Civil war in California?

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

What better way to start this Halloween than to do a well-constructed cemetary cache? I had some trouble reading at stage 1 and then the information for stage 3 was less than readable for me, but I muddled through to find the nicely-wedged cache. Took the TB to travel on. A very nice and spooky area! Now I'd better get myself to work... Thanks!

Cute little park - was all but deserted on this fine Halloween morn. Thanks for the cache!

Pete's Bair Cache

By: ChrissySkyking + Blaze (adopted by CaliSeaSta Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Geo Baby and I found the container, but its top was off and some of the contents were strewn around. I put it all back together, but there was no log to be found. I went back to the car and contributed a small spiral notebook and pen, but could not find a spare stash note in the car to save my life, so it will have to do without one for now. Geo Baby wanted to play on the nearby playground, but signs indicated that we'd be tresspassing if we let her enjoy it. Geez. Thanks for the cache.

ERIN GO BRAUGH !

By: gumbyandeddy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Man I wish I had brought our trade items with us today, but then I didn't think we'd be doing all that much caching on the way to the birthday party we were headed to. I felt really watched while getting this cache, but every time I looked around I just saw people in the distance that couldn't possibly see what I was actually doing. They might have wondered what I was in that area for though... Oh well, thanks for the cache!

Y Palm Park

By: leafe65 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

I walked right to it, after WalruZ spent a fair amount of time going in circles around the hide site. Geo Baby loved the playground - - the nearby one is getting to be just her size. I worry that some bad weather or a hippopotamus or some other whirlwind organism might come by and bump the cache into muggledom, though... Seems a little precarious where I found it. Lots of fun stuff inside that Geo Baby wanted to have, but we didn't bring any trade items so she left empty handed. Thanks.

The D.P.C.

By: Bob Cat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Visited with the WalruZ and Geo Baby today, on the way to my cousin's birthday party. WalruZ beat me to the actual cache, but I wouldn't have been too far behind him... Thanks!

By: kibrecachers Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Boy, that WalruZ sure has some muscles on 'im! Thanks for the cache.

Happy Valentine's Day

By: gumbyandeddy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We were in the area this afternoon before going to my cousin's Dia De Las Meurtes/Birthday party nearby. Not too many people in the area today, but lots finishing up in the building nearby. WalruZ made the grab on this cache. Thanks!

NICE JOB! I'VE SEEN THIS SORT OF THING BEFORE, SO IT WASN'T TOO MUCH TIME BEFORE WE HAD THE LOG SIGNED. VERY NICE CHOICE OF CAMMO. THANKS FOR THE CACHE!

A great meet-up point to catch a ride with WoW and shadow101in order to hike in the Belmont OSP. Thanks!

By: homermayor Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Nice hide, although it does seem to be getting a bit fragile. I didn't need to worry so much about the patrons, but there was one park user I kept my eye on. thanks!

Beginner's Luck

By: PrincessIchi Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

You are right - this is a great cache for beginners. I traded an alien toy for the fortune teller fish, just to relive my trade-filled beginner days. I was going to trade a geocoin for the finnish geocoin, but I guess I missed it... Thanks!

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

A great reward at the end of the loop hike shadow101, workerofwood and I had this afternoon. This big cache was particularly satisfying after a nearby DNF search. Thanks!

Go Fish

By: PrincessIchi Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Fun, but just a little frustrating on both retrieval and returning. I guess 20 minutes isn't a bad duration to a "catch", though. Lots of nibbles in the meantime. I've done a couple caches like this before, although those were in much more confined spaces, so it was just a matter of being patient and not worrying about whether people were wondering why I was hanging out so long where I was... Thanks!

Hidden Canyon Hideaway

By: TimberToo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Our first stop in the OSP with shadow101 and WoW. We found the cache exposed, so I tried to hide it better with the nearby natural materials. Thanks!

Hastings Tot Lot

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I was having a bit of trouble with the GPSr readings, so it was a good thing that WoW's was on task! Thanks for the nice big cache.

My First Birthday

By: Geo Baby Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Please log the bugs and coins out of this cache that you have taken from the event, or dropped in the event for discoveries. Geo Baby is too young to deal with the pressure from TB and coin owners that have their items virtually stuck in this now-archived cache. All bugs and coins should be logged out, even if they're yours. Please don't warehouse them here, thanks.

Somewhere in Serra Park

By: catomcat Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I have visited the same dentist since I was about 7 years old, so every 6 months I get to pick a Sunnyvale/Cupertino cache near his office to hunt -- just in case I get there early, or have a little extra time between the appointment and being expected at work. Today the former applied and I quickly looked up the two newer caches in Serra Park. Hmmm, "Brink of Insanity", a 4/1 that has had much buzz about being impossible to find without a GBA-quorum of some sort, or a "Somewhere"... installation very near an active elementary school. Let me tell you, after seeing those choices, I had it in my mind to travel a little farther to get some lame lamppost-at-a-Starbucks with my free 20 minutes. I'm very glad that I didn't. This was a nice cache and not at all what I expected after finding one other "Somewhere"... and hearing about at least 2 others (at various schools that I've had affiliation with in the past).

The last cache I hunted in this very hiding area was back when Serra Ele mentary was still a full-time and full-grade school, with the openings to the classrooms right out into the grassy area near the cache. They've now added portable classrooms, whose backs face the cache area, and gated off the rest of it. This is a much nicer place for a cache hide (during a weekda y hunt) because of this.

I took a walk by Brink, just because I had that extra 5 minutes or so after hunting this cache, but decided I'd just as soon not make the tennis players anxious...

What some people will do for attention in their Homeowner's Association...

Where the Asphalt Ends, and the West Begins....

By: Uncle AL Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

We visited and spent some time at each of the listed coords. There was a kid's birthday party going on, so we were treated to a shootout show as well. We were sad to see that they were already shutting down portions of the place. More houses, and a shopping center. Go figure.

EBMUD-Alhambra Ave.

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I felt very strange hopping the fence, but I guess there weren't any signs saying not to... I wasn't having any luck and could hear the plaintive wails of my baby from the car, so I tagged out with WalruZ and let him have all the fun. I got to give the baby her bottle, though...

Another Frontage Road

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I think I'd probably call it "creative parking" rather than "good parking", but WalruZ seemed to pull off the good luck portion of the description so all was good. Thanks!

Century Park #2

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I figured I couldn't look any more sketchy than the other guy sitting with his back on the fence, so why not... There was some sort of altercation going on in the house on the other side of the fence, which made me nervous. I suppose they were too busy to notice any noise I might have been making, though. Geo Baby really enjoyed stopping at the playground nearby -- she insisted on staying a bit longer and practicing her walking there. TfTC!

Sign Me!

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I saw the biggest black widow spider while searching for this cache, easily the diameter of a quarter and about the height of 1/3 a film canister. The cache was safely away from its lair, but still, that was a big ol' spidey butt! Thanks for the stop and the brush with nature!

LAND ROVER (aka LR Bug Hotel)

By: NevadaTrophy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Nice little detour on our way to hit 580 in search of the Central Valley. It was pretty quiet here on a Sunday morning, but we were wondering if the resident across the way was looking at us find the cache. There was lots of activity on the airport runway, but of the 4 wheeled vehicle type, which had me wondering. The log is really just a bunch of strips of paper, but I couldn't find a nice ammo-can-appropriate memo pad in the back of the car. At least there's still room to sign...

Salas Park

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Quick find on a very nice October afternoon. The park seemed to be hosting a very large birthday party -- what fun! Thanks for the stop.

Cannery Row

By: JeepySr Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

As the driver today, I was keeping an eye out for an old cannery to turn in next to. Needless to say we overshot this one and had to come back at it... Luckily there was no one tailgating me so we could slow down enough to see the recommended parking spot. Thanks for the nice big cache!

Morning drink with a view

By: scrub2rn Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

This was our first stop on a babycaching version of a Central Valley numbers run. Geo Baby had not quite fallen asleep yet from her morning activities and I had had to settle for a McD's cup of coffee in order to get us moving out of Fremont faster. Still, it was nice to stop on our way through and find a nice big cache. The container looks a little worse for wear, but seemed to be keeping out the elements. Too bad the monkeys got smashed! And I thought we were dealing with a drink of a different nature...

End of the Road #12 -- Cora Post Road

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I was glad WalruZ came up with this one so quickly, because I wasn't sure if the nearest neighbor was in on this hide...

End of the Road #11 -- Morse Road

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We got to watch one guy do all the work in a bulldozer, with at least 3 other guys "supervising" him. Ain't that always the way!

End of the Road #44 - Alhambra Ave.

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were all done and pulling out when the homeowner came out to say hi. Boy it is a good thing he knows and approves of this cache! We found out several things about the area that we had been wondering about. Thanks for the hide.

End of the Road #43 -- Oak Lane

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Another cache that I hope the neighbors have been consulted about. We were there looking and looking and their garage full of luxury European vehicles was standing there wide open. If I were them I probably would have come on out to see what was up... Anyhow, I guess they were busy or know about the cache because we didn't have to deal with any of that sort of confrontation today. Both of us were zeroing out near a walnut tree, so that's what received the brunt of our attention. As we were getting ready to throw in the towel and leave, I decided to check one more thing out, since I hadn't looked over that area, and voila! there it was. Thanks!

End of the Road #42 - Oakwilde Ave.

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Another classic hide style that I can never seem to find. Only this time WalruZ had a bunch of trouble with it too! We persisted and it turned out to be on WalruZ' side of the search area anyway. TFTC!

End of the Road #48 - Amande Court

By: jerryw38 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We checked out the real estate flyer and then proceeded to look for the cache. My GPSr was feeling a bit wonky around here, so I was sort of wandering the court. I guess the doggie-soon-to-be-displaced was getting sort of suspicious and came out to let me know that. Funny thing to have a dog roaming the front yard and street like that, no human in sight! WalruZ eventually found this one, although I kissed my fair share of leaves looking...

Tracy Triangle #6

By: Book Bug Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We were just on the way from here to there and back to here today, so it was just one point of the 9-tipped triangle for us! This was an excellent spot for us to get some much-needed fuel before the Altamont pass. Thanks.

EBMUD #3

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

After WalruZ finished commenting about the butterfly plantings, he went straight into "I guess we coulda parked much closer". Yes, I suppose we could have, but then we wouldn't be doing the series properly, eh? Thanks...

EBMUD #2

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

WalruZ seemed a little sore that I hopped off to go retrieve this one after getting to do the last one, so I took over the stroller grips and he went to have a little fun. For the most part, we alternated for the rest of the series this way, but there were a few that we all came offroad to grab after the requisite 2 minutes of solo-looking time... Thanks!

EBMUD #7

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was fooled by the nearby red herring location, but WalruZ wasn't! Thanks.

EBMUD #6

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

WalruZ called me over to help, and so Geo Baby and I came to lend another set of eyes (well, technically 2 sets but Geo Baby doesn't have communication skills to go with those eyes so it doesn't really matter if she sees it or not). We looked and looked and checked a little out of EPE and couldn't come up with it. WalruZ was looking elsewhere and also not having any luck. Then he reads the hint and I had it within about 30 seconds. He couldn't figure out how that happened, but sometimes you just gotta go with it! Thanks.

EBMUD #5

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Yeah, yeah, WalruZ called it. Of course I was already headed for it. And it WAS my turn...

EBMUD #4

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I suppose it isn't bad to have helped out at one of WalruZ' turns. After all, at the last cache site (#3), I was sort of floundering around because I don't like being poked by certain types of bushes (I get allergic reactions to anything in the general juniper family). WalruZ and Geo Baby had both stepped in to help but couldn't see it even though they had been standing practically on top of it. I went to check their zero point and voila! For number 4, all I had to do is say "I can see it from here" and there it was... Thanks.

EBMUD #1

By: TeamTek Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was looking for a nice, stroller-friendly series of caches to get the family out to this weekend, and I saw this really nice and manageable series on the map. The rest was history (of our Sunday, to be exact). #1 was our first stop, and we found the bottom of it lying on the ground all lonely and stuff. We replaced it back where it belonged. Thanks for the reason to get out to the Central Valley!

Alameda Creek #3.1

By: Blanston12 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

We took a nice little walk today with TeamAlamo and Geo Baby to find this cache. For a weekend afternoon, there really wasn't all that much activity on the trail, which surprised me. Thanks for putting a new one out there for us to log after #3 went AWOL.

By: Geo Baby Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

We had a great time with the party and hope everyone else had a great time too! Geo Baby was in great shape all day long, and even managed to sneak in a couple naps during our day at the park. Thank you all for coming and sharing this day with our family!

Therapy Cache #2

By: Marky Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

WalruZ had an opportunity to attend the A's playoff game, so I rearranged some things at work and left early to pick up Geo Baby by daycare closing. It looked like we had about 45 minutes of light left (boo winter!) so I looked around on the trusty GPSr for a nice urban park we could stroll around (and swing) in. This one fit the bill, and wasn't too terribly far away. Found the surprisingly large cache surprisingly easily in this type of location, but its lasted this long so I suppose I should just lift my jaw off the floor... Thanks!

Es Effo Bug Hotel

By: bthomas Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

Wowza! They've really relandscaped this place since I last dropped by. I came by to drop the Chicken who wants to get out of California, and took two untagged bugs to fix 'em up! Cache was in good shape with lots 'o' bugs inside - all needing rides far away!

Darn, no bucket swings! Seems like a pretty close-knit neighborhood here, we got lots of strange looks this evening (and we had the stroller with us). Good luck!

Heads Up

By: Travieso Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

We found the bike racks, but the obvious answer as to the velo-parking gave a number that could not possibly be the cache area -- there just weren't enough rectangles. So we went with the next logical, but wrong, answer for that instruction, fudged the NNE direction a bit westward, and found the locals. Unfortunately, we found a slew of real live locals parked right next to the locals of interest, going in and out with large sheets of wood. They were quite interested in what we were doing skirting around their cars. We each took a pass or two at that area, but given the hiding medium presented to us, it was impossible to do a reasonable job with the scene-building going on in the driveway. Maybe next time.

You Can't Fish Here

On the way to a family get together nearby, so we thought we'd test out the ol' 4x2 Jeep! Good thing we didn't get ourselves stuck, or we'da had to wait for Nazgul to come along and pull us out. Thanks for the cache!

T in the Road

By: Diana, Jim and Bryan Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Geo Baby and I were out with WalruZ for a stroll and a little Teamwork. I found this cache while WalruZ was examining some other spots trying to brute force one of the Teamwork waypoints. Swapped a cassette tape for an unregistered geocoin. Nice to see such an old cache survive here. Thanks!

West Pond

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We set out to do the Baylands Teamwork challenge today, but WalruZ forgot his cell phone, so he had to hightail it with the baby to the waypoint at which I was patiently waiting (I had backtracked as well, so was expecting some delays). I didn't think I was going to get this cache today, as I was doing the East loop, but as it turned out (and to the detriment of WalruZ' foot and my knees), we did the whole shebang in one afternoon! By the time we were over this way (toward the very end of the afternoon), Geo Baby was pretty darn tired of sitting in her stroller and watching the world go by. I didn't blame her, so I got her out to practice some walking while Dad looked for the cache. Turns out we had to make a parenting switch, so that I could locate this one. Didn't see an Obsessed geocoin in there, but that's okay since I had already unloaded the coin I brought with us today. Thanks for the cache!

East Pond

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I found this cache after choosing the wrong spit of land to walk out to one of the first Baylands Teamwork waypoints, so I got to do it all by myself [8D] ! After looping back around to where the first BT waypoint was, I found it and left a voicemail message with the information WalruZ would need. I waited a while and when I figured that I could probably figure out where the other legs were on my own, I started moseying the proper way. After a little bit, the wind carried a voice, very faint, to me on the trail. I turned around to see WalruZ hanging over the stroller and knew that we shoulda brought the 2-way radios... After he caught up with me, we went back to this area so that WalruZ and Geo Baby could find this cache too (while I considered some other waypoint 2 hiding spots!). Thanks.

Baylands Teamwork

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I had a really good time doing this cache, and because of WalruZ' snafu, we all got to find all the other caches in the area. Now I'm motivated to figure out just exactly how much we did walk to get this cache, so I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to add up the distance on my track! Dropped a Geo Baby sig item. Thanks.

Lauren's Park

By: HotRod62 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I now understand all the controversy. Seems that the hint/hide has changed since our last time here? I was still looking for something black the size of a quarter on the ground until WalruZ had me read the page today... Now I'm just confused about my own memory, but at least I can take this off my DNF watchlist. thanks.
