Thanks for the quickie as I travelled down Hwy 49. mjp303

Well Rounded Cacher Challenge (Fizzy Challenge)

By: Ranger Fox Difficulty: 5.0 Terrain: 5.0 Container: Large

Thanks for a memorable adventure! Meeting the requirements of the WRC Challenge has been a big part of my geocaching goals since Kealia put the first one out in the San Francisco Bay Area where I live. On the way to finding Kealia's cache was a trip of a lifetime for the last few elusive squares and a FTF find on the Utah Fizzy challenge. Going hand in hand with the wonderful memories of visiting caches in incredible places (...with rare D/T combinations!) is a grateful appreciation for all the truely remarkable people I've shared this journey with. Preparing my list of qualifying caches was like a walk down memory lane. Mental snippets ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime flashed thorugh my head. Good and bad, high and low, frustrating and transcendent, I savor them all! Thanks for another opportunity to remember in a beautiful place that I never would have visited unless I was a geocacher.

H-T...We Miss You!

bald mnt challenge

By: thudoug Difficulty: 5.0 Terrain: 5.0 Container: Regular

I came from California (via a business trip to South Carolina) for the NC WRC cache just over the hill. Being so close, I couldn't miss picking it up! Thanks for bringing me to the top of Bald Mountain; the views were spectactular and I really enjoyed the hike. mjp303

Curly's Cache

By: Shepardsfind Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

I liked this area. It seemed like a trail that would have been interesting to explore further. Fun to find a large ammo can, too. TFTC! mjp303

JOE 2 SB I85 "Indian Joe's TB & Coin Lodge"

By: Harwell5 & Beemerdon Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Heading back to Greenville for my flight back to CA, this was the last find of the day. Thanks for the convenient placement! mjp303

Hotel, Motel... bug & coin INN

By: KLOMO Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Visiting from California, thanks for hiding a TB hotel along my path. Dropped a NL coin; took a LV benchmark coin. mjp303

Calling all Richfieldians!

By: JohnsRallyYellowSS Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

It was raining hard and nearly lunch time as I pulled up. I would have made the find and moved on quickly, but there was a fellow eating his lunch not 3 feet away from the cache. So I went inside and got my lunch. It was probably a good thing! I was pretty hungry! TFTC. mjp303

U R E sign the log

By: Oakie's Family Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Caching my way to the NC WRC final, I stopped along the way for this TB hotel. Great camouflage! I dropped a Compass Rose coin and took a travel bug. TFTC. mjp303

Cache Me

By: ABNDaddy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

It was raining. Need I say more? Well, as a matter of fact, yes I do! Rain makes this cache a PITA! Mud and water just don't go along with trying to stay clean and dry. I'll send you a bill! [;)] TFTC. mjp303

Wholly G'rails of Concord - Woodlawn

By: Shepardsfind Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This cache took me way too long. I've never seen that particular type of crevice...you learn something new all the time! TFTC. mjp303

"The Beginning"

Richfield Rail

By: YBIndoors (adopted by Bamafan323) Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

A quick find while caching along Hwy 49. The rain had started in earnest, so the park was completely deserted. I left the motor running and was in and out in about 2 minutes! TFTC. mjp303

101 Dalmatians # 82

By: Jean-Pierre Le Pelt Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I got a kick out of the sign next to the cache with a birth announcement: 'Welcome Macey Taylor Gordon 2-3-09' TFTC. mjp303

Park 'N' Grab #5

By: Squirrel Boy Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

The first of several FireFrog caches...they got more interesting later! Thanks for the quickie. mjp303

Frog's Trickery

By: Squirrel Boy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I struck up a conversation with the gentleman who lives in the trailer in front of the cache, figuring he might have something to do with it. He had no clue, but was friendly enough. I wandered around for a while, but eventually made the find. The cache container definitely needs TLC. Thanks. mjp303

FrogBot Speaks of the West

By: Squirrel Boy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I appreciated the parking invitation. The dog didn't approve, and kept up his yapping the whole time I was there. In the end it sounded more like he was lonely than anything else, but I decided not to try and make friends. I scratched my neck on a wicked vine with thorns on the way back to the car. Ouch! Thanks for the cache. mjp303

FrogBot Speaks of the North

By: Squirrel Boy Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I enjoyed the quick hike and the chance to stretch my legs. Kind of a desolate area though. I liked the cache container. Never seen anything quite like it. Thanks. mjp303

Cache Of Cars

By: Squirrel Boy Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Not chosen

I bushwhacked over from the previous cache, which was a bit of an adventure. After making the find, I discovered the easy way in. Oh! Didn't retrace my steps. TFTC. mjp303

The Rite Holly

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I needed batteries for the widget, so I made the stop. After taking care of business on the cache, I realized that someone had been sitting in a car just of the other side of where I had been hunting. Fortunately he was busily engaged texting and didn't really care about me. TFTC. mjp303

Marrowbone Trail

Palmetto Shade

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Just around the corner

Lowe Down

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I like Lowes better than Home Depot, but there aren't too many of them where I live. I found the cache under cover of darkness. TFTC! mjp303

The Pit

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The BBQ pit at the nearby restaurant would have held the most interest for me, but I am on a caching mission, and can't be distracted. TFTC! mjp303

Whoa! An ammo can. Great hiding place. Thanks. mjp303

Doggone

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

This cache really had me bamboozled. I actually gave up and went back to the car, and then returned to search again. Doh! There it is. TFTC (...and the frustration!) mjp303

The West Bank

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

Kinda creepy back there by the cache in the dark. I felt like someone was watching me, and, in fact, it appears that stoner muggles have found the cache and signed the log. I was happy to be moving on! mjp303

ROCK ON !

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

Lots of folks getting a bit of exercise inside. Outdoor activity suits me better! TFTC. mjp303

Chicken Nuggets Holiday

By: Basset Hounds Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Looks like a good restaurant, and I love Mexican food, but there are caches waiting so I moved on quickly. mjp303

See the Lighthouse?

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I saw the lighthouse, the cache, and the big dreams that this place once held. Considering the size of the parking lot, it must have been quite the draw. Just lonely now, though. TFTC. mjp303

Reading at the Roost

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Other

I felt a bit conspicuous casting about in the dark with my flashlight for this cache in front of all those library windows. It was before 9pm though, so I persisted. Thanks for a fun one, and the challenge of hunting it in the dark! mjp303

"R" is for READING

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I found the cache lying on the ground, but tried to hide it a bit better than I found it. It will definitely disappear when they get around to the repairs. TFTC. mjp303

The 4th Day of Christmas

By: Adpopted by The Scout Master from SCSG/USCGA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Not chosen

I ended up shoving the cache further into its hideyhole with my fat fingers, but eventually fished it out. TFTC. mjp303

Antique Holly

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

This was a fun one. I'm sure my flashlight casting about in the bushes was quite a distraction to passing motorists. I'm glad a policeman wasn't passing by! TFTC. mjp303

Spaghetti Junction

By: cbolling Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Micro

Took quite awhile in the dark. Thought about CITO, but figured it was hopeless. TFTC. mjp303

Don't Step On It

By: FASTFRANK & WANDA Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I've seen many different types of snakes while caching, but never a cottonmouth. That would definitely be cool...but at a safe distance! Of course, they don't live in California. It's probably too cold for snakes right now, so your cache camouflage will have to suffice! TFTC. mjp303

Conestee Cache

By: FASTFRANK & WANDA Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

This was a fascinating place to hike and explore. The wetlands were really interesting. Thanks for marking the trailhead. TFTC! mjp303

Deere John

By: The Scout Master Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Small

All of the security cameras guarding those expensive farm implements made me nervous, but I figured I wasn't the first to appear on their tapes so I just went about my business. TFTC. mjp303

Hog Slog

By: UncleSkeleton Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

I watched a fellow drive the motorcycles that were on display out front back into the store one by one. Then I ventured out into the dark to find the cache. The flash light definitely came in handy. Strange spot. TFTC. mjp303

Hanging Gardens of Greenville

By: UncleSkeleton Difficulty: 2.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

The Montara Dragon

By: rvehring (adopted by begneiss) Difficulty: 5.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Regular

Thanks for a truely 5-star challenge. This cache was exactly as advertised: a mental and physical effort that few caches can compare with. Over three visits, I hiked close to 30 miles in visiting locations all over Montara Mountain, discussed the interpretation of cache page clues endlessly, pondered the viability of projecting waypoints with greater accuracy than my GPSr was capable of, attempted to measure elevation accurately on a steep slope, searched for a clue smaller than my thumb nail, took a wrong turn and climbed a mountain bike trail (...a cliff, actually) called 9-1-1, brushed by lots of poison oak (no leaves yet!), located an expert to help with mathematical equations that were obscenely complex (Thanks Fizzy!), bought a new raincoat so that I could keep pressing forward with this cache in spite of the weather, and generally had the time of my life, in spite of many obstacles. It was clear to me pretty early on that I wasn't going to end up with anything but a smilie no mater what. The day of the 3rd and final hike started out with rain, but turned out to be absolutely beautiful weather. The views were fantastic! Many thanks to bthomas for his support and companionship on this trek every step of the way. It was a true pleasure to make the f ind with him and share the moment. There have been many of these moments with him in the past, and I am sure that they will continue in the future. Caches like Montara Dragon will provide the opportunity! Thanks for helping me explore a beautiful place! Thanks for the cache! mjp303

Bug drop

Wow, that's one steep single-track!!

By: airsax Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

CoFTF with bthomas on our way up. We met a mountain biker near the cache who said that he was going to come down 9-1-1 later in the day. We followed him up the next trail to the west (...I've forgotten the name). It wasn't quite as steep, but still a serious climb! TFTC. mjp303

Hidden Passage

By: ViaPac4 Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Regular

This cache was hidden in a cool little spot. I'm not sure why there is a trail there, the vegetation is so dense! With the recent rains, it was muddy and slick, but we made the find. TFTC. mjp303

By: LB & J Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Micro

Groundspeak at South Peak

By: begneiss Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 4.0 Container: Small

It was interesting to look into the watershed property from this side. On top of that the views were fantastic! After a somewhat arduous bushwhack, and a bit of scrambling about on very crumbly weathered granite, we nearly got blown off the top by the wind while grabbing the cache. Good Fun! Thanks for a little extra down and up climb after all that hiking to the top. mjp303

Bane of the Cache Potato

By: robotman Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.5 Container: Regular

I think this must be the original cache along the trail to the top of Montara Mountain. Thanks for placing it; I'm only sorry it took me so long to make a visit. The views were incredible: Montara, Princeton harbor, Pacifica, and the City. The weather cooperated for the most part, with only a few squalls passing through briefly. I really enjoyed the hike and the opportunity to get outside in nature on a lovely winter day. TFTC! mjp303
