit down on and take some real time with the cache contents. Thanks for the cache!

Charleston Slough

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Rounding the corner, still lots of folks venturing waaaaay out here for their nature fix. Thanks!

Weather Vane

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The nearby corporation parking lot seemed as good a place as any for Geo Baby to have her lunch. Conveniently enough, there was a cache nearby to keep WalruZ occupied. He was so enamored with the cache site, that we made a second trip out when GB was sated. Thanks!

Pinheads

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Thanks for another baylands cache! Dropped a Geo Baby magnet in there...

And Again

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I guess my arrow was straighter than WalruZ' arrow. Thanks. Now for the old loop back to the car...

Runners

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Lots of runners. Lots of walkers. Lots of bikers. Lots of birds. Lots of everyone out here this afternoon!

Almost Natural

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

If a cache can be spotted from a reasonable vantage point, I'm usually the one to do it. WalruZ had to get down and dirty for this one (which is his particular specialty). Thanks!

See Clearly

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I enjoyed this little cache. Dropped in some stuff from the baby's caching stash so that WalruZ could take the batteries, and I left a travelling geocoin. Thanks!

Diversity

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

There was definitely a diversity of people out on the trails here today. Luckily doing this as a family made stealth less of an issue than it might have been. Thanks!

Shoreline Trailhead

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Parking, check. Restroom, check. Muggles, oh yeah. Cloaking device, check -- what else would a stroller be needed for? [}:)]

SC Fire - Agnew Rivermark

By: nielsenc Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were nearby performing some cache maintenance, so we figured we'd pop on over. Given the density of the new developments nearby, I think this station should be twice as big!! We initially ended up in the Sun parking lot, but wouldn't you know a security truck made it's presence known almost right away, so we found alternate parking. Quick find, even for me. Thanks.

Come Again

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were having great luck for a Saturday afternoon with open seating areas, even with all the people walking around here today! Something about us with Geo Baby in a stroller coming at them must scare them off their perches and back onto the trails! Thanks for another one along the walkway.

Twister

By: Duckey Lee and Rocket Girl Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

On WalruZ' advice, I upgraded my GSAK this morning and ran into no end of problems with what got loaded in my devices. I had waypoints, but my Palm was basically useless with just the title, owner, and D/T. Not even cache type (let alone size) made it into the exported .gpx file that was loaded into cachemate. This is not the kind of cache to do blind. Which is definitely what I looked like for several minutes while searching. Finally, WalruZ yelled out a hint of the most generic kind. At least it narrowed down my focus to where I could finally find it! TFTC.

Duck View

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Didn't see many ducks, but it was late in the afternoon and they had probably all punched out and gone home for the day. Left a Geo Baby magnet in the cache. Thanks!

Salt Water Marsh

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Pretty quick find on the now-sparsely-populated trails. Thanks for the caches!

Fresh Water Marsh

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Nice to have the caches complement each other the way the plaques do! Thanks for the series along this part of the trail.

Ceara Cache!

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We figured that we had about an hour of daylight left when we were at this cache, so we were going to make a loop of it to get back to the car via the frontage road. At least GB was hanging out pretty peacefully at this point, since a couple caches back we were able to find a bench with a back and give her a late-mid-afternoon snack. Cache was in great shape; dropped a Geo Baby magnet inside. I bet Ceara is pretty darn big now, compared to this little one! TFTC.

Sandpipers

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

The family parked on the cache decided to move just as we strolled up. How fortuitous!

The 528 foot hole

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

Found a large-ish lizard while I was looking for this cache. I didn't know this was the appropriate habitat for a desert lizard. Weird. TFTC.

Little Shop of Horrors: Audry's Return!

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

You're assuming that on April 22nd, she'll still be fully under control. She'll double her current age by then...
