Northern CA Solar System Model: Ganymede

By: bthomas (Maintained by MotorBug) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Geo Baby and I were going to go for this one, but it seems the area is fenced off for construction. Maybe there's another pathway that we didn't explore...

Go Fly A Kite

By: stbk Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Geo Baby and I visited Shoreline park today on WoW's recommendation. So, I chose this place to park, seeing as it made a nice loop for the caches I had targeted with Geo Baby this morning. I drove up around 9, maybe a little before, and some guy had set a reapeater up very close to GZ -- so close that if I were to conduct a sear ch, I would probably be tripping over his guy wires. I figured that situation would probably be best avoided, so off we went on our loop stroll around the marshlands. When we returned two hours later, that guy was still sitting there with his repeater! He didn't seem to be conversing, but nonetheless he was quite entertained with whatever he was keyed into. Not one to be deterred easily, off we went to check out the kayaks, talk to MotorBug and WoW, and catch another couple of caches. We came back by on our way out, almost two hours later than when we had left the area, and that guy was STILL sitting there, listening and listening to his headphones. There was no way that me traipsing around his repeater with the baby on the hip wouldn't get his attention, so I just had to bag it. Another time, perhaps...

E.B.S.B #1

By: k5incali Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Came by to grab the "drive by" but I had Geo Baby in the car with me and didn't see any legal parking that would work for us. Maybe we'll be back at a different time of day...

Proposal Point

By: RodnSon Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Geo Baby and I visited this cache, and ended up spending more time than we normally do. It was a nice day and a nice shady area. Thanks!

Rengstorff R ätsel

By: noababoa Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

In the area with Geo Baby on WoW's recommendation today, and I really thought I wasn't going to be able to do this one with the stroller. I was zeroing out quite far away from where the cache ended up -- over water and definitely to one side, so I figured that I had to get far enough off the bridge that leaving the baby in the stroller there wouldn't be a good idea. A subsequent pass to see what was what and how far off the bridge I should go ended up flushing out a large possum rather than the cache. Then I ran into MotorBug: a big thank-you to MotorBug for helping out with Geo Baby and offering a "correction" on where the GPSr was pointing so that we could find this cache.

Burrowing Owls

By: caliseastar Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

WoW gave me a call this morning suggesting that I take the baby out for a stroll. It sounded like a splendid idea, although the WalruZ and LeChuck would not be able to join us. This was our first cache of the day. There was some cool stuff inside, so we swapped some swag! Thanks.

Stevens Creek Marsh

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Got an early morning call from WoW this morning, suggesting that I take the baby for a shoreline stroll (oh, and bring some good swag, too), so off we went. By the time we got to the cache site, though, Geo Baby was quite ravenous, so we took care of that first. Swapped unregistered coins and pins, left a GB sig item as well. TFTC!

Little Shop of Horrors: Audry's Return!

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Hoping to work on some tags for some bugs. I've got the laminated goal tags; anyone bringing a grommeter?

Little Shop of Horrors: Audry's Return!

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

We all had a good time, even though the baby was sort of overstimulated quickly! Had a great chat with Joani and Mrs. WoW, who is an amazing person to have all those geocacher-types descend on her house time-after-time! And where did the littlest WoW get that poodle suit!?!?!

Little Cache of Horrors III

By: Team Nazgul Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Heh, wouldncha know that the only two of these around would end up next to the Horror House!

WoW!

By: Nurse Dave Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

The wall was wreaking havoc with my GPSr, so WalruZ finally came up with it after some patience. Thanks!

Ultimate Battleship: Battleship in the Ivy

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Almost didn't have to slow down, even... Never played the game while it was going on, so this is my first Battleship cache. Thanks!

"An Irate Vet"

By: Frivlas and OneAngryPuppy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

WalruZ wanted to drive right through an area that we definitely didn't belong in, so I overruled him since I was driving. Took the long way around and found the right approach. Thanks for the quick stop before the event!

Lost in the Woods

By: Mystery Ink (adopted by Workerofwood) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

There was no stealth involved with this one, more like passing around of a log... Ain't group caching wonderful?!?!

Flash of Inspiration

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

WalruZ wanted to just get on to the event, but this was too conveniently near where we were driving to pass up! Some guy was sitting in his car nearby, smoking a cigar and reading, which seemed just odd, so we sat for a bit and threw out ideas of where it could be. TFTC!

Kiss Of The Oceans

By: image415 and joescales Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I had researched this site long ago for cache placement, then life got in the way. Having some history is an understatement! I had a bunch of links somewhere around here...

Little Shop of Horrors: Audry's Return!

By: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

I think we'll stop by. I'll keep Geo Baby strapped to my front so she doesn't get mixed up with the power-tool-enabled evil cache making. We don't need to be promoting that at this age...

East of the Bay, West of the Hills II

By: motogrrl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Wow, TeamAlamo must have ESP to know more than 18 months beforehand that you're gonna host an event in Berkeley! I think we'll be there, or make our best effort in that direction. Don't quite understand how everyone'll hide the caches that day and keep them all within the 528' guidelines tho...

Remember Nancy Boyd? Us either!

By: Andy and Robin(adopted by jellis50 & now sarg Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

A sign said that the Easter Egg hunt had moved someplace else due to rain, but it was still a nice walk in the park to this cache. We stopped to admire the nearby, but obviously unmaintained, fountain. Thanks!

Whooo's Wanda

By: Rundex Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Cache was in great shape given all the rains we've had. The trail we took to the site barely looked like a trail at all on the approach, since the grass is enjoying the extra moisture of this season. WalruZ and Geo Baby just about tripped over it, so we propped it where it seemed to go. TFTC.

Who's Helen?

By: SnoWake -n- Dingo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I guess ticks don't like rain so well. After the walk to and from this one, I was expecting to be a Carnival cruise ship for the little bloodsuckers. Not to mention that we were carrying "fresh meat" (albeit very loud fresh meat by the time we got to the cache site). The cache site smelled faintly of skunk, and so I stopped worrying so much about ticks, and started worrying about disturbing the rainy-season home of local wildlife. Then I felt the baby's face and hands, and that's about when I decided that WalruZ should be on skunk duty and I'd work on the core temp of the baby. At any rate, the cache was in great shape and therefore was a nice reward for all the worries of the trip. I'm not sure that Geo Baby would agree, though. She didn't stop complaining until I sang her to sleep well after the next cache in line! Ever try singing softly and hiking? It ain't easy...

A Little Help, Here?

By: SnoWake -n- Dingo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Hmmm, folks didn't seem to want us driving around there, so we hoofed it in. After walking in a circle or two, the GPSr settled on a spot and I went for it. Thanks!

A Fish Called...

By: SnoWake -n- Dingo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

[:D] [:D] Woo Hoo!!! [:D] [:D] #1500!! We probably bit off more than we could chew, proverbially-speaking, to do these three caches as a family for our milestones. First, there was the rain. Rain. Rain. Rain. Then I had to work part of one weekend, which pushed finding the milestone caches together out yet another weekend. Then, I was invited to a Sharks game on Saturday and I figured it looked like rain both days anyway, so I committed to going. Nevermind that Saturday was passable for hiking and today was less than stellar, weather-wise. Anyway, if we could find something nice that wasn't going to be too muddy and we could take umbrellas to protect the baby in the frontpack, I was game. This cache was suggested and off we went... Thanks for the adventure and the milestone!

Day at the Dump

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze (adopted by CaliSeaSta Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Actually, Geo Baby is kind of svelte for her age... No laundry, just a very well-hidden cache that just about bit me as I traversed the area thinking it had to be hidden in a slightly different manner! We had a great day at the dump, thanks to this cache and a few others nearby. TFTC!

Duck Dock Redux

By: Shores Scout Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

A very pleasant multi on a breezily pleasant day at the bay. Sorry to have missed all the other cachers, but sometimes thats the way it goes... TFTC!

Baylands Bridge

By: digitalfish Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I think those neighbors must always be having some sort of loud discussion or another... I did my normal bridge-search-style (that usually falls short of a find) and WalruZ did his normal bridge-search-style (that usually comes up with the cache). Bridges just really aren't my thing I guess. Thanks!

Duck!

By: digitalfish Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Rutty trails, flying golfballs, buzzing planes, bomb-dropping birds... Its a wonder they don't come and take Geo Baby with all the danger we put her in [;)] Ahhh, nature. Great location. Thanks for the cache!

I Lost My Marbles

By: DKAK Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Nice and breezy around here this weekend. We fortunately chose the right path to the cache, and had it in short order! Thanks!

By: dr_dolittle_rwc Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

All I can say is that I'm glad that I wasn't on stroller-duty at this point! Found cache in short order, left a Geo Baby sig item. Thanks!

Top Of Ralston

This was one of my nicest recent caching experiences, and just the thing to take the edge off a challenging day at work before navigating the homefront responsibilities. TFTC!

GeoBeads #10 - Star Light, Star Bright

By: zapboy with help from workerofwood Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I ended up wandering around a bit waiting for the GPSr to settle, but once it chose its corner I was in business. Thanks!

Birders

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I cut short a project I was working on at work to make sure that I could brave the traffic and get to the baylands with enough day to find the cache. I'm glad that this was my first stop, and also glad that we're on daylight savings time! Not too many people out this afternoon/evening so as long as I could remain patient with my searching I was golden... Thanks!

Eye Cue Test

By: Rogue Ramblers Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

When I was a kid and unemployed, I used to love these type of word puzzles, so I thought that this would be a slam-dunk. Instead a few ambiguities in the solutions resulted in 4 possible locations, 1 of which couldn't be true, so I got a push from the owner and went to search 2 others. This morning I found it at one of my potential locations, which was not necessarily as rewarding as the time spent solving. Still, its a find and I feel like I've completed the task I set out for myself. TFTC.

Gateway to Hillsborough

By: anotherone Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I lucked way out and found this one almost immediately after a quick survey of the area. It was literally in the first place I put my hands. That so rarely happens, I should probably go out and buy a lottery ticket... I found the area surprisingly quiet just post-rush hour given that it is so close to El Camino! TFTC .

Gone Fishing

By: geotap and skwerlie Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Interesting area, but didn't see any fisherman around... Thanks for the cache!

Found after having dinner nearby. Things were a little wet inside, but the log was okay. TFTC.

Eye Cue Test

By: Rogue Ramblers Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Brute forced between two possible locations. When I visited each, one fit the additional hint I was given and one didn't. So it should be straightforward, right? The coords I had put me 50 feet behind a locked and fenced area, and I'm just not able to climb those while I'm carrying Geo Baby, so I went home to regroup...

chess is the key...

By: howeler Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

On the way to dinner at that big mall-thingy they built in Milpitas. I thought this one was cute. Thanks!

5 Gallons O fun - TB Hotel

By: howeler Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Large

Imagine how it would be to DNF a 5 gallon bucket. That's all I could think about as I was circling the area and stomping the plants. Luckily my concentrics widened as I got more desperate to find it and I found it. WalruZ claims that cammo tape makes things invisible. I think I believe him now. Swapped bugs -- the shuttle wants to go back to FL, but over land not by air. TFTC.

Happy Birthday JoeSpaz #37

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Took a stroll by after grabbing some morning refreshment nearby. I was showing about 55 feet away when I found the cache, so I took some averaged coordinates to post here. TFTC!

By: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We had the wrong thinking caps on for this one. I finally spotted something that looked relatively out of place. Nice job!

Don Edwards Multi

By: Blanston12 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Geo Baby and I took a nice morning walk, since it seemed that no one else was interested in getting up and out of the house today. We ended up doing it backwards, as I needed to visit the interpretive center first, but had a good time. It turns out that Geo Baby doesn't mind strolling along in the rain, which was a good thing because we got rained on while we were at the most inopportune place on the trail. There were lots of birds out enjoying the showers and we even spotted a coyote trotting along the trail a bit ahead of us! Found final pretty easily, although I was a little uneasy about my parking space, took a CITO kit and left a coin.

Target Too

By: Rocket Girl and DuckeyLee Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I almost DNFd a 5 gallon bucket earlier in the day, and you all expect me to find one of these?!? Not my favorite type of cache container. At any rate, I tend to get my cache containers at this brand of store, in the kitchen and housewares section, so the Hermit will be happy... TFTC!

Off Target

By: Rocket Girl and Duckeylee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I had a really difficult time getting the coords to settle down with all the multipath in this area, and ended up searching a rather unpleasant enclave as a result. WalruZ kept saying "are you sure its over here, I remember it over there" (a place that was 280 feet away) and so finally I shoved the GPSr in his hand and told him to go walk around for a while. So he did. Then he comes back and says "yup, it ain't over there" and hands me the GPSr again. Turns out that we were each reading about 60-80 feet away when we found the cache. With the buildings in the area, my readings weren't all that stable and we didn't have time before shoving off to dinner plans to do a proper projection and obtain good coords. You might want to... Or not. TFTC.
