WalruZ and I were on our way up to St. Joseph's Open Space, and stopped around the corner to pick up some lunch to take. Quick find; no one around mid-morning. Thanks for the cache.
Angel Island Warm Up.By: Thefogheads Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
WalruZ and I got a great Christmas present from the Dread Pirate LeChuck -- a free day of babysitting Geo Baby! We wanted to take him up on his offer before the knave set sail for grand adventures in Walnut Creek and forgot all about holidays at home, and WalruZ has been talking about visiting St. Joe's Open Space for the last month or two, so off we went. After an opportune cache near where we picked up lunch, and then another when we made a wrong turn to the trailhead, we set off in search of this little guy. At first we checked the obvious spots with no luck, then I happened to get into "detail-oriented" mode and uncovered it pretty quickly. Met geowal as he passed by on his run and we had a nice conversation. Thanks for the cache!
Rock PalaceBy: Loma Costanoan Indian Princesses Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
We had a very nice walk up here from Novitiate Park. I was happy with the trails that we inadvertantly chose to ascend and descend, as there are several strategic decisions when moving around the loops. The cache was certainly near a Rock Palace. Well, some nice woodrat thinks its a nice palace I'm sure... Thanks for the cache!

After an invigorating hike up to the peak viewing area, we made our way to the cache site. We stopped and had lunch, since it was a gorgeous view and sheltered from prevailing winds. Thanks for the cache!
Are you game?By: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
After a small conferral at a trail juncture, we continued on and spotted the access point easily. A short wait for a few passers-by and we were game. Thanks for the cache!

As the shadows waned on the day, I was starting to get anxious that we were overstaying our Christmas gift from LeChuck. We took the suggested route and found that to be more hospitable than the direct way out. thanks!
Santa Clara Valley ViewBy: Marky & Joani Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
It was a great day for a hike in this area, and we were fortunate to receive the gift of babysitting from LeChuck for Christmas, allowing us to tackle the hill up without dragging our usual 30 lb anchor (the gift also allowed LeChuck to not go on the hike, which was perhaps a bonus for him). For some reason, MacGPSPro dropped a couple of waypoints when loading my GPSr (grrrrr, now I gotta figure that one out), and this was one of them. So I ambled on by cluelessly while WalruZ called out "hey. hey there, where ya going?". I pulled it up on the Treo and it wasn't disabled or anything so I punched in the coords and started lookin'. And there it was... Thanks for the cache!
Bigger, but not closerBy: Nurse Dave Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Large
WalruZ and I were out moving around the St. Joseph's open space today, and he suggested that I amble on over and check this cache out before heading up that final bit to the top loops. Our Christmas present from LeChuck was free babysitting, and today was a great day to cash it in, weather-wise. W e had a great time without our normal 30 extra pounds to carry uphill. It was a very nice walk over from the View cache, and at the site I finally felt a little secluded from the traffic that was on the main trails. Thanks for the cache!

Cool! I thought that was some weird-looking weather station until I read the cache page... WalruZ and I got free babysitting from Lechuck as a Christmas Present, and redeemed that today. What a wonderful day to hike around St. Joseph's, weather-wise! Thanks for the cache.

We had to wait out a couple bikers that had stopped for repairs within eyeshot of the cache site, but after that we enjoyed our find. WalruZ wanted to sit forever and read the old log book. He's sentimental like that... Thanks for the cache.
billy goats cacheBy: DCgeotracker Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
We missed the trail for this one on the way up, or rather we chose poorly, but remembered to get it on the way back down to the car at the end of the day. Great little spot and our last cache of the day. What a nice place St. Joseph's OSP is! Thanks for the cache on the "alternate" trail.
Under the High WireBy: Loma Costanoan Indian Princesses Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
We had fun trying to figure out the best access point for this cache, but it was all fairly straightforward once we saw where we needed to go. Being an oldie, we sat and read the log for a while, even though it was a replacement log. One of the MROSD rangers has taken an interest in this cache after stumbling upon it in 7/06 and seems to visit every few months or so. Very cool. Thanks for the cache.
Levee Run - Rest spotBy: csolsen Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
We've been by this revitalized area few times now and always stop to have a look. The day before this cache was listed, in fact, we started talking about a hide for the area! Today we decided that we'd stalled getting up and ready to get out of the house for a long enough time that we should just take this short walk before getting back home for Geo Baby's naptime. She even walked the whole way out to the cache site from our best parking option! Traded a pencil eraser top for a red foam ball. Thanks.
Crossroads at SandalwoodBy: cjspontiac Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
Not too many people around on this overcast Saturday, so stealth wasn't the main problem here. Geo Baby enjoyed the swings but the slide was just too wet for her to play on. WalruZ and I enjoyed the cache and then after a swing or two, off we went. Thanks!
Lone Tree ParkBy: daca$hmaster Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
Geo Baby was interested in visiting a playground this morning, and so WalruZ and I bundled out of the house and picked this one. After the recent rain, the approach ended up caking our shoes with mud, but after all, mud is fun! Thanks for the cache.

udated - Just in time for the holidaysBy: howeler & Mira Jade Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
I'd been here before with the posted coords and ended up in the larger park area searching some trees that didn't need any more rough handling than the beer bottles suggest they're getting by noncachers. On returning home, I scanned the logs for some useful advice and found the coords from the 8/14 log as Wacka did. Today, armed with all sorts of useful advice about testing out gates and playgrounds being nearby, we all set out on a playground-sampling adventure. The park appears to be open from 10am to 6pm, and the gate we entered was unlocked and accessible from a very public parking area. Geo Baby enjoyed the playground as I found the cache while my GPSr read 4 feet. So, the coords I'm posting with this log, courtesy of minus273 on 8/14, seem pretty darn good. TFTC.
DuckeyBy: Duckey Lee and Rocket Girl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Conferred with the cache owner and was able to provide a new container in line with the description and hint. The area was very festive for the holidays, even the statue seems to have been dressed up appropriately by someone with a pair of waders. Thanks for the smiley!

Dr Pain and Mistress Lorena seem to be on vacation today. GPSr was feeling a bit wonky today, and could've used their treatment, IMO. Found the cache after a short search slightly away from the pointy arrow, but in a thoroughly logical place. Thanks for the cache.
Bret Harte ParkBy: GeoMoosers Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
You'd think they could fork over a little money for a simple swingset or something, not that today would have been a good day to use it, though. Way too drizzly out there, but kind of surreal up on Mt Diablo too! Thanks for the stop on the way to the top!

Not much of a view today, but I did enjoy crunching around on the snow as I walked around the trail! It brought back memories of a backpacking trip I once took in a Massachusetts state forest at the end of February. Thanks for the cache, it was in the first place I looked!

Devil's PulpitBy: 4wheeler Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Micro
it took me some time to get to this one from the trail, less because of any devil that may be hiding in the rocks and more because I wanted to be careful since it was a bit snowy in the area and I couldn't quite see where I'd fall to if I slipped. So, I guess you could say that Hell froze over today and the Devil went and found a more tropical pulpit (as did most of the muggles one would expect here otherwise)! TFTC.

Tales of Odysseus: Helios, Bringer of the SunBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
We had lots of sun, but it was still pretty crisp and windy out there today. Geo Baby was starting to get a bit, well, tired really. Since nap time was pretty close at hand, up she went and I carried her for her brief nap period. WalruZ made the grab on this cache and off we went (a little faster now that Geo Baby was riding). Thanks.

Tales of Odysseus: Calypso, Sea NymphBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
Geo Baby had decided around this time that she wanted to walk too, so down she went and we sauntered along for a few caches at toddler speed, after finding the Sea Nymph. I left a travelling coin here to enjoy Calypso. Thanks.
Wilder CoastBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
I was hanging back on the trail, holding hands with Geo Baby as she walked up the trail when WalruZ had stopped and motioned me to take a photo at a particularly scenic spot. Well, I had been looking at my GPSr, so I thought it was just a ruse for all those noncaching folk that seemed to pop up out of nowhere in this section of Wilder. So, after a few photos I pulled out this big ammo box and WalruZ's eyes got really big. I guess he wasn't aware that he'd stopped at a cache site! Thanks.
The Sun Also SetsBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Tales of Odysseus: The Suitors and Penelope's TestBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
WalruZ, Geo Baby and I went out for a nice windy hike on the Wilder bluffs today, and this was our first (well, my first, as Walruz did the trailhead cache I'd already done a few months ago) stop. We enjoyed our approach from the beach area, and watched a half dozen or so surfers battling the waves on the way there. We found it quickly and I signed in while WalruZ entertained Geo Baby on his back. Thanks!
Great Wilder Ranch Trail HeadBy: 50sumtin Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Fabulous area that we walked through to get from parking to here as our final cache in Wilder Ranch. Geo Baby had all sorts of questions about the farm area, and really wanted to spend more quality time with the chickens and then off we went and got to meet Team Perks at the cache site. Thanks for being a big part of our nice family day in Wilder!
Wild BeachBy: Sgt Stitches Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Found the letterbox first, pretty much since it wasn't in very good shape and I could see it as we approached. It was pretty clearly marked, though, so we looked around a little more and found the very clearly marked geocache. It looks like we were pretty lucky in the timing for retrieve and replace, since as we were heading off another family took over the area. Thanks!
The Holy GrailBy: Sgt Stitches and the Cruz Commandos Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
Run away! Run away! I was able to complete the cache coords from memory, but went ahead and checked myself by watching the DVD last week. Anyway, WalruZ, Geo Baby and I were in the area walking around a bit (well, Geo Baby didn't have to walk the whole way) and thought we'd stop on by. The hide site has this uncanny resemblance to, well, let's just say I startled a bit when a squirrel jumped down some nearby blackberry vines... Funny thing was that Walruz had to finish up the find, since Geo Baby found the site kind of scary and I was unable to go more than 20 feet from her comfort limit of the area. Thanks for the great puzzle and the well-hidden cache!

WalruZ, Geo Baby and I started out from the 4 mile beach trailhead and enjoyed our breezy (well, okay, downright windy) walk around the bluffs. This was my second cache of the day, and I enjoyed the walk in from the main trail. Thanks for the cache!
In BetweenBy: Baron88 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Headed out with WalruZ and Geo Baby for a post-festivities-after-naptime walk, thinking that we'd perhaps find both of the caches in the area that we still had to do. Instead, since the two caches had different best access points, we opted to visit a playground on the way back to the car and make a Merry Christmas of it for Geo Baby (and maybe also for a lucky FTF cacher, if you get my drift). At the cache site, we enjoyed spending some time explaining different items in view to Geo Baby. Thanks for the cache.

Frank's TanneryBy: crawburr Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Walruz, Geo Baby and I were out for a morning of furniture shopping at Hoot's, capped off with an insane run to Toys R Us nearby. As I approached the area, the cache was lying on the ground, a few feet from where I discovered that it should have been. So, not much of a multi for me, but I did replace it where the attachments indicate that it should be. Perhaps the current mechanism is no longer strong enough to do its job? A few kid-friendly swag items remained, but the geocoin, sadly, was not there. The log was full, but luzian seems to have added a slip of paper to hold the cache over until maintenance is convenient. Thanks for the cache among the Xmas Eve frenzy!
10 More EssentialsBy: workerofwood Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
I had a little errand to run here, and so we hit this cache on our way out of town after holidays with Grandma Katie. We'd spent some time in Ft. Ord today, getting a flat tire and walking the bikes out (after going 1/3 with 2 DNFs due to an owner pulling and archiving caches yesterday, and our PQs ran on Friday...). It was a long day. Nice hike; but long day. Dropped a TB. Thanks for the consolation smiley.
MAS LANDINGBy: Hidey Hunter Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
Walruz and I were batting 0 for 2 today, as Koolrat apparently came out and collected his caches yesterday, when we hit this cache and turned things around. We had taken the bikes from Creekside Terrrace, but WalruZ had a flat at the Pilarcitos intersection with Jacks Road. It was push the bikes for the rest of the trip out and back. This is probably the most work I've done for a single cache. It just wasn't our day today, but my that was great cammo here! Dropped a geocoin, thanks for the bright spot in our adventure!

MAIN MANGO COLABy: Team COHO Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular
Maybe a month or two ago, Walruz asked me to take a look at this cache and schedule some family time for all of us to go on the hunt. So, I did. There were a few different photos open to interpretation, but I found my parking spot to be a helpful interpretive guide... The really fun part was working on finding some MANGO COLA before setting out on our MAIN journey. Of course, scheduling the way it is, we waited for LeChuck to join our merry band, and this morning was it! I have always liked the area, and it seems that the City has thought to improve it just a bit since the last time I visited, including some added surveillance. With the nearby construction, and the type of facility that will be nearby at completion, I think this area can only improve. Dropped a TB. Thanks for the cache.

You Can Walk Your Dog Across the Dumbarton?!?!By: fearthefish Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
We managed to get onsite somewhere between the ranger truck and highway patrol car rounds, which is always a good thing around a sensitive transportation area... ACTIVITYBy: Venona Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Not being one to fall for the wily Russian's taunts, I had only cursorily followed this year's ACTIVITIES. Nevertheless, I knew I was going to be in this area today and so I carved out some time one evening last week to work on the solution. I was about to lose patience with the process while using one of my normal "tools", when I re-read one of Vaudesir's forum post and tried a tool that he linked. After all, the French are our allies, mostly. In the fast-food nation that we have become, my method of solution was still a bit of a patience-tester at the end of a long workday (during which I was cribbing a solution for why our analysis tools were plotting a particular brain region outside the brain), but I persevered. Turns out that I might not have really needed to work so hard, as our merry band of patriots visited later, but I have that warm fuzzy feeling inside for having the solution, anyway. Or maybe that was the shot of vodka? Joyeux Noel and all that...

Easy enough to grab at this visit. I always think areas like this, where the urban planning gods have taken a snooze, are very interesting. As I was driving out, a motorcycle cop was toodling on past me over to the cache area. I wonder if my parked car got his attention? He couldn't have gotten off his bike to inspect, though, as I saw him driving out by the time I was pulling onto the freeway... Thanks for the cache.

I've driven by this area and said "yup, there's a cache about there" several times in the last year or so, but today seemed like a smashing time to stop. Not much traffic and no pedestrians to speak of, besides me. Thanks for the cache.

Graduation DayBy: big checker Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Cool attachment mechanism, did they teach you how to do that in Kindergarten before you graduated? They teach lots of advanced stuff in Kindergarten these days, so I wouldn't be too surprised. I liked quite a few of my teachers, and I had a lot of 'em since I went to school for what seems like forever, but I think if I had to name a favorite teacher it would be Mr. Russell from 4th grade. He was just an all-around nice guy and had lots of "contests" where we got stickers and stuff for answering questions about state capitals and stuff. Thanks for hiding the cache for me to find!

The only thing Rod Searling would have found interesting is the weird readings my GPSr was producing this morning. Thanks for the cache.

I was sauntering around the area looking for interesting parks and stuff after the REI outing. Lots of doggies going to and fro around here, but all very well-behaved. Covered the cache a little better than I found it, in the hinted area, which is to say that I found it out in the open. The story around this cache still sends shivers up my spine (and not only because of the copay). Thanks for the cache.
Semi-Secret Trailhead: STASCTBy: stbk Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
My last find of the day on the cache-as-cache-can in the San Jose-Saratoga-Campbell area before and after the REI outdoor school expedition. There was something very peaceful about having the trailhead in this spot. I can't quite put my finger on what it was that seemed tranquil, though. Maybe it was the soundwall blocking the Saturday afternoon traffic noise? It amazes me how many people live in this area now. and they all seem to be out driving on Lawrence (I grew up in Sunnyvale, where the same phenomenon has occurred). Thanks.

Things were just starting to pick up here at about 20 minutes to 9. I couldn't quite figure out why, since the place doesn't open until 10, but some folks really cherish good parking I suppose. I'm not familiar with the location, per se, but I'm sure I've got years to enjoy here. I had great parking and not many eyes on me for my first visit (we came back later as a group). I rehid just a little better than I found it, but that still didn't deter the others from finding it later. Thanks!

ANX: The Angle of EternityBy: workerofwood Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
I had a lot of fun today seeing some very novel ways to construct a stage and the hints that go along with it. Hats off to you, WoW (and I did switch hats a few different times today with the changing weather)! I think I might have figured each stage out without the helpful nudges, eventually, but having the right equipment on hand was truly appreciated! As others before us, the group mentality worked well. I think I'll be working through the solution again with the family someday and this is one of those caches that I'll be happy to revisit each stage of! TFTC.

Sunset Resevoir IIBy: Gumlung Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
I had an itty bit of time before work today, so I decided to route to this neighborhood. Having owned a cache about 5 feet from where I found the current one, I was prepared for the great view, but I wasn't prepared for the phenomenal waves that I saw coming in at Ocean Beach. They were huge this morning! The fog and chill kept a lot of the normal walkers away, and I was able to find the cache easily. They've done a nice job on the reconstruction of the park -- the manicured tanbarky area is a nice touch from what was there before, and they've added a lot more seating in the logical spot. The container is not at all waterproof, and so the log was completely soaked together. I did not try to pry it apart, as that would ruin the whole thing, so I signed with purple permanent pen along the side of the numbers. It could probably use some TLC with a hair dryer... Thanks for the cache.
