Foothill FrenzyBy: Xklondike Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
We came by to see what there was to see, and wouldn't you know we found a playground as well as a cache. Thanks!
athenourBy: clubjackie Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
We enjoyed looking at the horsies and goats at a much slower speed than we normally pass by here. thanks.
Ross Creek Combing IIBy: Vaudesir Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen
I wasn't sure we were going to make it in time for the opening festivities, since a certain lollygagging little person woke up late this morning, but we got there in the nick of time and we even found some trash to haul out! The plums, water, and cookies were a nice touch (although I think Geo Baby helped herself to more than her fair share of cookies when we weren't looking - Nazgul seems to have some indirect evidence of this in one of his photos). Then it was off to some food and a playground for us. Thanks for organizing our adoption and maintenance of this area.
Big Mother OrangeBy: rohrerboy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Beckerbuns' crew and I were out and about doing some dinner and socializing, and stopped by for this quick cache. Thanks so much for placing it.
Wild About WalkwaysBy: L-grl Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Yes, that was just wild. Well, mostly because Geo Baby was overdue for her nap and we were just stopping for this one last one... But, yeah, wild... thanks for the cache.
Dinosaur ParkBy: runeshower & cyan_blue Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Geo Baby was starting to suffer for her lack of nap, but we were in the area and wanted to finish off a nice late morning in the park, complete with used book browsing and stuff (a weakness for our whole family -- like we need any more used books in the house). WalruZ had a little trouble, but I think he was also lacking his nap, and so I tagged out and made quick work of it. Traded a sunscreen packet for a pair of barrettes that Geo Baby really wanted. Thanks.
Jeffery the Flying PigBy: runeshower & cyan_blue Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
While I was taking care of a potty break with Geo Baby at the book swap nearby, WalruZ headed over and did the initial reconnaissance for this cache. Then we joined in on the fun and he came up with the cache. Tough one.
Colin's 16th BirthdayBy: runeshower & cyan_blue Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Quick find on the way to the playground. And Geo Baby does love her some playground on caching weekends! Thanks.
Rock the Cradle ( Fly By Night )( MacGyver #62 )By: AD0OR Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
After having some lunch, the cache decided to hang out in a shady spot and look at the baseball park from afar.
Rock the Cradle ( Fly By Night )( MacGyver #62 )By: AD0OR Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
It seemed like a great location to go after picking Geo Baby up from school, so off we went. Will place this tomorrow, likely much more northerly...
Element #17By: GeekDad Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
This was going to be a grand beginning to our family caching morning, but alas they've closed the most obvious parking area for the trail on weekends -- permanently. I spoke with the johnny-on-the-spot security truck guy at Sun and while he was nice but had no other suggestions as to where to park and access the trail from, he was not going to give us a pass to use the edge of their lot. I guess this one needs to be accessed from quite a bit farther away on weekends and we need to plan a little better with Geo Baby along. On weekdays during business hours the lot is open, according to the guard.
How Does Your Garden GrowBy: TimberToo Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
This one took a while to spot, but fortunately there were plenty of things to keep Geo Baby entranced with while we searched the area. Thanks!
Discover Water: Mitchell ParkBy: Wildbun Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
We enjoyed our walk out to this cache, and explained what all the tennis was about to Geo Baby. As we sat down to look at the cache contents, she spied a stray tennis ball to go get. Traded the butterfly keychain ("that was so last cache, mom...") for the too-tempting marble. I personally enjoyed walking through the park, as it is a place my Mom speaks fondly of taking me to back when I was Geo Baby's age (I remember nothing). Thanks!
Hoover's PlaygroundBy: Wildbun Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
We decided to take a tour of Palo Alto this morning, focusing on playground visits so that Geo Baby would sufficiently enjoy her day. Our first stop at Johnson Park was a real win for Geo Baby, but a DNF for her parents. Then we made a bunch of non-playground stops for a multi that didn't do it for her. By the time we got here, we weren't sure that nap was just too close to the horizon, but she got up to snuff and enjoyed the swings and the preschool slide that was still in shade. Traded some small toys for a butterfly keychain, which improved the mood even more to allow us another playground visit down the road! Thanks.
Water's Vista @ MTV Shoreline, near the SF ScowBy: truedat101 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
We enjoyed a bit of time with Geo Baby playing on the Scow, then headed over to find this cache, as naptime would soon be upon us. Found pretty easily just thrown in a bush, with no covering whatsoever, so we replaced it in a more secure manner not on the ground. You may want to check on this one to make sure it is where you intend it to be. Thanks.
JokerBy: musicguy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Today was apparently going to be a workday in the gardens, but I got there earlyish and only a handful of folks were working their plots. Luckily I had enough cover to search (although I was making a bit of noise) without drawing attention my direction. I had to expand my area just a bit past a normal EPE, but found the ziploc container pretty fast in plain view from the right angle. Log/cache has dried out, but this is not by any means a waterproof container and most of the paper-oriented contents are starting to look pretty beat.
Historic Palo Alto 2By: Rain734 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen
WalruZ, Geo Baby and I have been chipping at the stages of this one for a couple years now, and today we finally achieved signing the bonus cache's logbook. We loved the bold placement! Exchanged a M & Ms man for a lion stamp to keep Geo Baby occupied for a bit. Thanks.
Cache For FunBy: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
I had been by here about 6 months ago after a dentist appointment in the reasonably-close vicinity on a weekday late morning, but couldn't search since the landscapers were hanging out and about. Today the weekend was hot and so I expected the nearby facility to be less than inviting. Still lots of people doing their thing outdoors, though. Luckily no landscapers were on duty. Thanks.
Hard and BrownBy: Rocket Girl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Thanks to careful observation of the title and difficulty level, I mostly passed by the tempting brown hiding spots (although sometimes habits are hard to break) to find the nicely-constructed one. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of my old childhood 'hood.
Oreo CacheBy: redkat and pb144 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
I enjoyed the shade while I signed the cute container. Thanks for the explicit hint -- there were enough people at the facility looking bored and at other people that I didn't want to draw undue noncacher attention.
Forgotten StairsBy: Rocket Girl and Duckeylee Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
i was kind of in the area, sorta, and I stopped to get lunch nearby (well, there was this cluster of caches on my GPSr map so it was an easy decision which fast food place to point to). It was just starting to get to the boiling point, high noon and all, so I snuck in and snuck out -- only attracting the slightest air-conditioned attention from the cars passing by. Thanks.
Sky CanBy: L-grl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
My last couple of visits here were always poorly timed on weekdays: after a morning dentist appointment just as the picnicking lunch crowd descended from nearby doorways and in the late afternoon on my way to a nearby evening class while people were using the walkways to get to their vehicles. I scoped out the simple hiding spot but could never rest my weary bones long enough (or in the right spot) to make the grab. Today, Saturday at high noon in a heatwave, no one appeared to be interested in sitting in the shade of the sky can outside (what with all the AC in the nearby buildings -- if they were gonna work today, it had better be cool in there, eh?) and I was able to make quick work of the find. Thanks.
Tree DownBy: mathgen Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
The family was all out here at high Noon, celebrating with WalruZ on his big day. Not much shade around these parts, eh? After visiting this cache site I can see why... "Tree Down; Tree Down!"
LeChuck's HellBeard TreasureBy: LeChuck Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular
I be sailin' wit de Cap'n today, an' we'uz a crew of scrawny mates. Arrrgh, the treasure'n gone to scalliwags but we were prepared to fight them to the end to return the booty. The navigation system was a hair off, from a grubbin' so much aforehand, but ascend to return ole HellBeard's loot we did.
CheetosBy: DavidT21 & Fisherwoman Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small
Our whole clan was following a cow trail from the nearby new cache to here, when we were stopped by a wall of cows. Actually, there were like 30 of them all crammed in under a tree right next to the path, and not one of them looked happy to see us cresting over their trail. There were more of them than there were of us -- and they all looked full grown to boot. They sort of stared us down and dared us to come make them stampede. Well, not one to ruin Father's Day with a bovine riot, I sent the troops back up and cut over to the main trail to get around the herd. Thanks.
Twinkie the KidBy: DavidT21 & Fisherwoman Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small
I think it was the heat, as this was the last cache stop on the hike and the others chose to wait on below, but I was just about to DNF this -- thinking all the time that Fisherwoman couldn't possibly have hidden it there -- and then walked a bit more and saw that she didn't. Yay. Thanks for the cute series.
Wonder BreadBy: DavidT21 & Fisherwoman Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small
Walruz had asked me if I had a preference for a Father's Day hike, and I had but one request: I want to wear shorts (it's been so darn hot out there!) so I would prefer to go somewhere that I don't have to hike through knee-high tick hangouts to get to a cache. So, this park was his choice. Hmmmm. I pretty much resigned myself to thistle scratches after our first stop in the park, but it really wasn't too bad, all-in-all. thanks!
Cracker JackBy: DavidT21 & Fisherwoman Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
So WalruZ gets to plan out his Father's Day and all, and so off we went to do some stuff in WC and then head here at high noon to hike in for a cache and a little cache maintenance. It's getting a little weird these days when a "day to celebrate" means "lets do cache maintenance", but I wasn't driving the ship today. Anyway, I got to grab the other several caches in the area too, thanks!
Ho Ho Huh?By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
The first find for me while out on a Father's Day hike in the blazing noontime sun. I wasn't responsible for the itinerary, mind you... I chose poorly on the whole fence issue, but then I could correct that pretty easily, eh? Happy Papa's Day to you.
The Great MigrationBy: Shiku and ellisonjung Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
I haven't been thinking much about picking up the odd geocache here and there recently, but when I saw this go live I figured that it would make a nice outing for WalruZ, Geo Baby and I. We populated the cache with both practical and shiny items, signed the log, snapped photos (but left the TB in the cache because the 2 year old was dangerously enamored of it), and we were on to the playground! Thanks.
Skunked Under The PinesBy: Trail Reader Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
After winding around the back of the park from the PO cache and down Iris, and then forcing WalruZ to hammer uphill back to the civilized areas of Jack's Peak via the Rhus-to-Pine trails (he was so verklempt he just about walked past this cache), we happened upon this little guy. Trail Reader, who dat? Made quick work of stinky #7 here and we were on our way to spot some rattlesnake-y cache wildlife. Thanks!
Frieden Liebe Gl ücklichkeitBy: rainbow_guyz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
This was caching stop #9 of 10 today at Jack's Peak, and we really liked this particular trail. In fact, RainbowGuyz was responsible for taking me on two new JP trails today! Having hiked around this park either with someone that doesn't have the physical ability to hike much elevation change, or solely for caches while alone, I had never ventured on Lower ridge or Iris trails before. The experience of the new trails makes me happy, as does finding the caches without rolling in poison oak -- thanks so much for being a part of our great hike! Swapped out some toys for Geo Baby.
A Poor Man's GeocacheBy: Geokashers Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro
#6 of 10 for WalruZ and I taking a nice leisurely stroll through Jack's Peak today. WalruZ didn't want to believe my GPSr, but believe it he did when I unearthed the cache. He's got this story about meeting LFoucht around here, and I got to hear it all over again... Thanks
Big-Time Rocky RootsBy: Trail Reader (formerly known as LFoucht) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
Our last cache of the day, and a nice one it was. I really liked this lower ridge trail, gentle grades but with just enough umph needed at the end to get you back to the car feeling like a full day of hiking was put in. While we were finishing up at the cache site, there was this horrible buzzing sound (almost like big truck traffic) and it seemed to be getting louder. Lo and behold, as we stepped away from the re-hidden cache, I see a park worker coming up the trail from whence we'd came. He was pushing a mower. Now that's a workout! Thanks for being a big part of a great day hiking!
Rattlesnake VistaBy: Trail Reader (formerly known as LFoucht) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
At #8 of the hiking day, we loved the accommodations and the vista, and even remarked upon the namesake wildlife of the title. Glad it was flora rather than fauna! I think WalruZ swapped for a necklace for Geo Baby here. Thanks for the cache TrailFoucht, um, LReader, um...
Rocky RootsBy: Trail Reader (formerly known as LFoucht) Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
Jack's Peak park was our hiking destination for this weekend, even though it seems that *someone* has offered quite a few new caching opportunities in quite a few different area parks recently {cough cough}. We had sort of a sputter-start trying to decide where we would go to first on our hike -- there were so many choices here -- and ended up pointing to this one. Some navigational mishaps and we ended up doing this one cache as it's own loop from the parking lot. Oh well. It's good for you to hike lots, right?
Welcome to Poison Oak Country!By: Trail Reader (formerly known as LFoucht) Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
#3 of 10 today on the SW end of Jack's. We were boppin' right along back down Jack's Peak trail and I realized that I'd not seen the junction for Skyline that I'd intended to take from #2. What to do, what to do? Well, since the cache was all about PO, we just dove on in and did the footage to get there. Silly, silly, I know, but the route we ended up picking out wasn't horrible. I guess I'll know how wrong I was about that in a few days... Thanks for the cache.
The Trees Like The View Too!By: LFoucht Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small
Okay, so this was #2 of 10 today at Jack's Peak, and after our little loop to Rocky Roots and back to the car, we took a different tack out to this one (via Jack's Peak trail rather than the interpretive plaque trail). As we got to the little clearing just south-ish from the cache area, I noticed four pairs of butterflies "playing" in the area. They were flying straight up, then swooping back down. It looked like lots of fun. Then the marine mammal I was hiking with said something a bit more crude about what they were doing and it just appeared bizarre to me after that. Swapped out the jacks set for some sunscreen packets, since I had trouble reclosing and they were the more odd-sized thing in there... Thanks.
Paix, Amour & BonheurBy: rainbow_guyz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
This was #5 of 10 on our hike today, and by this time we were gettin' the theme that these new JP hides weren't anywhere close to PO. That certainly narrowed down the search areas drastically, and we were able to find this pretty quickly. Thanks!
Peace Love & HappinessBy: rainbow_guyz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
This was #4 of 10 today for us on a little hike around Jack's Peak (well, the SW end of it, anyway). I've bopped around this park a few times, well maybe more than a few, and never actually made it back to this trail until today. Walruz was all worried about that elevation loss and stuff and whinging that there were no flowers as the name advertises, but I found the rolls and colors of Iris to be quite nice. Thanks much!
Valley ViewBy: CaptainHerb Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro
Quick find amidst even quicker traffic! Thanks for the cache.
PG HEXBy: MichaelShafferFamily Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
WalruZ and I were hanging around the area, letting Geo Baby enjoy some Gramma time without those annoying parents hanging around the house. Found this one pretty quickly after a pedestrian passed out of eyesight.
Father Junipero SerraBy: Wavesprite & Tigsurfn Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small
I'd never noticed this on my other drives by this area. Thanks for the stop!
Fun in the Sun!By: Team Skoldqvist Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular
Lots of people out and about on the trail today, but we were able to search the cache area unimpeded by unwanted eyes. Thanks.
Narrow BridgeBy: RoanQ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Walruz and I took advantage of the great weather this weekend and Grandma Katie's toddler entertainment venue, and went for a Saturday drive in the valley. We had not necessarily planned on doing these canyon caches, but were very glad that we did. I loved the little redwood 'grove' that flanked the narrow bridge. Thanks!
The DamBy: RoanQ Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small
What a cool little view from this cache site! It was puzzling to us, though, how behind the fences were both the Santa Lucia Preserve area and also private houses and several small boat-like vehicles docked on shore. I guess they're preserving the area for the wealthy, eh? At any rate, this is a place I wouldn't have ventured but for the caches that took me there, thanks!
Carmel-by-the-Sea: Jack is BackBy: private bones Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Other
We really enjoyed our time here in the late afternoon. It was a gorgeous day out at Carmel Beach, and lots of people were taking advantage of it on the sand and on the links. We got to zero and spotted the cache quickly, then enjoyed some sittin' time on the grassy slope. Thanks.
SwiftwaterBy: private bones Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular
Cool site -- we enjoyed taking a little walk and looking down at the gulley. Finding the cache was fun too -- neat little hiding spot for something that size! Thanks.
Twisted SisterBy: kc8hnz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro
Fun drive! I bet the site could handle something a little bigger, but it wasn't too difficult to find this bugger. Getting the log rolled back in, well, that was a different sort of challenge... Thanks.
Redwood BendBy: Just a Short Walk Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular
Neat little bend in the road, and the replanted cache is in excellent shape, although I'm not entirely sure it is consistent with the hint, it is in a nice and semi-obvious little nook to put an ammo box when you're out there looking around. Thanks to the CacheMedic (or subsequent visitor) for the snack that we traded out.
Creek RatsBy: SHHR and PtekPosse Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro
Nice to see the new landscaping nearby -- complete with informative plaque. That's new since my last caching visit to this spot a year or so ago. I'm sure it offers a nice place for the Creek Rats to sit while they loiter, but it was all ours today on our pre-nap visit. Thanks for the cache.
