Over the river & thru the woods

By: 5isenough Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 3.0 Container: Regular

Got all geared up and headed out today just to grab this one cache. Snowpants, gloves et al. Made some time to enjoy the surroundings instead of the usual running around grabbing as many caches as fit into my route. Really nice place to hang out. Even after the recent deep snow there were countless footprints matting down what must be the usual trails. Didn't see a single person, though, so I just sat down for a few quiet minutes in the snow enjoying the beauty. Great hide, too. Took the single GeoCoin, the other one was not there. Left footprints, but tried to cover up the site as best as possible. Ahhh... tftc!

It's nice and easy being last on a daily... just follow the trail! 9 for 9 "day-ofs"

Nice change of pace for this type of cache. TFTH!

HNY10-Outskirts

I appreciate the hint. Anything to make this kind of cache less time-consuming is always very welcome. TFTC!

(K)why On The River Bridge

By: Ramblin' Rumble Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

It's where I though it would be. :) Nice view, too.

The Troll of Plumbrook Preserve

By: Rock Dogz Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

I agree... caches like this are what makes this hobby so worth it. It was a real treat coming out to this trail, and then realizing all of the footprints in the snow following the trail were coyotes and rabbits. It was like a woodland highway through here. And the cache hide itself was in a very cool place I was glad I got to see.

Thanks for the great one!

CAD - January 7

By: Screechowl Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Not chosen

Hah! totally got schooled on this one, but luckily JNS showed up like a big-brother, tussled my hair and sent me off with a nickle for the soda fountain. LOL. Yeah, I would've probably given up in another 10 minutes if he hadn't've shown up. :)

CAD - January 6

By: Screechowl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Popped in for a grab. Someone threw it pretty far back, but I could just reach it. Put it back less far for people with shorter arms than I.

HNY10 Century Parking Not

I'm really enjoying when I find all of these hornet/wasp nests in the winter. Puts a smile on my face. :D Take that wasps!

Gunners Grub Series -- Pizza in the park-ing lot

By: door gunner Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Small

Looks like one of the elements, or humans have attacked this tree. There are a bunch of branches and a section of hollow trunk on the ground. I hope it stays around for awhile longer, but I get the feeling someone's got it slated for destruction... keep an eye on it.

HNY10 Passenger Parking Not

By: DarrylW4 & Firefly03 Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Nice quick one. Waited around here a few times in the cold, glad to hear rumors they're about to build a proper station.

HNY10-Giant Porcupine

By: srstuart Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.0 Container: Small

I really like the porcupine. Left a Playboy Travel Bug / Coin... still can't determine what it thinks it is. (coin)

Dunno why, but whenever I'm around these transformer boxes, they short-circuit my ability to cache hunt. It always takes me too long. Can't figure out why. Got the find, though!

Hanging around Walsh

By: srstuart Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

I'd heard of Walsh, but never knew where it was. Had a nice visit, while listening to a story of someone who had unknowingly met John Steinbeck as a child... a Mr. Tobin, who along with his father and uncle were mentioned in The Grapes of Wrath. So now this college and that anecdote are forever welded together in my mind.

Got here a minute before Infolady (Hey there!) and am able to check another CAD find on day of posting. 5 for 5 now, though these trips to Mound Road are starting to add up in fuel cost. D:

Gnarly, dude!

By: Rock Dogz Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Regular

Really cool tree. I threw a rat in there because I've had him too long. Seemed like an appropriate spot.

micro mayhem series #5

By: joenate Difficulty: 3.5 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Definitely could not be opened without a tool. I let it warm up in my hands for a few minutes thinking to thaw it if it were ice, but I think there's something wrong with the threading, perhaps. Or maybe it's just really stubborn ice.

micro mayhem series # 4

By: joenate Difficulty: 3.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Lovely cache. I was worried when I saw the axe chop on one of the living trees... thought someone really hated nuts! (HE REALLY HATES CANS! to quote Navin)

CAD - January 3

By: Screechowl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Grabbed the FTF, my first solo one. Was 1/2 of a mile from the GZ down Mound grabbing CAD #2 when the email came in. Another car showed up and hung in the parking lot while I looked, and then I passed what must be JNS' truck as I was heading out. Man that guy is lightning fast. I was surprised anyone could make it there that quickly. Anyway, TFTC! I've got all 3 so far!

CAD - January 2

By: Screechowl Difficulty: 1.0 Terrain: 1.0 Container: Micro

Got it on the 3rd of January, but technically that still counts for day of posting right? On a roll...

HNY10-Just another Evergreen

By: srstuart Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

HNY10-Zazzafrazz

By: ramblin rumble Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Quick little park and grab. Really cool container, what was that?

HNY10-Fireaway

By: ramblin rumble Difficulty: 1.5 Terrain: 1.5 Container: Micro

Was looking in places where I would have put it... after I stopped doing that, I found it. So, I'm guessing this is an area where the fire dept builds a house to burn down and practice?

I'm up for having a go at this... unless they're gonna be in pine trees. At just under 200 finds, I think I've stuck my face and knuckles into enough pine needles for one lifetime. Good luck on keeping up this sisyphean placement task. I'll see if I can muster finding them.

HNY10 ? You Don?t Bring Me Flowers Anymore

By: Team TopKat Difficulty: 2.0 Terrain: 2.5 Container: Small

Just happened to be at my Vet near here when my phone pinged off emails for about 100 new listings. Was out in shorts and without gloves and almost ready to give up when the calvary arrived. Nurse Nanna and her crew of Square Pegs in Round Holes showed up as a literal search party to canvas the area. Within minutes Allenite had found the hide and they let me be part of the FTF party, which makes it my first. I even got an Allenite pathtag out of the deal. Not too shabby.
