Going Coastal in 07'

By: GeoJakenfam Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. This was a quick stop after driving the scenic route from Orick to Weitchpec to Willow Creek to Arcata (no caches close to the route...but awesome scenery). TFTC. mjp303

White Deer Mountain

By: Ken24 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. A quick grab and go made a little more adventurous by the construction barricade: After leaving the cache, I opted to stay on the shoulder side and then had to traverse a slightly collapsed section of the road...no problem in the jeep though. TFTC. mjp303

Preserving the TB Hotel

By: TeamOrville Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. A quick exchange. TFTC. mjp303

Southbound Vista Point Give Us a Sign

By: Huntnlady Adopted by sweetj Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. There was a huge RV parked closeby, but I was able to squeeze the jeep in front to block their view. Fortunately the sign provided further cover. Nice view! TFTC. mjp303

Salmon Creek State Park

By: Huntnlady, adopted by crazycavelover Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. By this point it was getting really HOT. Thanks for the chance to stretch our legs. mjp303

"Flying Tree Cache"

By: Tigger 2 Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. This was a really educational cache. I had no idea! The boys enjoyed playing engineer and imagining that they were bringing the logs to the mill. Thanks! mjp303

Miyasis Dragon

By: Zack, Keith, Louise and Debbie Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Day five of our trip up North to camp and explore, and we're finally heading home. This was the last cache of the trip, and it turned out to be quite an adventure. You gotta love the mis-rated oldies with difficulty/terrain suprises: A steep side hill, loose rock, slippery dry grass, poison oak, plenty of inviting snake habitat, and two 7yo boys to keep an eye on. Nevertheless, it was an interesting area along the river and we were sorely tempted to cool off in the river, but time was getting late. TFTC. mjp303

Gold Bluffs Beach #2

By: xjrob Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Day four of our trip up North to camp and explore. We loved the beach and spent a long time playing in the sand and waves. TFTC. mjp303

Gold Bluffs Beach #1

By: xjrob Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Day four of our trip up north to camp and explore. This hike was a highlight of the trip. Simply amazing. TFTC. mjp303

No Spore Print

By: xjrob Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Day four of our trip up north to camp and explore. What an awesome spot. There was a really big bull elk along the path to the beach. A bunch of idiots decided it would be fun to walk towards him carrying sticks and knocking them together. The elk immediately stood up. They continued. The elk started swinging his antlers through the grass and tossing clumps around. They still continued. Finally the elk got fed up and charged them. He only pursued for about 50 feet, but that was enough to send them running all the way back to the parking lot. Potentially deadly, but still quite funny. TFTC. mjp303

Enjoy the view

By: Arse & Hemi Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Day three of our trip up north to camp and explore. Today it was the coast road. Unfortunately the fog had the view completely socked in, and the only evidence that we were close to the ocean was the very faint sound of the surf breaking way, way, way down below. By the time we made it to the WWII radar site, the fog was breaking up and we could appreciate the views. TFTC. mjp303

River on the Rampage

By: QuarterCrazy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Day three of our trip up north to camp and explore. Today it was the coast road loop. In a couple of locations along our path we had noticed the signs marking the Dec '64 high water mark. Scary and impressive. Thanks for marking this historic spot. mjp303

Ghost Town

By: Frontbar & Momma "G" Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. What a cool place! The kids ate blackberries, cherries, and apples. I was a bit unnerved by all the bear scat, but managed to keep my thoughts to myself. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Never Lost Again

By: Phobos+Demos Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. The fog was starting to stream in as we hunted around on the dunes. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Redwood Creek - Palm View

By: Joe and Ed* Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. Almost to Prairie Creek SP where we plan to spend the night. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

By: Joe and Ed* Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Small

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. We loved the old bridge, but loved the chance to drive around on the gravel along the river even more! Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Even Moa Dunes

By: VyCache Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. This was another out of the way spot that I had wanted to check out. It was a kind of lonely spot right at ground zero, but we could hear the ATVs racing around in the distance. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Beach Bum

By: tvcook1 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Day two of our trek up North to camp and explore. This was another out of the way spot that I had wanted to check out. Ted found a starfish up on the breakwater and we spent quite a while watching the fishermen catching crabs. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Big Critters With Antlers

By: NCFLYERS - The Double J's of Fortuna, CA Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Virtual

Day two of our trip up North to camp and explore. We never did see any elk at this spot, although we drove by many times during our stay. Fortunately, there were plenty of them in other places closeby. We loved the area! TFTC. mjp303

Ovalteam2

By: Ovalteam Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. We had lunch in town at the quickie-mart. Probably not the best choice, but, hey, it was the fuel to get us to the next cache. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

View of Blue Lakes

By: zeekcoins Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. It was quite hot and a dip in the lake looked mighty inviting. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

The Old Paradise Park

By: The Camping Crew Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. The kids appreciated a big box and enjoyed the trading. Now they have a few new doo-dads to help pass the time in the car. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Avant-"Guard"

By: Arse & Hemi adopted by Team Dromomania Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Other

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. It was hot and we were getting hungry, but I loved the hide. Of course the decoy got me! Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Banker's View of Fast Food

By: Team Dromomania Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. I loved the cache container! After enjoying the *intended* view and a trip to the facilities, we were on the road again. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Vet's Crossing

By: MartianRabbit Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. This was supposed to be a quick stop and go that had us scratching our heads for a while. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Laytonville's First Cache

By: Huntnlady Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Regular

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. I did the 23 jumping-jacks and the boys thought I was a bit crazy. They traded. I enjoyed the chance to stretch. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

101 Northbound Information

By: Huntnlady, adopted by sweetj Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

We were on our way up North to camp for the weekend and taking the scenic route. We were getting pretty anxious to reach the first night's camping spot in Humboldt Redwoods SP, and this map was just the ticket. Thanks for breaking up our trip! mjp303

Lobitos Lookout

By: wstefanc Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

Out for a pleasant group hike with a great bunch of cachers. How wrong I was when I assumed my own cache placement along this trail (...and I'm not talking about Pure Quality Bald Knob; I didn't place that one, just adopted it. [;)]...) was further out than anyone else would consider as a destination. Thanks for the trail's end challenge! mjp303

Mines Scout Camp

By: donvsop Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. Nicely hidden! I think several of us overlooked the spot before Shores Scout made the find. The gate was open, so I was tempted to drive up the road and check things out, but there were more caches to be found! Thanks. mjp303

Fred Gehri Bridge

By: bullit Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. That fellow with the hay truck was really moving! TFTC. mjp303

See Coe?

By: alpharomero.com Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. That dirt road on the other side of the gate was calling to me, but alas it was not to be. I did notice a no trespassing, "except for members" sign on a tree nearby, so perhaps we could have travelled the road for a price. TFTC. mjp303

Dry Creek View

By: Butano Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. He was yucking it up with bthomas in the lead and drove right by the cache. I brought them out of orbit with a quick call on the FRS radio. The cache seemed painfully exposed, but I suppose it really doesn't matter out here. Thanks! mjp303

Hairpin Turn

By: Butano Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. It feels like a thousand miles from the bay area. Fantastic! mjp303

Camo-Emerald

By: Tonton-Ca Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Hamcams

By: Team Nazgul Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our first stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. After doing a little research, I discovered a way to get a picture that is somewhat recognizable...in contrast to HamCam #2. [;)] Thanks for the challenge! mjp303

BLACK N BLUE

By: SARCRZY & BEAR N GRIN IT Difficulty: 4.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Other

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, and we were ready for a swim at this point. Whoops, I forgot my suit. TFTC. mjp303

Meeting of the Mines

By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. The owner came out and wanted to know if we were carpenters. He seemed disappointed when we told him we were only cachers: "That film can? Oh, yeah, I saw it in the bushes about a month ago." Alas, it was not to be.

Road of Mines, You make me ill

By: Kusakids and Dad Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. Shores Scout determined that his area was a lot less likely to be infested with snakes, so he ascended for the quick find while the rest of us stayed behind on the road. TFTC. mjp303

Out of my Mines

By: TeamAlamo Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. Yup, this is the second one of the day that he drove right by. Interesting little spot! mjp303

Mine The Gap

By: fizzymagic Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. I chose the wrong spot. Just a few feet away, bthomas came up with the cache. Thanks. mjp303

Fruit of the Earth

By: Fallen Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. 'Fruit of the earth'? Is that what it's called now? We got worried when we saw the tell-tale pieces of soiled TP scattered about on approach. Yup, some serious fertilzation going on in there. We moved the cache slightly so that future finders won't have to enter the 'drop zone'. Heh! mjp303

Joaquin's Watering Hole

By: fizzymagic Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. I did all of the math in my head, and MotorBug and Shores Scout were having trouble following me. Fortunately, things turned out just fine. I knew they would though, since bthomas was patiently waiting for us to fumble though. Interesting story! mjp303

Quarter Turn

By: fizzymagic Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Micro

Out with MotorBug to put a few ups and downs on his new Jeep, this was our next stop along an enjoyably long and winding road. Dry as a bone along the way to the cache this time of year, and every nook and cranny a potential snake hole. Thanks for the adrenaline rush! mjp303

Marissa's California Cache

By: PrincessMarissa Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Regular

This should have been an easy one, but just as I was returning to replace the cache, a car sputtered to a stop just feet from ground zero. I smiled and continued walking with the cache in my hand. Back at my car, I waited and watched...their car was quite dead, and soon they were on the phone for a lifeline. So, the cache will spend the night with me, and I'll replace it in the morning. Of all the dumb luck! TFTC. mjp303

Red Cross Ready

By: ottokar790 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Nicely done! The grab and replace were complicated by a lady who was intently picking apples on the nearby tree. I think she must have been curious about why I walked by...twice(!), but fortunately for me, the best apples were on the opposite side of the tree, and she was none the wiser. TFTC. mjp303

Let Them Shop

By: rosmo Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

With a little extra time to kill after work before picking up my daughter at SFO, this cache was a pleasant find. Thanks for pointing out the spot. The tide was quite high, just a few feet below the path I used on approach, which suprised me. TFTC. mjp303

Tennis N E One?

By: brown-eyed susan Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

TTF. I'm not sure if I solved it pre- or post-modification, but in either case, it worked out and the coordinates were spot on. The whole gang tagged along, and we enjoyed our walk along the edge of the bay. TFTC. mjp303

Ordinary Timber

By: brown-eyed susan Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A Sunday night caching stroll with the family. The container seemed to be in a pretty geo-logical spot to me, and I quickly palmed it as there were lots of people on the trail. We walked out towards the bay a bit and spent quite a while watching the sandpipers bed down on the shell beach for the night. On the way back, I dropped the cache off in its snug little hiding spot.
