A Lady Park Me

By: Bob & Elliecat Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

6pm Although I had figured out the hint, and determined that I could probably find the cache quickly, I decided not to search. The place was still crawling with people.

Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

The members-only restriction has been removed.

Other Than My Own?

By: UncleTom Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Based upon a previous puzzle, I knew the type of information I'd be looking for. Things came together quickly after that. Finding the cache was complicated by lingering muggles and abandoned shopping carts. The apparent disuse of the area around the hide made it seem less in theme than it should have. [;)] TFTC. mjp303

Congratulations to CrazyOn2Wheels for meeting the BAQC requirements, and receiving the coordinates to the final cache!

Valentine Love Notes

By: GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

The hike to this cache was quite pleasant under clearing late afternoon skies. Many of my favorite songs are from James Taylor, and the one that reminds me of my wife and best friend is 'Something in the Way She Moves'. TFTC. mjp303

Virus Bravo One

By: budd-rdc Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

This was a great spot to take a quick break in our trek from Long Rigde down to Portola SP. Shores Scout took a few pictures and we caught our breath. After a few minutes, a mountain biker came along with the hugest grin I'd ever seen. We were all having a fantastic time! TFTC. mjp303

Post Pigs Beware #2

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

Interesting cage, and unique container. I don't think I've ever seen one like it. No evidence of pigs on this visit. Thanks. mjp303

Back Porch

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

By the time I got oriented as to what was the front and back of the 'house', Shores Scout had the cache in hand. I seem to recall a cache with an identical hide over on Mission Peak! You do get around don't you? SMILIE TFTC! mjp303

Check for Ticks

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

No ticks, but it was dark enough under the trees in the late afternoon that I wouldn't have been able to see them anyway. I had to turn the back light on to start navigating to the next cache. Thanks! mjp303

Clover Forest

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

For us, this cache was hidden in a very cacher intuitive location and we had no trouble finding it. What a beautiful setting along the creek! It was one of my favorite along the whole trail. Thanks for bringing me here. mjp303

Forget Your Pen? (!P.O. Warning!)

By: WeBeDnD Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

It always helps to check whether or not the next cache along the trail is actually the closest one by looking at the map screen. [:I] That way you won't walk right past a cache, standing within 10' of it and not realize until you get 0.25 mile down the trail. The only thing I'm wondering about is why my caching sense wasn't tingling more. I gotta work on that. [;)] TFTC! mjp303

Grizzly Long Flat Ridge

By: ed777 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

After dropping a car at the Ranger Station in Portola Redwoods SP, we were back up here to start our trek down through Long Ridge OSP and along Slate Creek. Even at a few minutes after nine, it was still quite cool, but the strong sun and clear skies promised a beautiful day to come. After discussing the route with another hiker, we found this trailhead marking cache and were off on our adventure! BTW, the log was damp and, if there had been room for one, could have used a baggie. TFTC! mjp303

Up The Down Escalator

By: ed777 Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Any lingering morning chill was quickly gone after making the climb along this stretch of trail. Shores Scout and I were grateful for a chance to catch our breath while we searched for this cache. Thanks! mjp303

Wally's Cave

By: Tripp888 Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

We scoured the hillside on the wrong side of the trail, and then remembered we had more than just a GPSr to assist our search. Duh. Just as I was reaching to retrieve the cache, a mountain biker came zooming by, but he was moving too fast to worry about what I was doing! TFTC. mjp303

Redneck Bellagio

By: Team Nazgul Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

It was about sunset when we found this cache. Even with all the help, it was a bit tricky to find in the quickly fading light. It's been a wonderful day of hiking down from Skyline! While signing the log, we thought we heard people talking in the bushes. It was actually just the circulating water sound. Strange! TFTC. mjp303

Ranch Springs

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

Interesting spot! We made the loop in a counter-clockwise direction, which, in hindsight, was the right way to do it. TFTC! mjp303

Long Ridge Vista

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

Somehow we walked past this cache about 200' before realizing that we'd missed it. It was a very pleasant day hiking and talking with Shores Scout, I guess. [8D] Nicely hidden. mjp303

Pigs Beware!

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Plenty of evidence of piggies today everywhere except in the trap. It didn't look like it had been baited in a while. In fact, one of the panels on the top was missing. Can pigs jump? If so, the trap won't work! Thanks! mjp303

Slate Creek Trail Camp

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Small

After finding this cache, we passed a couple who must have been camping nearby. They had the place to themselves. Wonderful. mjp303

Page Mill Site

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Thanks for sharing the history of this site and placing this cache. What a fantastic hike along Slate Creek! mjp303

Redwoods: The Next Generation

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

The cache was pretty well covered with pine needles, but we perservered and eventually made the find. If they had to cut those trees down, it's a shame whoever did left so much lumber behind to go to waste. TFTC. mjp303

Ward Road Border Crossing

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Great view from this cache, and we took the opportunity to sit in the shade just above the cache to eat our lunch. For the most part we've had the trail to ourselves today, and it's been a fun adventure. TFTC! mjp303

Ward Road Outpost

By: bytemobile Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

With the old grass pretty wilted, and the new growth only beginning to sprout, this cache was pretty exposed. I tried to cover it up with a few more rocks since the one we found on it seemed woefully inadequate. TFTC! mjp303

My bark is worse than your byte...mobile

By: Lil Devil Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Acutally, it was the bit about the 'Goose Pens' that helped me find it. We had a good laugh. Definitely the most creative hide of the day. The cache is in great shape. Thanks! mjp303

S.F. Cable Car - California & Van Ness

By: Gumlung Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We took a Black Friday cable car ride today, no shopping for us! Ted (6) found the cache, and proudly shouted his discovery out to all of us! People looked, but nobody understood. [;)] Thanks for the adventure! mjp303

At the Pier

By: CTomGeo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

No shopping for us on Black Friday: an outing to the City fits our style. There weren't as many sea lions as in visits past, but the number of people seemed to be greater than ever! That's me in the middle with a blue baseball cap holding the GPSr. The rest of the family is gathered around. Lots of fun! Thanks. mjp303

House of Peace and Grace

By: campyc Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

A black Friday family outing brought us by cable car to the House of Peace and Grace. We enjoyed trying to identify the stories depicted on the door panels. What a magnificent work of art! The inside was wonderful as well, and there were quite a few people using the labyrinth. Thanks for showing us this place. mjp303

Picchetti Peacocks

By: ladybug54 & trode Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Sage View

By: MotorBug Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Other spices were available for the quest, but this one seemed the tastiest to me. We admired the M J sig item and heartily agreed that San Jose is a pretty sweet geocaching town. Thanks for the nice little hike and scenic view! mjp303

Lakeshore Picnic Cache

By: GeoBrowns (adopted by Gitonyerhorse) Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

After collecting some spice for the quest, we stopped by for this nifty little hide. Interestingly, there was a group cooking their bird over a BBQ grill nearby. TFTC! mjp303

Just A Little Higher!

By: CKayaks Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 4.5 Container: Small

We contemplated the direct route for about 3 seconds, and then contoured around to the next cache, thinking there had to be a longer, but less strenous route. It turns out not! Thanks for the chance to scramble around on top. The coin is missing. mjp303

Another way up ? 2, Lizard?s Home

By: CTomGeo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

In deciding to go for this cache, I think we were of the opinion that there might be another way down to the Stanford Ave trailhead. A loop or somthing...fatigue was definitely setting in, and after the find we trudged back up to the saddle to make our descent. TFTC. mjp303

Maya Silver: Secrets

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

This cache was our lunch stop. After translating all of my chicken scratches into coordinates for the final, we ate a shared meal...although I seem to recall that vaccine didn't offer me or TPS a dorrito. [;)] TFTC. mjp303

Maya Silver: Redoubt

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

I'm sweaty and winded, but those million dollar views are well worth the effort. I never knew that there were hillside springs up here. On the way past this cache we past the first of several. Thanks for providing a cache series with such an interesting story line. mjp303

Maya Silver: Escape

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I'm going to take the position that everybody's really enjoying themselves when I walk right off the main trail and they just follow on behind despite what the arrow says. Yeah, that or they're severely oxygen deprived. [;)] TFTC! mjp303

Maya Silver: Sacrifice

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

By this point we were getting to an elevation were we could really see the valley. It was a bit hazy, but wonderful nonetheless. Great views from this...and every cache along our route today! Thanks. mjp303

Maya Silver: Betrayal

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

It fell to me to copy the pictures at each cache in the series. The task was a lot of fun: some physical exertion followed by a little mental effort. A great combination! mjp303

Maya Silver: Greed

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Yup, the trail is steep. It didn't help that we decided to take a short-cut...straight up the hill. I'll wager we pay for that later on. We found the cache sitting out on the ground, unlatched, but put it back where it belonged. TFTC! mjp303

Maya Silver: Encounter

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I met up with vaccine and TPS for the Mission Peak loop. Things were looking a bit familiar, but it wasn't until we found the Inca Gold cache over the hill that I was able to check the logs and confirm that I had indeed been here before, over 2 years ago. That day was blazing hot, but today was cool and overcast. Perfect! Thanks for providing the motivation for a reprise visit. mjp303

Maya Silver: Tears of the Moon

By: WalruZ & GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

Thanks for a fantastic series! I can't believe you carried that cache camouflage all the way up there. [:O] We enjoyed taking pictures and having a glimpse of the backside of Mission Peak. I dropped my swag from Linz in order to fulfill Orient Express Quest requirement #6, and traded for some cool sig items in the well stocked cache. A BIG thanks! mjp303

Backside of Mission Peak

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I guess I'm still tired. Wrote a log for the wrong cache, and had to come back and change it. TFTC in a beautiful park! mjp303

Inca Gold: Stairway to the Sky

By: GeoWomyn_SF_CA Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Somehow I never logged this cache when we did Inca Gold over 2 years ago. Realizing this, I stopped by and signed the log on my way back from completing Maya Silver. TFTC, and for a couple of superb series! mjp303

Horse Heaven

By: Marky & Fizzy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

I can see how a horse would love this area. I thought it was pretty great too, and especially enjoyed hiking past the hillside spring. TFTC. mjp303

Spawning Ground

By: WalruZ Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

Of all the springs we saw on today's hike, this one was the most interesting. The crash when that tree came down must have been something amazing, but I suppose the water that provided life for so long was ultimately the tree's undoing. Thanks! mjp303

Man on a Mission

By: blscearce Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Once again, I was in the lead and not paying attention to the arrow. [:I] We ended up back-tracking about 350' horizontal...and what seemed like 100' vertical. It was nice to find an old cache like this, but it definitely needs a little TLC. Thanks, mjp303

No Right Turn

By: Lil Devil Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

No vertical challenge here. Busy watching the traffic from the East, I was suprised by a bicyclist from the West. No matter. I covered up just fine. FWIW, it was a 4-pointer to get going back where I came from. TFTC! mjp303

Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

By my reckoning there are three caches in the Mount Day quadrangle: GCRADY, GCKEHD, GCKEHA. All of them are a significant hike (...along the same trail, I think).

Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

winini has discovered a cache that falls exactly on a quadrangle boundary: If you choose to find GCXA0K, it can be used for either Novato or Petaluma River, but not both. If anyone finds another like this, the same principle will apply.

Evergreen Sikh Temple

By: RiterH Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Small

What an interesting spot. I noticed a man leaving the temple on foot. He was wearing the very distinctive chunni (sp?) and had a long uncut beard, but was wearing a suit and tie. Interesting contrasts! Thanks for showing me this spot. mjp303

Shadow of the Tower

By: cc Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Eventually I stumbled on to it. [;)] I'm not sure who all these people are you're talking about in the cache description, although several passers-by did look at me with raised eyebrows. TFTC! mjp303

The King And Queen Are Sleeping

By: airshadowshow Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

I guess I should read the cache pages closer 'cuz I ended up on the wrong side of the creek on my first attempt: Blasted autorouter! 75' away but no way to cross. Once I got on the correct side, I did see a potential crossing point about a 150' south. I dare anybody to try it! Thanks for the cache! mjp303

Before Time

By: CTomGeo Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

I showed up at about 10:50a and grabbed the cache with no trouble. Retreating to my car to sign the log, I was suddenly stranded by wave after wave of arriving cars...all adults. Amazing! Who knew the early movie was so popular? I didn't. TFTC. mjp303

By: bykenut Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Water Dog Lake #2

By: NavySparksandtheMrs Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Today I decided to take a quick little hike to this cache. It was a misty overcast morning, which made it wonderful to be in the canyon. Afterwords, I followed an overgrown trail down by the creek, which turned out to be quite an adventure! Those hillsides are steep, and with all the PO branches it was a bit like a minefield. Thanks for the fun! mjp303

The Original "Survivor"

By: UncleTom Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Wow, I'm the 4th of four visits today! A very fun puzzle, although at first the coordinates I produced were a reflection of the solution, which threw me for a loop. The final location was familiar, I'm sure I've been here before for several long archived traditional caches. Hopefully this puzzle will last; it's a busy place. I knew Sunday evening at dusk would be a relatively quiet time, and I was right. A quick find. TFTC! mjp303

Geocachic Park

By: Mannard & Ahdorabell & KinQue Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

It took me awhile to make my way through this multi: I needed a three visits and two phone consultations with a previous finder, but by the end I felt pretty darn good about it. There was a little hiccup, however. Approaching the final, I realized that I was going to be in plain view of about a dozen teenagers who were 'hanging out' (if you know the final location, you understand what I mean!) Fortunately for me, though, I didn't need to search for the cache because it was sitting on the ground in for anyone to notice. So, I just picked it up and walked off. The teenagers wouldn't leave, and I had to go, so I guess I'll be coming back for a fourth visit very soon. Oh, by the way, everything in the cache was safe and sound. Did the previous finders forget to put it back? Did it somehow move from it's hiding spot? Only the trees know. TFTC! mjp303

Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

I now have .txt files that contain the boundary coordinates for each quadrangle. With these files you can used the 'load from file' option when creating a polygon filter for each quad in GSAK. Then at least you won't have to type in all of the coordinates...like I did. A smarter mind than mine will figure out how to completely automate this task, but at least here's a start. Let me know if you want the .txt files. mjp303

By: BKT Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Vantage Point

By: BKip Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Mt. Tam was shrouded in fog, but the views were still great on this nice little hike. Great swag! TFTC! mjp303

Cloudview Cache

Thank goodnes for a GPSr that auto-routes! Just as you said, a quick find after arriving. Early on a Saturday there were no muggles to contend with, although a housekeeper sitting in a BMW was waiting to go to work...only in Sausalito! TFTC! mjp303

Firestone

I've been wanting to find this cache for quite some time, and today turned out to be the perfect opportunity. The clouds from last night's storm had cleared, and the views were crystal clear. I really enjoyed the hike to the cache, and got quite a chuckle when I realized how it was hidden. You've gotta love those old-time terrain / difficulty ratings, huh? Definitely one of my more memorable hunts! Thanks! mjp303

Well, it turns out that in actual fact I was seconds from a find yesterday when I sliced my finger. Today I needed encouragement from a fellow finder in order to continue along my previous line of thinking, since it's evident that the way I found it is not the way it was intended. Thanks for a very fun and imaginative cache, both from the perspective of the puzzle and the hide! [8D] mjp303

I was moments from a DNF, but then sliced my finger pretty good on an object very close the final cache location (...I know that for sure!), so this is an injury timeout rather than a DNF SMILIE. If you notice blood on things, it's mine. BTW, previous searchers have found it necessary to disassemble an object that is part of the cache, and it appears that the method of attachment is weakening. (I wonder why they would do that?!?). You might want to consider a stronger adhesive. Thanks for the fun! mjp303

Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge

By: mjp303 Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

If you want a .gpx file of all the caches within the challenge boundaries ([:O] ~6000 as of today!) or help using GSAK (...sorry, that's the only one I know how to use...) to filter pocket queries into lists of caches in the individual quadrangles, send me an email. As swag, the cache contains signature items from over 50 local cachers (...and one quite well known non-local [8D]), but I'm sure there's lots of items I didn't have. If you would like to contribute a sig item to the cache, contact me as well and we'll work something out. Thanks!

Urban Beach #2

FTF @ 8:10 am. You know you've been caching a long time when a new cache brings you back to a spot of a former, now archived cache. In the present case it was called something like 'David's decoys', and there were 4 or 5 fake caches with taunting messages like "Try again" or "Wrong!" in them. Just like today, the cache site was always busy with families, and it was tough to search uninterrupted. I think I went back 3 times before I finally found that old one. Fortunately today's find was a straightforward one, and I was concealed from view. Thanks for the deja vu! mjp303
