Wide Water View

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I managed to get on an earlier-than-normal train, so that left me just a sliver of caching time in the San Carlos area before getting in the bridge traffic to head home. This cache was the recipient of the "that's-so-close-I'm-certain-I-have-time-for-it" award. Luckily it didn't take too terribly long to find, although retrieving and replacing with stealth took perhaps longer than I probably should have stayed. Some little boys were enjoying the late afternoon in a raft-like boat, and made a great point of yelling "hi" to me while I was wandering around. Wonder why? Part of the attachment mechanism was compromised, but I made a valiant attempt to resecure things, which should do the trick for a while... TFTC.

Dolphin Encounter

By: Shores Scout Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I caught an earlier train than normal coming home, so I thought that I'd stop by this cache before getting into the traffic heading to the Dumbarton. I really enjoyed this little area of the park, and if Geo Baby were here she would have loved those swings! Found what I needed and I was off to the final pretty quickly. Thanks for the hunt!

Old Fishermans' Wharf

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Working off the old coords today, and we couldn't come up with it. Figured that we weren't going to turn over every piece of gravel in the parking lot, so went to spend our time elsewhere. Hopefully we'll get a chance at this one again when we're back in the area.

The Old Tracks

By: armyrotc1 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Quick find once we felt like we could trust the GPSr again. Thanks for bringing us to this area.

The Rock Garden

By: armyrotc1 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Looked for a while, thought I did a pretty good job, but couldn't come up with it. I usually don't DNF things this big, but I must be tired today or something...

A Crespi Hide

By: armyrotc1 Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

It should have been a quick find, but for some reason I couldn't see it... I waited out a few different patrons of the nearby building before being able to really go for it. Thanks for the hide!

Butterflies are Free

By: Pinky B Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Quick find today, although I managed to follow the arrow just a little too much and ended up checking every in-bounds hiding spot in the preserve... Met a deer having a nap nearby. Thanks.

Monterey Boardwalk

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Always a nice spot to come to, and not too many people out for a weekend. I like the new stairway, although I still had a bit of deja vu, as a couple years ago was here in almost the same exact spot for a different cache. Hope this one weathers the muggles better! Thanks!

Vertigo

By: hotshoe Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Decided to stop and grab this one on the way back from a nice weekend in Monterey, where we apparently followed the cache owner around on a loop hike in Ft. Ord... I was apprehensive at first about stopping to search for this one, but we managed a reasonable approach... TFTC!

Boom Box

By: Just a Short Walk Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Wow, this one's an oldie! We enjoyed the immediate area and found a very nice place to sit down and have some overdue lunch. Thanks!

Fort Ord Treasure Trove

By: jesus_hiding_place Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Once we got there, it was a quick spot. I was expecting an area entirely different, but that would do just fine. Thanks for the cache.

Fort Ord Bushes

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

WalruZ' first find of the day! Boy was he happy, since we had been caching for something like 3 hours already... TFTC.

Gopher Junction

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I was expecting a different sort of hide from the title, but we found the cache pretty quickly anyway. Thanks!

Green Tuft

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

One of the last caches of the day for us, glad to see this one after our long walk from boom box. We didn't seem to pick up a single tick today, although I was expecting to fight an army of them given the rains this winter and the weather out there! Thanks for the hike, maybe next time we'll have bikes to bring out...

The OMC Brown Stone TB Hostel

By: monkeynuts16 (maintained by WalruZ) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

A cache to start the day traipsing around the Fort. Thanks!

Buzz Buzz

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I was glad that I apparently had a new enough version of Mapsource to have most of the roads around here! We finally figured out the title after we found the cache, and then we jumped out of the way! TFTC.

Sand Lot Baseball

By: Irtheweasel Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Neat little area. Too bad the nearby fields can't be put to better use. TFTC!

Private without Rank: The Recruiting Station

By: C Major and C Minor Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Pulled on up to the station, did my duty, and off to the Basic Training cache it was! Thanks for the induction...

Private with Rank: Basic Combat Training

By: C Major and C Minor Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Large

Wow, that's some cache you got there... Thanks!

Lonley

By: Johnny Cache Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were having fun with this one because the signal was a bit jumpy under all that stuff. When we finally spotted it, did our thing, and came out of the jungle, a couple of the presidio police were cruising by. We did a wave, they waved back, and I guess we looked alright cuz they went on their way. Of course, there was that matter of them stopping to let our car pass later...

Giggles

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We seemed to be following around hotshoe most of the day. Had a little trouble coming up with this one, so we resorted to the hint. Thanks for the smiley!

"Flat" Bush

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

WalruZ was on a roll here... He found this one too. Thanks for helping round out this hike!

Manzanita Surprise

By: Koolrat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Had a nice little walk out in the Ord with WalruZ, and for the first part of the day I seemed to be finding everything. This one was no exception. TFTC!

Point of Light - Palo Alto Tower of Mystery

By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I had a bunch of time before the unevent today, and found myself near enough this one at an optimal time of day. After reading the cache description (something I rarely have with me anymore), this became an easy find! Thanks for the hunt!

Wizard Walnut Huller

By: rib Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Cool little area. I had it to myself for the search, but the GPSr wasn't cooperating and I was fixated on a certain nearby item for some (well, obvious) reason. Checked out the portion of the hint that made it into the notes portion of my GPSr, and figured it out. Thanks!

Hardware Alley Cache

By: Sharkz Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was going to be early, very early, to the coin unevent tonight, and I had to stop and take care of something for Geo Baby anyway, so I picked the nice shady area near this cache to stop! Thanks for the convenient and quick find!

Chainasaurus

By: GeoBrowns Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Neat little sculpture thing. Nice shady area to hunt in. Took a little bit of a search, but these things usually do. Never quite seen a logsheet inserted into the container like that... TFTC.

Bicycle Row

By: T Diddy & Sea Mama Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I'm apparently having a bad caching day today. I went out to move my car around lunchtime, and I was pretty close to the cache site so I went for it. I think I saw something of note, but the middle of the day wasn't the time to examine it... Besides, I'm supposed to be working (and doing some cache maintenance). I'll be back.

Electric Kiss

By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

Couldn't find it. Went to car to feed child. WalruZ looked and couldn't find it. So we left. I'll try to find it again after someone else has found it. I've not stuck my hands in that much nasty stuff in a long while...

Licau II

By: WalruZ (with props to Lil Devil) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

That's a very young, and very short-haired, Dread Pirate LeChuck hanging out with Smokey. And to think that photo really wasn't taken all that long ago... Today the Dread Pirate hisself, at almost a foot taller than in the cache photo, was trying his hand at conquering the world for an alien race on our TV. He had taken a walk with his dad the day before, and so opted to finish off the human race rather than get outside. Considering he's got finals to contend with next week, I guess he's entitled. It was too bad, though; this was a very nice walk today with the WalruZ and Geo Baby. Geo Baby was keen to get out of the house and do something and I thought I'd like to visit this sentimental cache that has been on the second page of my ne arest list for far too long. After throwing around a few different grandiose plans for the day, WalruZ decided that he'd like to make the trek and see what the trail looks like now. So, off we went.

I loved the parking area -- a hidden gem. Those willow trees are some of the best I've ever seen (w ithin a city limits, I suppose). The walk was a bit sunny, but breezy, although the wind didn't stop the sun from giving us a few burns here and there where our sunscreen application wasn't quite up to par. We saw a variety of waterfowl, some predatory birds, jackrabbits, and evidence of slightly larger mammals. We had some overdue conversations. We "sung" with the baby in the backpack until she fell asleep. We found the first three stages with relative ease. We took a few different routes during the last 500 feet, because the "trail" gets a little unclear there. But it's there. We found it on the way back out. The final spot was a bit surprising to me, but a very nice experience on a Sunday. Hard to find, so you've got to put some effort to it. On my visit, it was guarded by two ferocious-looking daddy long legs spiders (which are better than the kind of spider that was at the Electric Kiss site). I laughed when I saw the Fremont Claasens' entry dated in June, obviously Mom Claasen is itchin' for summertime... It felt like summer today. I felt like a kid with 3 months of lazing around ahead of me. We'll see if it works out that way, if not in reality, then in spirit.

Thanks for the cache.

Happy Birthday JoeSpaz #36

By: Team Capsaicin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

heh. greno's already gotten this one 7 times... wonder if he'll notice?

The Stop and Go,Go,Go Cache

By: Team Capsaicin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Ah yes, on scene about a minute or two after Kablooey. We both have essentially the same commute from that point, I had already logged the cache anyway, and Kablooey and I had the same idea of where it was going, so it went with him. I even managed to get to my train ontime!

ITSA #2A

By: JDUDE250 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Same commute path today, so I thought I'd try again. In fact, I could take an earlier train tonight, so that gave me some more time to search. It turns out I needed only another 10 minutes or so, then came up with it. TFTC!
