Come Visit Quarry Lakes Part 3

By: davethis Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

By the time we got over to this area from the main part of the park where all the other newer caches were, the sun was descending pretty fast. We got to the hide site with some light left, but the hide structure blotted out any of that to the extent that it was pretty difficult to put up a good search without proper flashlights along. By the time we left the area, it was pretty much pitch black and our whole walk back to Isherwood was spent negotiating the use of the penlight with an overtired, hungry and bored 2 year old. I think maybe we bit off a little more than we could manage for the afternoon, so we'll have to come back better-prepared.

A Great View in Quarry Lakes

By: davethis Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I arrived on scene first and took a look around, then ceded the area to WalruZ to search. I don't know how I missed spotting it, but I did. WalruZ managed the find in under 30 seconds I think! The nearby drinking fountain was a big hit with Geo Baby. Thanks.

Come Visit Quarry Lakes Part 1

By: davethis Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Our second stop on a little jaunt out and back into Quarry Lakes. There were fewer people walking/biking by here than I would have expected for a pleasant late afternoon on a Sunday. It is nice to have this park so close to our abode. Sometimes I think we don't recreate close enough to home... Nice to have these caches to bring us out locally for an afternoon. Thanks.

Come Visit Quarry Lakes Part 2

By: davethis Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Our first cache of the afternoon at Quarry Lakes with the stroller. It took several minutes of searching for this, as our GPSrs were pointing to a likely entrance point for the search area, but not the best one. After reading the description out loud, we were able to focus just a bit more and come up with the find. Thanks for the cache.

Quarry Lakes: No Good Reason

By: TheAprilFools Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

So when we got to the cache site, I figured out another meaning for the cache title. If that's what you meant by the subtitle, then I agree -- what the heck is that doing there?!? Made it pretty easy to find the cache, though... Thanks.

Twin Trees in the Gully

By: Alamo Kid Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

After wandering all over the foothills of Shell Ridge open space this afternoon, I was starting to get a little tired by this point. Well, maybe I was starting to feel a little tired because I had Geo Baby strapped to my back from the last cache to this one. Who knows, she is getting a little heavy, but she just can't keep up on a group hike, so there you are... Anyhow, I saw the namesakes of the cache and felt much better about my tired legs and the progress we were making back to the cars! Hopefully this one stays in place and dry when the rains come. Thanks for the cache.

Trick or Treat

By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

This was a good adventure, although I totally get why it can't last in its current state. Armed with many instances of downloaded waypoints and a few sheets of paper in the group, we found some tricks, we found some treats, and all was good. Quite a nice area to hike in, and I'm absolutely sure that -- even with as much fun as all us humans had strategizing out the waypoints -- clover the dog had the best time of all! Thanks for the cache!

Trick or Treat - the Bonus

By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Large

Ahh, the first find of the day. There were quite a few more intrepid cachers on this trip than I had thought would come, so it made for a very leisurely and enjoyable group hike. Marivic's little ones turned out to be quite the little hikers! We almost passed up this particular waypoint in favor of continuing to another trail at one juncture, but then I thought it best to leave no stone unturned until our two boxes were found, so I sped off with Dowbiggin to do some reconnaisance, and the group ended up to following. WalruZ seemed to agree that this sort of jaunt would be very Alamo-like and, indeed, it was paydirt! Some trading was done and such and then we were on our way!

Octagon

By: mathgen Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

After a few quick run out (yeah, right) to some nearby caches off the main trail, the Intrepid Four rejoined two of my posse waiting for us at the secret site. Geo Baby did a little hiking out to meet us, no doubt trying to tell us that she already found the cache and we needn't bother. As we arrived, I felt like we needed a special handshake or something before we entered the cache area. As Dowbiggin wrote, it was all good to go! Thanks for the cache.

Walking the Plank at Franco Pond

By: Alamo Kid Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Cool little trailhead nearby, and our group spent more than a little time admiring the posted map after finding the cache on our way out of the park. Too bad they didn't have some trail maps for handout too. This cache will be another one to watch when the weather turns wet. Thanks for the cache.

Papa Cass

By: Kaveh of Team Bench Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I was glad that we ended up finding the approach that we did. Without the other half of the group's need to get back to their cars, I probably would have attempted an alternate access point and done a lot of unnecessary bushwhacking not to mention the potential for a little barbed wire limbo... We still chose the poorer of the remaining two options to get there -- our chosen path down from the cache site was a much more civilized walk! Thanks for the cache.

Book It

By: Nugunslinger Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I can say that there is a great reward at the end of this cache (in addition to the smiley and swag) -- what a fantastic view! I was sure that I could manage the up, at least moving at a slower pace than I normally would, but I wasn't really clear on how I was going to get down. My knees have never really been up to snuff since those old high school injuries... Anyhow, slow as she goes and easy does it and all that, and I was back with my fellow crazy cachers doing the barbed wire limbo. I'd say this could be another half star higher on Terrain, or even a full one if you've been out on the trail most of the day before hitting this one.

Playground Madness #6

By: Mom and I.; adopted by HanSohn Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

We approached the area expecting a swingset, or a teeter-totter, or at least a slide, but it was not to be... (just kidding). After doing Book It nearby, I was happy to see relatively little up involved in getting there and getting back to the main trail. Thanks for the cache!

Rosie's Coloring Cache

By: Rosie the Kitten & her Dad Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Time for an owner check.

Dead Duck

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I think I would have missed this trail if there hadn't been a cache marking it. I had a nice afternoon walk out to the caches in the area, and by the time I got to this cache it had turned into quite a little walk. Thanks for leading me here. Now, off to class!

Aw, Nuts!

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I was, again, in the area prior to an evening class nearby. I had never been to Baylands park before, and so I felt fine paying the entrance fee to check it out and get 5 or 6 caches. I had a pretty rough start, but eventually found my mojo and then found my way out to this nutty cache (after a false start or two ended in the wetlands area). Traded travellers. Thanks.

Baylands Grove

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

In the area again before an evening class, and so today was the day to hit Baylands Park. After a pretty rough start, I finally found my groove at this cache, and then proceeded to revisit most of the other caches I had trouble with earlier. I actually intellectualized this hide once I located the probable structure with my arrow, and it all worked smoothly. Except that I had to return to my car to get a pen... TFTC.

Baylands Bike & Bridge

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

This was one of the first caches I visited in the park today, and I ended up getting distracted and not finding it after a very brief search and then returning to the car. Luckily I had planned enough time before class tonight to recollect my mojo and revisit the cache after finding some others in the park. Thanks for the cache!

Displaced New Englander

By: Boulter (adopted by AlphaRomero) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

The posted coords weren't showing up close enough to where I was going to be this week, so I hadn't looked at the puzzle at all. Then, a little bird told me that I should take a look at it if I had some time last night, after I told him where I was headed for my pre-class caching. After having spent several years as a displaced Californian in New England, I didn't have much trouble finding the correct numbers. I did feel the need to check my work, though. You were right on about this: the Red Sox are still playing and TPTB were still taking a toll to find this cache. I left the Vermont TB in the cache, as I don't know whether the owner wants to pick it up or have it move on.

Happened to be driving by the area today and thought I'd stop on by. Thanks for the new cache in this very nice park, the playgrounds here are pretty impressive!

Nomex vs. Ramius

By: FlagMan Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Ooooh, is this like frog jump contests? Are we taking bets? I guess I gotta back Nomex, since he approves my caches up here... I'm scheduled to drive down to SD that day, so I'm going to try to make it (I'll probably be on the late side, since I've got counties to get on the way [:D]).

Park and (Trail) Ride

By: Modjo tREKkers Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The crowd of TeamAlamo, Donvsop, DavidT21 & Fisherwoman and I all piled out of the car to DNF this cache. Yes, all 5 of us were there looking. It ain't there. Prove me wrong. Owner check, please.

Do you want to go down and rest for awhile?

By: WalruZ, BuckyD & Geo Baby Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I returned this morning to this cache and signed the log a second time (I was there at placement). Unlike at placement, today the forest was all wet, and when the wind went through the leaves of the trees it was akin to hiking through a rainforest. The squaking of a bird would resonate through the trees at periodic intervals after the breeze subsided. DonVSOP did the honors of location and retrieval, and the 4 of us were on our way down to the next cache. Added some swag. Thanks sweetie!

Arana Gulch

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Four of us spent a really long time milling around and looking for this cache. We were starting to get a little weird about it, when Don and I snapped our heads over to the hide location almost at the same time. Could it be? Really? Don reached over and, yes it was! Great cache construction! Most impressive cache construction of the day, even. Then it was on to dinner for us. Thanks for the cache.

Tales of Odysseus: The Trojan Horse

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We were mistakenly thinking that this was a trailhead cache, so the 5 of us piled out, aching feet and all, and proceeded to navigate our way through the plants in order to find this cache. I think I'll be returning with the family to do this as a series someday, but at least I know now where we're to start! Forgot to note the clue, but that's the way things go sometimes... Nice little beach below! Thanks.

Berry Creek Falls

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

A long long time ago, in an October past, I found the original Greyt Berry Falls cache that resided here, so I knew what wonderous views awaited us at the site. After lots of down down down from, well, Big Hihney really, it seemed sort of sacrelige to go up, but up we went. We passed the viewing platform, which was occupied by some backpackers enjoying the scenery and an aromatic illegal recreational pasttime. The forest was pretty wet today, and so the falls were running full-speed making for a beautiful scene (and sound). We considered continuing up to Silver Falls, but not all of our party wanted to do that, so back to the main drag for us! Sometime, maybe this spring after Geo Baby is out of diapers, I'd like to hit the Sunset trail out from HQ to the trail camp just beyond Silver Falls with a backpack on...

Davenport Landing

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Busy afternoon at the beach today! The surfers were out in full force, and even a few intrepid souls in regular bathing suits. Brrrrr! Some guy was up at the parking lot, chatting away on his phone. Alamo and Donvsop were concentrating on a less-nice structure for a cache, while I found it a short distance away in a cute little spot -- very Joe-Spaz of you! Thanks for the cache.

The EEEEWWWW Lagoon

By: The Saints Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were treated to a passing train as we were finding the cache. Nice to see something this big so accessible from the freeway. Some strange guy was wandering around the other side of the private property area, so I was glad that we were departing quickly. Thanks for the cache.

Santa Cruz Pizzeria Get-Together

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

A nice way to end a very very very long day of caching (but a nice one). It was a little strange to be here without my normal entourage, and part of me kept looking around for a toddler getting into things while I tried to have conversations. Thanks for the hikes, the quickies, and the pizza event!

Twin Lakes Park

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This was a cute little park. I bet Geo Baby would love to come back and visit this one! Thanks.

North Harbor

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Thanks for a little quickie before the event! This was right on the way from where we ended up finding ourselves after TeamAlamo's interesting method of navigation through coastal Santa Cruz. TFTC!

A Three Hour Tour ...

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Today was more than a Three Hour Tour, but this cache wasn't responsible for more than 5 minutes of it, what with all 5 of us popping out of the car to scavenge around. Thanks for the cache!

A Hard One

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

Along for the ride, this is one of those that we searched for. I liked the location, although at the time we arrived there was no one about. TFTC.

Horse Camp Trailhead

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

I was with cachers that had been by here before, although DNFing this cache, so they had a pretty good idea of what to do and where to go with this one. Lots of horses and their people camping out this weekend. Thanks for the cache!

An Alternate Cache

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I think this alternate route is a bit more exerting than staying on the main trail, but we made it down anyway! We just about passed it by, since Alamo was in the lead and holding his brick up in the air to try and get some sort of signal. Luckily, Fisherwoman had the good eyes to see the memorial grove and Donvsop had the good GPSr! To balance things out, I did the cache-spotting and extraction. Thanks for the cache(s)!

Yellow Rose and Panther Beaches Parking

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I was with the crew on the way down for the pizza event after Hiking the Dozen and somehow we managed to stop for another dozen in the two intervening hours! This was a convenient stop, jump, and go on the way to the trailhead to visit the nearby Tales cache. Thanks.

Coast King

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Although we weren't in the market for such things, this looks like an interesting place to visit when you've got a little more time than we did. TeamAlamo did the honors here. They had one lane of the parking lot closed, so we had to travel the wrong direction to get to this one. Thanks.

up against a wall

By: surfbum007 Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

We were glad it was on the side of the wall it was. I managed to spot it as I was walking by. Thanks.

Secret Trail Head: Three Mile Beach

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Donvsop and I still needed to find this one on the drive down, but everyone else in the car seemed to have a different opinion of where it was when they found it, so we got to find it on our own, essentially, after a short walk against the grain of the arrow to a suggested location. Don made the grab after I got a handful of oil that I was using my shirt to remove. Thanks!

Secret Trail Head: Four Mile Beach

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

These sorts of items are always a lot of fun to search. Donvsop and I headed up to find the obvious location, and then after consulting the arrows set to work in a methodical fashion. It just happened to be on the side I was working... Thanks.

Tales of Odysseus: Into the Underworld

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Man, was it windy out there! We carefully crossed the train tracks, as we'd just seen a freight train pass by while we were doing EEWWWWWWWW a little before arriving at this location. As we were walking out, the beach just to the north had a group of people enjoying the sand and the surf (brrrrr!). It looked very nice, private, and pretty. I almost lost my hat as we came a bit closer to the cache and the edge of the bluff, but somehow managed to keep a hand on it so as not to lose it entirely. Thanks! (Okay, so I got a little confused with all the Tales' caches truncated in my GPSr, and I deleted the other log that references a windy bluff)

A Crossing Place Cache

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Fisherwoman and Donvsop were getting down to the business of searching as I was wandering around muttering to my GPSr (that was not paying any attention to me or any satillites overhead, by the way) and inadvertantly walking towards where the cache was hidden. Then my arrow turned and so I stopped and walked that way, just as Alamo speeded on by me. Apparently he spotted the cache while he was looking at me wondering what the heck I was doing wandering around like that... Thanks.

50sumtin's Big Basin Park HQ to Sea Baker's Dozen!

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Small

I started baking sometime in August, when WalruZ, Geo Baby and I did a little hike around the Big Basin state park headquarters in conjunction with a little camping and a group hike. We knew when we started that we would not be able to go the distance at that time, so I was content to just write some codes down and let it go at that. This past week, a last-minute opportunity came up to do the hike in a group (which is a nice way to hike in my opinion) and not worry about toddler schedules or limits (or weight). I enjoyed my trek down to the sea immensely, and have always thought this hike one of the best in the Bay Area! Thanks for the series.

Rancho del Oso

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Donvsop and I veereed off from our other 2 hikers just after finishing the series, as we had some time before our ride arrived at Waddell Beach. First, we combed one level, and then figured that we should be on the other after reading some past logs. There were quite a few people in the area, but the grab was easily made. Thanks for the cache!

Baldercache

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I really enjoy this portion of the trail down to the sea. By this point (either coming from HQ or Skyline) the nice wide and hard-packed/paved trail is heaven to the feet after negotiating the downhill over slippery branches and uneven terrain. Although, truth be told, I like that beginning part too -- just nice to have it even out towards the end when you're getting tired and stuff. Dropped some Geo Baby pencils here (as in several other caches today). Thanks for the cache!

Waddell Beach

By: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

This was a team effort for Donvsop and I, apparently with a little help from Team Alamo. I was just wandering around here, and Don was nice enough to clue me in. There were a lot of cars parked out at Waddell, and lots of surfing going on, in the afternoon. Now on to the baking! Mmmm, cake... Thanks for the cache!

Maiden Voyage

By: Pawnee Alumni Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

It certainly felt Pawnee-like to hike through the beautiful scenery this wet but wonderful morning! I look forward to the time that Geo Baby is old enough to become an Indian Princess out hiking with her Mom and Dad. Right now, she's at a stage where she's too big to carry far and too little to hike much... At the cache site, Fisherwoman managed to spot the cache as I was sticking my hands in all sorts of dark and nasty places. Thanks for the cache on the route to the sea!

Ca ņada de la Salud

By: Coralgeo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

About 3 years ago, almost to the very week, Woof!, BPSnake and I took our 3 day backpacking trip from Castle Rock to the sea, passing by this cache. With 2.5 days of hiking and 25 pounds on our back, I think we had been too tired and distracted by seeing the nearby ocean to spot the correct path to the cache site. Actually I'm not sure I could have made it up from the main trail to the cache site with that backpack on and my legs as tired as they were that day, now that I've found the cache! Today was much better, though, as Fisherwoman, Alamo and DonVsop and I were just hiking the day from Headquarters to the sea -- sans backpacks (okay, well, I had my camelbak on). This was the best view of the day and well worth the climb up to the bench! Thanks so much for placing and maintaining it!

Cement Pond

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I was out taking my pre-class walk this afternoon and, once again, chose the wrong levee to perambulate on (with respect to this cache, anyway). Unlike a couple of weeks ago, though, I was able to continue on and take the "long way round" to the cache site. On my way, I came upon a huge flock of pelicans blocking my way down the wrong levee (assisted just beyond by a huger flock of brown ducks) and they graciously and gracefully took flight as I came within about 100 feet of their group. Their white wings were tipped with a charcoal grey that was only revealed as they soared over the water, with wingspans of perhaps 4 feet! I only had my cameraphone, but I tried to take a movie of the incredibly cool birds as I walked up. Not sure that it turned out very well, though. Once at the cache site, I was still gawking at the random pelican individuals that had scattered to the nearby waters, so I must have looked over the cache at least twice before keying in on the hide. Thanks!

Runner's Paradise 1

I enjoyed my little pre-class walk out behind the dump this afternoon. This cache was my farthest out from parking today, but not my farthest walk! Thanks for the cache.

Getting to know yahoo

By: boulter Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I had a feeling that I had been hanging out in an area that this cache would be hidden in, so in preparation for my weekly visit back to the location I decided to take the time to solve this puzzle. I wandered around just a bit before managing to spot the cache. Then looked around me for all the people I expected to come pouring out of the nearby building at 5. There weren't too many, but enough that I had to delay my restashing of the cache. Cool stuff inside. I took a Lexis/Nexis highlighter and left a Google pen. Thanks for the cache!

Lucky Sevens

By: packetfairy Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

Brute-forced, which is probably the only way I'd be able to find a puzzle disguised as a multi within my work query. That, and the fact that the description is too long for cachemate, which truncates it for all those paperless cachers out there... Final site is an historical location in the San Francisco caching world, but I won't say more than that so as not to spoil the full experience for those that attempt it. TFTC.

Al's Place

By: cjspontiac Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We treated Geo Baby to a morning of playing at the park for her birthday today, and I have to say that this was a first-rate toddler playground experience for her. I am pretty sure that this was her first-ever real life experience with a see-saw, although she has read about them in one of her board books, and it is a pretty safe assumption to say that she loved it! Swings, slides of all lengths and heights, and plenty of "driving" at every location. Oh, we found the cache, too. Thanks!

Pecot Parkway

By: cjspontiac Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were in sort of a hurry for this one, since we had to get back up to Fremont to pick up Geo Baby's birthday cake and get to the party on time. Geo Baby wasn't too interested in walking after about 200 feet, since this clearly wasn't as exciting as the playground we had just spent a lot of time at. The nearby establishment was doing good business this morning, but we managed to find the cache without attracting any attention (even with Geo Baby practically howling about having to walk at one point) other than the interest of two nearby dogs (one yipper and one woofer). Thanks.

All Quacked Up

By: tumnus777 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

On the way to Vacaville today with Geo Baby, and we decided that we had lots of time before our party to take the scenic route (or the really really slow lane of 680). Had this one before Geo Baby could say "boo". Thanks for the cache!

Weekender 1

By: Hav42 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

On a quick drive up to Vacaville with Geo Baby today, and this was a convenient place to stop and grab a cache! I too noticed the "facilities" in the area, but they don't necessarily seem too recent at this point... TFTC.

Weekender 2

By: Hav42 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

No one in the area, as promised, so I was able to make the quick and easy grab without any sort of stealth mechanism at all. Not so lucky with the next in the series, though... TFTC.

Decisions...Decisions

By: L & F Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Found a cache on a place that matched the title, but it was quite a bit smaller than a 35 mm, and I'd really enjoy seeing someone try to stick a pencil in it. Hope it was the right container and I didn't find some end to a puzzle or something... Thanks for the cache.

Benicia Barracks

By: Binky del Mar Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Quick find after Geo Baby took a little spin on the nearby playground. There was some sort of "change of command" ceremony going on at the nearby Army Depot, so we did have to watch our Ps and Qs. TFTC.

Cordelia Pit Stop

By: Lithiumtech Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Geo Baby wanted a snack, and just kept repeating the word "snack" until I promised her that food was involved with our next stop. A pit stop seemed like just the thing... After setting her up with her McSnack, I drove around and watched the arrow to figure the best place to park. I found that parking spot on my 3rd try, and was happy to see that not many other people need a snack in the mid-afternoon. Thanks!

Keep Out

By: Lithiumtech Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Geo Baby and I were taking the scenic route to Vacaville this afternoon, and I had plenty of time and space to grab this cache on the way. Not too many other people driving the slow lane! Thanks.

Nice place to stop and enjoy the scenery, with reasonable parking to boot! Thanks for the cache!

Out for a little walk today before an evening class nearby. Quick find after scanning the area with my best caching equipment. Thanks for the cache!

Sunnyvale's Trash

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Waited out a noncaching couple walking by as I coyly scanned the cache area this afternoon before attending an evening class nearby. I think they were amazed at the interest I was taking in the information about the nearby facility, or maybe I'm just a slow reader... TFTC!

I had about an hour of (ostensibly) free time before my class started this evening at the nearby extension facility, so I decided to take a walk and visit the dump. Nice thing they've done with it... Cache is looking rather beat, but its still doing its job. Thanks!

Joined crawburr on our mutual quest to find this cache without any security intervention. We were there long enough, and overthinking the D/T ratings as well as what we thought we might have read in previous logs enough, that I thought that my security friend would pop on down again to see if he could help us. Luckily he did not, and crawburr was able to find the cache. Collectively, we did a much more thorough job of searching (unnecessarily, as it turns out) than I did on my own last week. Thanks.

Rust in Peace

By: bullit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Today was the day to take out our beater bikes and Geo Baby's trailer and see what South San Jose could reveal to us. The portion leading up to this cache revealed the plight of San Jose's homeless and bored adolescent populations, but for us it was generally a nice ride. I arrived on scene first (as I was not pulling the whiny 28 pounder behind my spokes), and headed the direction indicated. Not much in there besides log and pencil, so we left a trade item or two and a TB. Thanks for the cache!

Trail's End, Coyote Creek in Stonegate Park

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Dusting off our old beater bikes and attaching Geo Baby's trailer, we were off for a start-and-stop sorta ride today. I saw a likely hiding spot, but then a lizard came scurring up and around at about my face-level, startling me a bit and causing a hasty retreat. After searching nearby, WalruZ came to help and we had it in hand shortly after that. Thanks!

Stonegate's Gate: Coyote Creek Trail's End

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

This one was all Walruz. I couldn't seem to spot anything here today, nor feel anything, and so WalruZ and I switched jobs and I entertained Geo Baby in the trailer (so she wouldn't insist on getting out) and he managed to find the cache. Just at that time, a guy with three minature dogs almost came walking by and we tried to be friendly -- Geo Baby likes to say hi to doggies -- but the bikes and trailer spooked them and they collectively retreated until we rode on.

Coyote Creek Los Lagos

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Got to zero and looked around, not seeing any reasonable place that someone with the experience of STPRon would hide a cache. Got very puzzled. Then I turned around. Have I mentioned yet that I wasn't doing well on the caching mojo today? Dropped in a travelling geocoin that wants to go to Hawaii, which unfortunately is not on our itinerary anytime soon, seeing as taking a 4 mile bike trip in South San Jose results in a great deal of excitement for our household... Thanks for the cache!

Coyote Creek Golf Crossing

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

For some reason, this cache didn't appear in my query, even though it ran this morning and I had every other cache within 3 miles in it. It remains a mystery. WalruZ had it, though, and so we stopped in the shade of a very nice tree. Found a nice big cache with not so many signatures in the log. Geo Baby liked looking at the contents, and saying "put it back" when she finished her examination of each item. I think she eventually found a figurine for which we traded a few items in. TFTC.

Coyote Creek Driving

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I arrived onsite first, but was hampered in my search by a gaggle of adolescents decked out in their sunday black, carrying their fast-food lunch. After that, I searched every nook and cranny of that fence until WalruZ got there and started getting bored with watching me search, so he searched the same nooks and crannies and ended up with -- zilch. It was then that I expanded focus and finally found the cache. As we were departing to the southeast, I noticed that someone has made a home in the trees near the creek about 200 feet away from the cache site. I got to see them later in residence as I rode back by to get the car. They didn't look too friendly. TFTC.

Your Turn, San Jose

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I don't think it was a drunk at the pavilion, just a bored teenager in a black hoodie sitting all alone. He was still there and even a little more animated 3 hours later when I was making the return trip back to the car, so perhaps he just doesn't have anywhere else peaceful to go on a Sunday? WalruZ found this one pretty quickly, while I was negotiating the helmet issue. As we were departing this little picnic park, I realized that we were in the Sylvandale/Andrew Hill area of the SJ District and then I knew what the trail should look like -- I have some friends that taught school at those particular institutions and described some of the neighborhood influence on the children. Sad, really. Thanks for the cache.

Coyote Creek Hill

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

My bike is in a bit better shape than WalruZ's, so I was having a fabulous time! Hill? I don't quiver about no stinkin' hills! Actually, I wasn't looking forward to climbing the one I saw nearby the cache site, and was really happy when that wasn't required! Walruz, with all his mojo today, pulled this one out after he rode up and I'd been searching a while. Go figure... Thanks!

Shady Coyotes

By: STP Ron Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

We grabbed the first stage on the way down Coyote Creek Trail from Tully Road, thinking that it was a traditional while we were searching (until we actually started to read stuff), instead deciding to note the coords to stage 2 and continue on with our bike ride. Our intention was to pick up the other stages on our ride back, but it turned out that only I was able to ride back to the car, and I tho ught it best that I not stop to do a cache when Geo Baby and Walruz were waiting for me at the Silver Creek staging area with a snapped deraileur. As I was driving back to pick them up, I realized that I was driving right past the coords for stage 2 and there was a 2-5 playground there. Given that Geo Baby had been cooped up in the trailer for a lot of today's ride, I resolved to come and finish the cache on the way back. Its a wonder that the area of stages 3 and 4 aren't developed into strip malls or high-density housing! Thanks.

Around They Go.......

By: bykenut Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

On a family ride with our beater bikes and Geo Baby in her trailer (not wearing her helmet on this portion, aargh). WalruZ had already found this one, so he waited with the bikes at the most logical place to leave the path. Later in the ride his entire deraileur would snap off (did I mention the beater-quality of our bikes?) and we'd cut short our bike ride at only 4 miles, but fortunately that happened at 200 feet from the Silver Creek Staging area so it was easy enough for me to whiz back to the car and get them. All-in-all, it was a fun day. Thanks for being a part of it!

Peregrine Snack

By: Bamboogirl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

On our way to the San Jose event after our nice little hike, we decided that we had enough time to swing by and take a look for this cache. Park was eerily familiar, as not only had I been here for the aforementioned Joe Spaz cache but when I was out on maternity leave with Geo Baby, I started toying with setting up a "clever" multi in the other part of the park. Never did get that one implemented before I had to go back to work... Oh well. WalruZ found the cache, and then he couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the evening. Thanks for the cache.

Fence Posts

By: Bamboogirl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

We decided to take a family hike out to this cache this afternoon, and even let Geo Baby use her own two legs until we started getting to the uphill point where she couldn't quite stand on her own. Then it was Mommy's back for her... Anyhow, I think after reading the forum posts I was expecting something a bit closer to access points (nevermind the parking issues, we didn't bother worrying about signs this Saturday afternoon since there was no flea market and an olive fest reasonably far away to keep security from spending time up here), but we had a couple of hours to cache before the San Jose event and no real drive to do numbers today. It took us about 30-45 minutes to reach the cache via the route that we took from the nearest marked parking. Of course, up to the water tank we were walking at the pace of a 2 year old... Cache was very nicely stocked and Geo Baby enjoyed her necklace (for a while, then Daddy wore it). Dropped a couple TBs in as well. TFTC.

Geocoinfest Multi Event (Northern California)

By: Team Leggoes, Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Every event is fun in its own way, but I have to say that this event had some special fun going for it! I guess I'm just sort of a closet BINGO and Moose-lodge kind of lady, right down to the lasagna dinner and plastic tablecloths. I had a rollicking conversation with the BETA crew about all sorts of things Central California, won a Geocoin binder (that I had been salivating over just an hour beforehand), and received some shiny new geocoins. The kids seemed to have fun finding trouble around the room, and it was nice to have a stage for them to play on. Geo Baby, in particular, thought that was pretty neat. Alas we cut out during BINGO, since I'd already kept Geo Baby out past bedtime in order to fulfill my need for ice cream, so I didn't have a chance to blackout!

I came by this evening after a class at UC extension nearby. After getting the Lockheed Martin station cache quickly, my confidence was boosted and I thought, hey, why not go for this one? So, after winding my way through the streets and a parking lot that I initially wasn't sure that I should be in, I found the search area. I even found the public parking. However, the cache seemed to be on private property given where my GPSr was pointing, and my suspicions o f that were confirmed when after 20 minutes a security guard from the company came out to, um, help me. So, is it really at a public-access location? Maybe some updated coords are in order...

Came by and saw catomcat signed in earlier today. Cache was as advertised! I liked its proximity to a Togo's so that I could grab a snack before class tonight. I'd never seen a Togo's with a full bar in it! Swapped TBs, TFTC.

Have a Ball

I had a little extra time before traffic got nasty and my UCSC extension class started tonight, so I decided to go and have a ball. Only I didn't have a ball to trade, just a TB, so I swapped out TBs. Nice walk today -- the cache offers a spectacular view of Yahoo! and all its parking. Thanks for the cache.

Too Weird, Man

I'm taking a class in the evenings at the UC extension campus nearby, and thought that afterwards would be a great time to visit the nearby VTA caches. I was correct in this case, as the cache was a quick find in the dark with no one around to worry about. TFTC!

St. Francis Wood

By: GreyCacheRacing Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

I came by during street sweeping times, so had to wait out some neighbors moving cars around and such. Since parking right by the cache was impossible, I suppose this wasn't technically a drive by for me, but it was real close. I initially thought I was going to be led to a more, um, notable location for the title neighborhood, but it's nice to find a cache anywhere, so thanks for the cache.

Stairway to Heaven

By: kayamycat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

Although I did try to get to the additional waypoint, I missed the stairway and ended up heading over to the nearby trailhead that used to have a Marky and Joani cache at it. That did the trick, although it certainly didn't help me find the cache at the site -- that took some time, and a few unintended encounters with thorns. After a while, I was sure that I was going to end up DNFing this cache since it was starting to get to an unreasonably late hour of the morning to show up to work, but just as I was doing my "final pass" of the area, I fina lly spied it near one of the hinted items. TFTC.

HibbityGibbity OAK?

This cache was on my alternate commute route today, so I couldn't help myself and stopped by. I had read the logs last night, and so was a little leary of conducting my search at 8:30 on a Wednesday morning -- just after prime dropoff time at the elementary school -- but I went for it anyway. I'm not one of those people that looks too suspicious lurking around schoolyards anyway, although it is much more helpful when Geo Baby can come with me to these locations... I heard lots of bangs and bumps on the portable classroom walls, but there were no windows to worry about so I went ahead and searched. Cache was quite a bit bigger than I expected! Thanks.

Thanks for the cache in the GGNRA. Nice to see the museum geo-marked. Beautiful day out this way, the fog was just starting to roll in around 6 pm while I was there. Waited out some spectators, then went for the cache.

Ravishing View of Golden Gate

By: mathgen Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

The GGNRA land in San Francisco boasts some of the most scenic and peaceful locations in the city. I visited after work, largely coming this way to avoid traffic driving southward at 6pm. I noticed the tent but it didn't seem occupied. It would be a nice place to live, if you had to do it outside... Had a little trouble pinning down the cache location, reading 60 feet at GZ with 40 feet EPE, so I let some alternate coords average while I signed in. Thanks.

I was taking the long way in to work today, since I had to drive to the alternate location and all, so I decided to pick up a few caches just hanging out there at the edges of my home query. This was a very nice park, on a beautiful morning, and for a second I even felt a little envious of the stroller moms that were just starting their loop at 9 am while I got back into the car to go and Do Important Things at work today... Then, as I listened to their conversation for another 30 seconds, I got over it. Thanks for the cache!
